Amazon Web Services For Dummies

A really helpful beginner guide. It breaks AWS down in a way that actually makes sense, without feeling overwhelming.

This was my first purchase of dummies series. I was totally surprised why people around me started teasing me! Then they explained how they publish stupid books about almost everything. Though I got the reasons of their humiliations, I don't necessarily agree. IMO, every book has their targeted readers. There is no reason laugh at someone!!!! However, even if you agree on such jokes/humiliations, this books is totally above of that. This is a great book for the beginners. I wasn't complete beginner to AWS but it still helped me know about a few things that I missed earlier. I just skipped the things I already knew.

This is a good overview of AWS for people who want to understand what AWS offers -- semi-techies like me. Once it explains the multiple offerings, the book goes into depth about to work with the application programming interface -- the API that one encounters when using AWS. That part is more for techies than for "dummies". The one disappointment is that it doesn't discuss specific third party applications that can be used by people who prefer not to build their own applications to run on AWS, and who don't want to go to an outside developer. For example, there must be someone somewhere who offers a canned application for people who want to back up data such as photos or music to S3 or to Glacier. But the only 3rd party software mentioned is Backupify, which handles data you store in the cloud, but mot data on your on-premise servers. (If there isn't a commercially available backup app that does what services like Carbonite do, there's a business opportunity for anyone reading this review,)

Its honestly a really good book - at first I wasn't really sold on it - it felt like it was missing details....but then about 1/3 of the way through the book - I realized that was getting a really education on the material. I was even cross referencing some of the material with the reference documentation on the AWS website and I realized that I was receiving the same material in a much cleaner / clearer fashion. I should say that this book will not make you an expert - but I think its a great introduction to the material

This book provides a great overview of AWS and its ever-expanding cloud computing services. In first section, the author provides useful background on cloud computing definitions and concepts, and explains what AWS offers and how those offers are enabled. For a business reader (ie. not technical), part I of the book helps in understanding what is different about AWS from other cloud providers. Parts II & III dive into major AWS services, with instruction and exercises on how to use them. Part IV is a useful commentary on the benefits of cloud computing and AWS in particular. The examples, screen shots and text are straight forward and presented in a way that enables the reader to quickly learn and understand. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking a comprehensive overview of Amazon Web Services.

I found this book to be very informative! As many books from this series, the book provides in easy to read manner, initial information and reference about public cloud computing with focus on AWS and in particularly on the cloud services like ec2, vpc, rds, s3 and etc... Recommended for anyone exploring Amazon Web Series (AWS)

I purchased and started reading this, but then realized it was last updated in 2013. Six years is an eternity in this field. It seems like this was a good book when it was released, but I'd rather invest my time into something more up to date. Returned it.

I had no previous experience with AWS and the information available on amazon was not easy to follow for me since I didn't had any reference of the different components and their functions and I couldn't find a reference inside AWS documentation that would exemplefy this in general. This book helped me to understand the big picture of the services available in AWS and the implication of configuration options of the most commonly used services. I'm sure it will be useful as a reference for a little while, which is basically the function of this type of "basic" guides.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who has no knowledge of AWS as it covers basics of all the services that Amazon provides. Each chapter has good descriptions along with screenshots of GUI of AWS dashboards which makes easy to understand.

An excellent introduction to Amazon Web Services. It gave me the confidence to pursue a web services based IT Strategy.

I was hoping for a hands-on approach, with some worked out real world examples of how to use all amazon services together but ended up disappointed. I think the best way to learn AWS is to read through some online tutorial examples provided (for free!) by amazon itself. This book reads like a +300p advertisement trying to convince readers how great AWS actually is.

I found this book extremely useful as an intro to AWS and liked the fact that it doesn't just scratch the surface, but actually goes deeper into the technology. I still use it regularly as a reference.
