IMPRESSIVELY Lightweight, Easy to use, Great value.
I bought this vacuum primarily because it's lightweight, as it needs to me used at many different levels in our building (including taken up to areas (via rope) that are ladder access only) I had mediocre expectations for the CFM, brush and using it on some non-carpeted areas. I bought the HEPA filters for it because some of the dust produced in our industry is not the greatest to kick up. Overall I have been very impressed with the vacuum. CFM seems great, brush height is perfect, work very well on our short carpet (its like door mat carpet) and works really well on non-carpeted areas, which is a huge bonus. It is IMPRESSIVELY lightweight, not only for carrying around, but is easy on your arms/wrist even after vacuuming for a long time. It picks up dirt and debris very fast also. 90% is picked up in one pass, two passes is fine for most levels of dirt, so no complaints there. The long/heavy duty cord is also great. I am curious how well the motor will hold up in our environment, but everything on it seems easy to service in house if needed.

Cleans like it has a vendetta against dirt.
I have seven children. Seven. Most vacuums take one look at my house and immediately start updating their wills. Not this Oreck. This vacuum rolled in, surveyed the chaos, looked at the cracker crumbs, dog hair, mystery debris, LEGO dust, and whatever substance is currently fused to my area rug, and basically said, "Girl, no problem. I got you." This thing is the Nokia phone of vacuums. It's built like a brick and appears to be fueled entirely by spite and a personal vendetta against dirt. No fancy lights. No touchscreen. No app. No AI. No laser-guided navigation system. No flashing indicators constantly demanding emotional support. It doesn't need any of that. It knows who it is. And somehow, despite being built like it could survive the apocalypse, it's incredibly lightweight. I can carry it around the house without feeling like I'm training for a strongman competition. While other vacuums spend half their battery life thinking about cleaning, this one is already done and waiting by the door for another fight. It transitions from carpet to rugs so smoothly that I almost suspect witchcraft. It somehow knows when I've mentally accepted defeat against a mess and takes that personally. The suction is aggressive in the best it's-going-to-get-your-floors-clean-even-if-it-doesn't-reach-every-single-nook-and-cranny way. And no, it doesn't come with a hose. You have to accept that, make peace with it, and move on, because it still does a better job than basically every other vacuum out there. It also has a bumper guard on it, as to keep peace with the walls. Dirt doesn't get picked up, it gets evicted. And unlike every fancy vacuum I've owned, this one doesn't seem like it's one clogged Cheerio away from retirement. It feels like the kind of machine that will outlive me, my children, and possibly civilization itself. If you don't buy this vacuum, it's not because the vacuum has commitment issues. It's because you do.

I love this vacuum so much I bought another one.
I LOVE this vacuum so much I bought another one. I keep one upstairs and one goes back and forth between the main and lower level. I live in a big old house (well not old, but 25+ and hasnโt been updated. It gets dirty fast) and I am vacuuming nearly every day. I have central vac but not the motorized beater bar attachment for carpets. I literally got exhausted lugging my expensive canister vacuum all over the house and this one really does a better job on my old carpets in this big old pole barn. Pros: long cord - my upper level in particular is large/spread out 1200SF in almost a railroad type layout. I am mystified but if I plug this vacuum in exactly in the center of the hallway, I can get to each bedroom on the farthest end. With my other vacuum I had to plug in separately each bedroom and end of the hallway! Lightweight - helpful for stairs, lifting vacuum up on furniture for pet hair, etc. Large/inexpensive/easy to change vacuum bags - may not be important for some of you but if you live in a house full of kids and creatures this is key. Also, the bags are only $1ish each if you buy the 25 packs on Amazon, and changing them before full improves the machineโs performance and itโs more lightweight - so I would change often regardless. Heavy duty - you can tell why this machine is used for commercial applications. This is the exact vacuum you often see housekeepers with at hotels and itโs no wonder. The dang thing is practically indestructible. I say practically... I did have one into the repair shop once because my 7 year old vacuumed up a piece of playdoh which hardened around the fan or some such. Usually, anything you pickup that shouldnโt be in there, doesnโt make it in the hose past the beater bar. Suction - I am amazed by the amount of suction this cleaner generates for its size. Watch out, because if there is a Barbie doll a foot away, she is going in, head first. Low profile/flexibility/size- you can get under many chairs with this. Pretty good for an upright. Price - this is the bottom line here. I think this is a great product for the price. Cons: Looks-well, itโs ugly. Definitely looks commercial. If I forget to put it in the closet it look at it and cringe. Itโs even uglier in person than it is online. Haha. Design flaw - this is the only โrealโ con I can think of. At least one other reviewer had mentioned it and I can confirm it is true as both of my Orecks do this. The suction is not nearly as strong about 2-3โ from the edges. Naturally, the issue this creates is not getting as clean along the edges. You can get around this by changing your approach, but thatโs difficult to do in a hallway. The redeeming qualities of this machine are so many that this doesnโt prevent me from using it all the time, but it needs to be mentioned. Also, not sure if this is a pro or a con, depends on your perspective - but if youโve researched this far you probably know there are no attachments. For me, this is a good thing. I donโt want attachments on this machine as it would increase the weight, make it more cumbersome, and possibly reduce suction. I also dislike working with attachments that are attached to an upright or canister vac. For me, I use the attachments associated with my central vac or my mini shop vac. This is something I do every week or two as a deep clean for baseboards corners etc. I have my vacuum every day or two so I wouldnโt be doing much else if I was focusing on attachments, baseboards and corners. But, your application might be different and if thatโs the case, this machine might not be for you.

