Simplicity Women's Victorian Dress Costume Sewing Pattern, Sizes 6-12

The dress turned out great. The instructions were mostly easy to follow, but you must read them carefully--in the illustrations it isn't always easy to decipher what is going on. I'm an intermediate seamstress who's already sewn a bustle skirt and bodice using Truly Victorian patterns, so this one was a cinch. I made some flat ruffle trim out of fabric instead of buying ready-made trim, to save money.

Great pattern and a good price

I bought this pattern for a historical costuming project, fully planning to modify it. I made view B, which has a shape overall very typical of 1780s Paris and was exactly what I wanted. What would be the stomacher is just an attached contrast panel to the mantua, and the bodice of the mantua closes in the back with a zipper. Good for a costume, and if you know how to alter it can be used for historical purposes as well. The petticoats have slashes in the sides where belted pockets or pannier pockets can be worn, which is pretty neat. The pattern is easy to follow overall but there are little things that don't make sense, such as the pleating on the skirt of the mantua. It's not anything dire, not anything you can't fix by eyeballing. The end result is very pretty and true to size, which was a BIG plus.

I made the dress and panniers. I still have to make the under skirt. This is a lovely pattern. I've been watching the Hulu show Harlots and I feel this dress really looks as good as one of their costumes. Planning on wearing it to Carnavale in Venice in February. I modified the pattern slightly since the zipper down the back bothered me. The zipper is not historically accurate. I didn't make a huge effort but I thought I could at least get rid of the zipper. The pattern was pretty hard to follow in places. Especially the panniers.

Tres heureuse de mon achat le seul hic c est que je nai recut que les instruction en anglais dans la pochette a patron avec le patron bien évidement donc c est pour cela que je n'ai mit que 3 étoiles Pourtant dans la description il est est bien noter instruction en trois langue dont le français

Estan bien no lo e utilizado todavía pero se ven bien..el unico problema es k estan escritos en ingles y eso para segun kien es un problema
