Comprehensive Presentation on 2007 ACCESS
This book is valuable to the beginnner and the expert developer. If you're a beginner, it presents ACCESS 2007 in a step-by-step manner so that you can quickly be using the software. If you've used previous versions of ACCESS, this book identifies the differences (some are improvements, some are still waiting to be "characterized" in my mind < grin >) between the previous versions and this new version; as a developer, this was very useful for me to quickly learn of what's new and how it's new.Lots of sample databases...and code...and tips/tricks... and a PDF version of the book with extra chapters on the accompanying CD.The style is similar to those in John's previous books, so you'll like this one if you've read the earlier ones. Definitely worth the money...the first time you need to learn "how do I do this?", it'll pay for itself in the time it would take you to learn "by trial and error".

Great Reference Guide!
I love all of the Inside Out Reference Manuals and this one is just has helpful to me in my collection. It gives great information especially when learning how to use the VBA. Of course, you can't have just one reference guide but, this one will be my go to first. It was also nice to spend just a few dollars on and get a great looking copy free of highlighting as well. This manual does assume that you have prior knowledge of Access but, don't let that stop you from obtaining this manual if you don't use it often. You also find many ways to use it outside of an office situation for home and for study.

Excellent Access Book (even though the CD is glitchy)
I had the 2003 version of this text and wore it out. It was the one Access book I read the most, and I had several. I bought this version when my department upgraded to Access 2007 (this year!). I still think it is the best all around Access book on the market. If you don't know already, then I'll tell you. Access 2007 is a completely different animal from 2003. Not only does it look different and act different, it has features and capabilities that 2003 never dreamed of. I'm not an Access pro, but I'm not a rank beginner either. I started with chapter one and I'm working my way through the entire book. I'm surprised at how much I've learned already. The book is particularly useful on the many occasions when I yank it off the shelf to answer one of those "How in the heck do I do [x]?" questions. Not all books can perform equally well as a comprehensive textbook and a handy reference guide. This one does. However, the one glaring weakness of this text is the accompanying CD. Some of the sample databases on the CD trigger errors in the VBA code when I try to open them. Apparently, I don't know enough VBA to figure out what's wrong, so they're basically useless. Other sample databases can't be used at all unless you first install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express, then figure out how to configure it, and the sample databases, so that the sample databases will open. Good luck with that, I still haven't managed it. In other words, the entire CD is basically a no-go. Without the examples, it's often difficult to follow along with explanations in the text. If you don't have a copy of a database that you can experiment with, I suggest you create one as you go. Save extra copies of it just in case you accidentally kill one. With a better CD I would have rated this text 5 stars instead of 3.One more thing. This book will teach you how to use a piece of database software. It is not intended to be a textbook on database design. If you have no familiarity with relational databases and how to properly design them, I doubt that this or any other Access book will help you very much. This is one area in which a grounding in the fundamentals is essential. It will save you a ton of frustration and dozens of hours of wasted effort. Trust me, as one who learned the hard way.

Excellent Answer to "Why a Database?"
Huge book, exhaustive treatment of all of the Access capabilities. Makes a great reference since it includes all the example database applications on a CD from which they can be loaded and run. Also includes the pdf version of the entire book so can be downloaded to your Kindle or other PC. For those who insist that Excel is good enough for their database needs, this is required reading. It will change your mind. One star off since there's way too much Visual Basic implementation in the examples, would have preferred that they stuck to macro execution examples. Had VB been a prereq, might have eased the pain.Bottom line, you should have this in your Access development library. When supplemented by the online Access 'help', might be the only information you need.

Very helpful, well organized text
I opened to Queries, immediately I was able to use what I read in a short time to my work. It's well organized, you can go directly to the chapter of the subject you need to know about. If you don't create tables or databases but just need how to query, you can go directly to that. It's probably the most comprehensive book on Access 2007 out there. I highly recommend.

I got a lot more than I expected!
This book was thorough, VERY THOROUGH! It teaches you everything from using the Access templates to using HTML to post a database on the internet or the office intranet. It's over 1200 pages and the CD has even more material. The book itself can be read on the CD in PDF form. If you want to get your IT or MOUS certification, this is your book!If you're looking for just an overview than check out Access 2007 for Dummies.

Excellent book to go along with your Access school book
As I go through this book, I realized that my school book is just an overview of Access. 2007 Inside Out will prepare you to be an advance user of Access as well as learn some SQL. Since, I have started reading 2007 Inside Out, I have yet to fail any of my Access 2007 test. And, if you are considering a career in Database, you will need this book to jump start your career.

MS Access 2007 - It's all here!
"Microsoft Office Access 2007 Inside Out" is just that - everything you could ever need or want to know about this powerful tool. Extremely well-written and chock-full of tips and samples, this book has been, and will continue to be, an invaluable resource in broading my skills and knowledge about MS Access 2007. This is the MS Access 2007 encyclopedia if ever there was one!

The Gold Standard
Quite simply this book is outstanding and is a must for any serious Access developer. Do not be put off by its length (1500 pages or so), this is due to the inclusion of copious screenshots -which are invaluable- and a full ebook is also included so you do not have to lug this around all the time! The authors do go through the basics which may frustrate some but I would add that never more has learning to walk before you can run applied. Best of all, the authors adopt a friendly and highly approachable style- they clearly love what they do and this shines throughout the book. The inclusion not only of the right way to do things but also the wrong way to do things was very useful indeed- this especially helped me to understand some of the traps I have fallen into in the past. Tempted to buy the 2010 version recently released. Very highly recommended indeed.

Powerful features
Microsoft's office 2007 was a ground-breaker and even though its later incarnations offered extra bells and whistles the fundamentals remain the same. A very good book which provides a valuable reference to those designing Databases which will work on any computer as long as its running Windows that is.

Lots of content but not well structured
The book provides lots of content, more than 1400 pages but it's hard to find around. For example.I was looking first for some hints for a good database design and how to set up relationships. The book didn't answer the question directly, only by analyzing the examples myself and try and error, I could find the answer. So was the book helpful? no, not at all.Next, I was looking to set up a subform for my data, again, I rather searched the web for hints than looking through the book..Next, I was trying to automate things with Macros and VBA. The book describes in very detail some specific examples but leaves out some important general design aspects.Really detailed described are program options, so like where to find icons in the ribbon menu or how to use a window/function. But that is the most obvious and I do not need help on thatConclusion:Good for beginners with low experience on Windows / Office products or people who want to closely follow the examples and adjust them to their needs. Not so good for more experienced Windows/office users which now start looking into a n advanced database design.I'm going to sell it again. Not forth to keep on my bookshelf.

Kindle version difficult to navigate
I bought the Kindle version of this book so that I could use it on my iPad as a reference, without having to carry a heavy book everywhere. This is the first time I have bought a large reference book in the Kindle version. The search facilities are very slow, and it is nothing like the same experience in use as you would have with the physical book. There is no Index at the "back" to lookup & link to a keyword. Until this is done, it makes the day-to-day use of the book quite laborious. Stay with the paperback version for the time being.

Well laid out book
As a complete Access novice I did a simple online course, upon completion I started my first database. I didn't get very far at all before I'd met the bounds of my new knowledge. This book is great to learn Access from scratch, following the examples gives you the practical help you need. Hopefully by the end of the book (or the relevant bits atleast) I'll be able to get my rather complex database to do everything I need.My only criticism is, it could do with some simple easy step reminder pages to do common tasks, as it is the information is spread over whole chapters and it's difficult to cherry pick the precise bit of info on how to perfrm some tasks. Also you may need to reinforce your bookcase it's a hefty book.