Good product
I've used Oreck products for many years and I appreciate using a vacuum that does the work but is not extra heavy. And that's what is unique about the Oreck vacuum cleaners weighing about 9 pounds. With this particular model the only thing I think it doesn't hold true is that it automatically switches from carpet to flooring (tile). My old vacuum had a switch from carpet to tile which is lower and it worked well on the transition. I don't think this one switches as it claims because I have a front doormat which catches onto the rollers and the one that I was using previously with the lower mode for tile/thinner carpeting ~ never did that. So I can't use this new Oreck vacuum cleaner on that thin floor mat as I did with the older model, which makes me leery on their claim. But all in all, I'll keep the vacuum because the price was outstanding, and it does a good job on vacuuming carpets as Oreck is well known for. A higher priced Oreck vacuum I may seek out with the switch I am used to with my older model.

Commercial Cleaning Business
I purchased the Oreck Commercial XL Vacuum Cleaner for my commercial cleaning business, and it has exceeded my expectations. Since I clean office buildings on a regular basis, I needed a vacuum that could handle daily use while being lightweight and dependable. This vacuum has been exactly that. One of the biggest advantages is how lightweight it is. Carrying it between offices and around large workspaces is easy, and it doesn't leave me feeling worn out after a long day. It has excellent suction power and does a great job picking up dust, dirt, and everyday debris from commercial carpets, leaving them looking clean and refreshed. I also appreciate how easy it is to maneuver around office furniture, desks, and tight spaces, which helps me work more efficiently. Even with frequent use, it has remained reliable and continues to perform like it did when I first purchased it. If you're looking for a durable, high-performing vacuum for commercial cleaning or even a large home, I highly recommend the Oreck Commercial XL. It's built for everyday use, saves time on the job, and has become an essential part of my cleaning equipment.

AWESOME VACUUM. *GREAT* for pet hair, don't listen to the people who say its not good for pet hair.
So I bought this vacuum cleaner as a replacement for a Shark Professional Lift Away canister vaccum. The shark had some issues, namely: 1. It had an attachment tube through which all the suction power at some point went. This tube was made of a material that kept cracking and we had to duct tape it. In the end it was more tape than tube and this led to a loss of suction. 2. I was absolutely SICK of emptying the canister and digging out pet hair and inhaling the dust and cleaning the filter etc. It was nasty. My wife and I made a deal for the housework. She would do the downstairs and I the upstairs. Since the upstairs is 100% frize carpet, the vacuum quickly became a point of contention for me. I did my research (A LOT OF IT) and came to Oreck. I didn't feel like shelling out 500+ dollars for one of the super top of the line home versions that are aesthetically pleasing and instead opted to pocket the cash and buy this workhorse for 150 bucks. And I am IMPRESSED. We have 3 dogs and a cat. The dogs are a Siberian Husky, a German Shepard, and a St. Bernard. Needless to say we a have a LOT of pet hair. Some reviewers have mentioned that they didn't think the oreck was effective for this. These people are lying to you. Our carpets are now amazingly clean. This thing sucks up debris and pet hair like nothing I've ever seen. Its a BEAST. And its lightweight. The bags hold a LOT and when its time to change them out you just pull em, toss em and replace em. They are cheap. I've been through 2 in a month and got a 25 pack for like 15 bucks. Get the scent tabs. You can really smell them at first, after the first couple of days you cant smell anything, which hopefully is the point. Some people have mentioned a burning rubber smell when they started using the vaccuum. I noticed this too, but I think it is just a burn in phenomenon as it quickly went away. The replacement and maintenance parts (belt/roller) are both on amazon for under 10 bucks. I expect to change the belts and rollers on occasion and have this vacuum for a decade. It doesn't have any attachments. it just cleans the carpets and floors superbly well. We've used it downstairs on wood and rugs and tile with no issues and it has pulled up loose pet hair and cat litter with no problems. Give it a go. Best vacuum I've ever owned. See pictures for pet hair effectiveness.

Oreck Commercial XL Commercial Upright Vacuum Cleaner, XL2100RHS
My old Oreck had worked fine for over 25 years. It was still working when I needed the electrical cord replaced. Had to take it to new place 45 minutes away. Of course one week later they told me over the phone they found all kinds of things wrong with it--bearing about to go, a housing cracked, brush something, a loud noise on startup....There was no loud noise on startup....and it had been working, but it was getting pretty old. I did some research and decided even though a lot of my friends like their Dysons, I do not have room in my condo to store a Dyson. I don't have pets and I do need something lightweight. I decided to stay with my Oreck as I loved such features as: 1) the head drops straight down and with an inexpensive plastic cable tie looped through the handle I hang it in the tiny space next to the hot water heater in the little closet; 2) it is lightweight and easy on my back; 3) it can vacuum under furniture; 4) I can go from carpeting to kitchen floor and I don't need two separate machines; 5) has the self-sealing dustbag, vs emptying a cup of dust. I could not believe the new models no longer have headlights which I had found helpful. However, on the plus side I found that my new Oreck has an even lower profile motor head and now I can easily vacuum under my kitchen cabinets right up to the baseboards where crumbs used to accumulate. So I was told in researching, that the original Oreck company that had advertised so aggressively in the '90s, had run into some financial problems and was sold to another U.S. based owner. Don't quote me as I don't want to spread misinformation, but it seems the models that were most like the originals-- were now called Oreck Commercial Upright Vacuums and are available on Amazon. There is a small range of prices on Amazon from about $156.00 (although it temporarily has gone down in price) to just over $300.00. Then I checked the Oreck website and saw what was available if you go to the Oreck stores that are still open. The new Orecks are elegant looking and much more expensive than the commercial Oreck vacs on amazon. Some of them still have headlights. However they don't have all the old features of the original Orecks such as weighing only 8 pounds and the release on the handle so you can vacuum under the furniture. After much debate I decided to go with the Oreck Commercial XL2100RHS, that was most like my old beloved XL. However there were more amazon reviewers that voted for the other Oreck Commercial style (U2000R1 line) and the majority had good things to say about that model also. That Oreck Commercial line has a 40 foot cord vs the 35 foot cord on my XL. It would have been helpful for me to have the extra 5 feet of cord, but the new cord is much heavier duty than the old and actually adds some weight to the vac. Being commercial heavy cord wears better and it now attaches with a pigtail so it is easier to replace the cord. It has a three prong plug. The helping hand attachment on the (U2000R1) looked good, especially if you vacuum stairs, but it is not available on the XL2100RHS model. Shipping was superfast. But I kept looking at the big box and delaying opening it--it couldn't be as easy to put together as amazoners said. Finally I faced the task and there was a brand new clean vac in the box. I had ordered 25 bags because I wanted to be able to use it when it came, but it was shipped with an Oreck new bag inside ready to turn on and use. Whomever packed it had even put a wrapped single Oreck scent tab halfway sticking out of the zipper bag so you'd see it when you opened it. Opening the box was easy and I was surprised that it came with a small paper manual covering the easy assembly and use and maintenance. Oreck has a pocket on the outside of the zipper bag and it is a good place to keep the Manual, a few extra bags and your receipt. There is also a tiny square pocket inside the zipper bag where you can slip the recommended scent tab. Personally, I prefer to break a new tab up and drop it inside the new disposable dust bag as I change bags-- you can still enjoy the pleasant scent and this way you don't get the inside of your zipper bag sticky. The scent seems to disperse better this way. That was another detail I was grateful for--there was some confusion over the docking of the disposable bags when I read about the different models on amazon. I was happy to see what I consider to be the docking mechanism (not positive)--the way you attach the dust bag inside to the suction pipe with the cardboard that self seals as you change it--that system is still the same in the Oreck. After I use my new Oreck a few more times and change the dust bag I will update this review. But for now I am thrilled with the way this model performed--much easier to vacuum my plush (but not thick plush +) wall to wall carpeting and it really refreshed and pulled the plush nap up-it didn't look all matted down. I loved how the Oreck went from my low level Orientals, to the plush, to my kitchen vinyl floor. Now there was a slightly funny almost electrical smell as I was vacuuming the first time. I had not thrown the scent tab in the bag and also I think maybe the motor lubricants were just starting to work their way through the motor on start up? But I vacuumed the entire condo and the smell seemed to get better, not worse. ASSEMBLY: I am not handy and I am less handy as I am getting older. But this was actually pretty easy to do. I don't think Oreck could have made it any easier unless they included a screwdriver and silicon spray. Easy open box. PIECE ONE: Vacuum motor and zipper bag and lower half the handle. PIECE TWO: the top half of the handle including the bright electric cord all rolled up (and heavy). Remove the protective small cardboard tube over the two screws near the top of the metal handle of PIECE ONE . Carefully use a Philips screwdriver to unscrew the two black screws in the metal handle in PIECE ONE You don't want to put weird pressure on the screws, or turn them at a weird angle and bend them. As you remove the two screws the white plastic disposable piece comes out and the important metal piece that reinforces and secures your handle comes off. That piece is flat at the top and curved at the bottom. Now I found it easier to release the heavy electrical cord and let it fall to the floor as I carefully lined up the two halves of the handle. Be sure you keep the on /off switch to the front of the vacuum. It was okay to get the PIECE TWO into PIECE ONE, but tricky to carefully maneuver them down tightly together. They fit together so far and stopped but the screw holes weren't aligned and I could see the top part needed to go down further. The main thing is not to twist and bend anything as you push these down together. Possibly you could use a little oil or silicon spray as mine did not easily slide together. But really not as hard as I am describing--probably pretty easy for those who are handy. It didn't take long for me to see I had the pieces going the right way and the top just had to go down further and it did. Then the holes were perfectly aligned to carefully put the screws in. I keep saying carefully as some amazon reviewers complain about the handle coming apart as they are vacuuming--uugh--not what you want. So if you get this little part done right and do NOT bend the screws by not having the handle pushed all the way in but forcing the screws and thereby bending them-- then especially with the metal reinforcement piece that goes over them--your handle should be in great shape, and even though all you did was put in two easy screws and didn't even put the dust bag in -- you will feel like you built the whole machine! I don't know why they don't tell you this part in the Manual, but after your handle is done and secure, you will notice a thin black plastic clip for the electric wire next to where you just secured the handle. I recommend using the vaccuum a little and deciding exactly how you want you electric cord clipped--I found that I needed to have the cord a bit more controlled (but not pulled tight) from the bottom motor part to the clip and leave it a little looser from the clip to the handle. The blue bag that was installed inside my new XLCommercial 2100RHS was "9 PACK REORDER NO. PK80009" and "25 PACK REORDER NO. PK800025". Finally, so you can wind the cord around the two hooks, you many need to gently rotate the top blue hook to the upward position. So far, so good. Will update as needed.

This vacuum sucks... Up dirt like nobody's business
I bought this vacuum 13 months ago now and I figured it's time for a short review. I'll start with the pros: 1) this thing is lightweight, about as much as a gallon of milk. My previous vacuum was a cheapo (by cheap I mean about the same price as this) dirt devil and it easily weighed 20 pounds. 2) the vacuum is easy to work on if you ever have to. You can have it apart in 10 or 15 minutes with nothing more than a #2 phillips, swapping the motor shouldn't be more than a 20 minute job but judging by the size of the thing it should last a while, the carbon brushes are also huge so I don't expect to have to shell out the $75 to replace those any time this decade. 3) it's powerful, the aforementioned beefy motor sucks up everything just fine, from stale cereal my 1 year old hid behind the couch for later to my wife's forgotten hair ties to every single cord I forget to get out of the way before I start vacuuming. I expect the belt would give out before the motor would if she ever jams up. I see folks talking about not being able to pick up stuff against the walls but if you go in front ways instead of sideways it'll suck it up good. 4) swapping the bags is easy, just hold on each side of the hole on the stiff cardboard part and push straight toward the port. 5) it's cheap! You don't get a lot of features but it's a vacuum for crying out loud! You get a lot of suck for the dollar. Cons: 1) No attachments but you should know that already. It's a vacuum and that's it. 2) loud as hell, but it isn't like you have to listen to it all day every day (unless you do, then get some earplugs) 3) those belts are a pain to swap but you only gotta do it once or twice a year, just swapped my first one today after 13 months of use. Be prepared to manhandle your vacuum to get the brush reseated once the belt is on it. In conclusion, you get what you pay for, Oreck compromises on features to give you a good vacuum for the price.

Wished for better
I had a high expectation when buying this vacuum due to the positive reviews. But I was a bit disappointed because this vacuum doesnโt work well on all carpets and very loud noise. So be mindful of that when youโre ready to get one in shaa Allaah.

Love it.

Awesome Vaccuum- reviewed after approx 2.5 years
I purchased this vaccuum approximately 2.5 years ago. It is used daily in a house with 2 large dogs that shed profusely and constantly track in sand in the winter. I have a 3,000 sq ft house with every flooring type. regular carpet, shag carpet, indoor/outdoor carpet, hardwood, concrete, tile, linoleum. Absolutely excellent performance on hard floors- most other uprights I've ever tried on hard floors shoot gravel etc around. This one rules. I use it in every room. This vacuum does it all, and it's lightweight to carry up the stairs. Bagged style is so convenient. Do not let the bag get full and support the bottom of it when removing. As you probably know, there are no attachments to this vacuum, therefore, if you want to be able to vacuum high areas like curtains etc, you will need something else. I actually pick the whole machine up and run it over my couch. We bought this because of ease of use. My old cannister had a lot of features but was a pain in the ass to use and lug around. This one is a breeze. Couple tips for you, especially for large carpeted areas. 1. Because it is really lightweight, there is no massive motor that does all the work for you. This means there is a bit of an adjustment and it may feel hard to push at first. The trick is to line your pushing elbow up with your hip and don't overextend your arm. Walk forward 1-2 steps, then back. Don't extend your arm and push it way out far ahead of yourself. 2. If the time comes that you DO suddenly think it feels hard to push, like it's taking undue effort- it needs a belt change. We have used this daily for 2 years before changing the belt for the first time. Because it's easy to use and works on every surface in my home, it gets used a LOT. Way better than a heavy "does everything" machine that you dread using.

Good construction-durable/light weight for arthritic hands/good power/long cord
I purchased my first Oreck approx. 15 years ago along with a free gift of a hand vacuum which is still in use. Last month I finally had to replace my much loved machine with its holed bag (which I had stitched) but, after years of hard use, the steel stem broke so.....I shopped locally and bought an Electrolux which is also an excellent vacuum - except that it was too heavy for me (a senior with arthritic hands), made one heck of a racket and had to be adjusted. After three uses I ordered my second Oreck (at half the price of the Electrolux) and gave thanks upon its blessed arrival only three days later. The Electrolux is up for sale and I am happy to have an old friend back in service. The long cord is labour saving; the refill bags are easy to install; the machine is light, easy to push and it cleans well. Love my Oreck!
