Perfect for 'Meatless Mondays' or anyone looking to leave meat behind
This was purchased as a gift for a friend who has chosen to become vegetarian. She loves the ease of her crockpot because of her job, but didn't have the time to try out different meat replacements in her family's favorite crockpot meals. This cookbook has everything from dips to desserts and the recipes use a great variety of meat substitutes/replacements instead of tofu all the time, every time. So far she's been very pleased with the success of the meals she's made from recipes in this cookbook in the few weeks that she's had it. The recipes are easy to follow and none of them require funky hard to find ingredients. She is able to prep multiple meals on Sunday, bag up the ingredients for each, then on the right day put them in the crockpot that morning with whatever liquid is required, turn it on, and head for work. The rave reviews of the meals from her kids (picky eaters both) has me seriously considering buying this cookbook for my own use.

So far, no good
To me, the point of a slow cooker is that I can spend a few minutes prepping some ingredients, drop them in, and have the machine do the work while I do other things. I had to search through quite a few recipes to find one that came close to meeting these guidelines. Most of the recipes i read involved excessive preparation and bizarre extra steps. I am not going to spend my lunch break removing half of a soup, pureeing it in a blender, and mixing it back into the slow cooker! Even the recipe I finally chose required that I saute some ingredients before adding them. And the soup itself was horrible. The only real flavor in it came from the black pepper - a full teaspoon for six servings. Stupidly, I followed the recipe exactly. Not only was the soup inedible; the excessive black pepper irritated my throat. It might not be fair to judge a cookbook based on one recipe (overlooking the fact that someone supposedly tested the recipe and decided it was good enough to include) - but I don't want to end up throwing away more food just for the sake of giving this book another chance.

slow cooker cookbook
I just got this book a few days ago. So far have made 2 of the recipes. The first one " " mock chicken and rice " was ok, but the rice came out very gummy, and stuck together. The second one I tried today was " mock meatball stew". It came out very good! There are many more i want to try. If i do another with rice, i may cook separate and add the last hour of cooking time like another book says to to.Additional noteI have now made several more recipes from this cookbook. Tonight I did the brown rice and vegetables. It again the rice came out gummy, like eating oatmeal. The taste was good, but i wont make again. The fahjta Chile was good.

It is excellent, and I have liked everything I have made ...
I admit that I bought a Crock-Pot mostly because it had my college team's logo on it (Go Dawgs!) and wasn't too expensive; I just hoped that I would find a couple of vegetarian recipes online that could be made in it. Then I found this book! It is excellent, and I have liked everything I have made (most recently the barbecue tofu). The chana masala, in particular, gets made frequently. My favorite recipe is the faux-chicken chili, but it requires a lot of work so I don't make it as often. I would advise dialing back the amount of salt called for in some recipes; the authors seem to really like salt! This is the best and most-used cookbook I own, and I recommend it highly.

Great Book
I love the variety in this book and the recipes I have tried so far. I didn't want to have to buy a huge grocery list of items just to make some new recipes, so I was really happy that there are a lot in this book that I already have most of the items in my pantry, or are common groceries I regularly purchase. I have a smaller slow cooker, and all the recipes seem to be for larger ones. I just cut down the ingredients, but I wish it gave alternate cooking times and temps for smaller units. Overall, I think it was a great purchase and I look forward to trying more of the recipes.

Loads of Easy Recipes
The book is packed with recipes. Everything from appetizers to dessert. I can't wait to try them. I'm not very good in the kitchen, so I like the fact that the recipes don't require tons of ingredients. Planning to make the Fajita Chili for a work party next week.On the negative side, the book almost appears used. You can tell that someone removed a price tag from the back as it is still sticky in one spot. Also, on several pages there are black track marks. Almost like a bad printer printed them. You can still see the recipes so that's all that really matters, but I wouldn't exactly expect this quality for a new book.

Easy recipes and good variety
Cookbook has a lot of varied recipes, most don't call for many ingredients and are ingredients typically on hand or easy to find. I've only made one rice dish so far which came out mushy in the crock pot so not sure if this was a fluke or not. If so, the recipes for the rice dishes can easily be made stove top or in a rice cooker. It is the recipes themselves that are worth the price of the book. I recommend the book for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. A lot of good recipes with mix of seasonings to satisfy most anyone.

maybe it's just me.....
But I've only found about 8 recipes in this book that are of interest, and it took me until pg-12_ until I found something. This is because there was nothing in the previous 6 chapters (appetizers & snacks, soups, stews, chili, sauces) that is of interest to myself and my spouse. In saying that, that doesn't mean it is a bad book, in fact it has a lot of good recipes in, just not all of them are what we're looking for. Also, if your wanting pictures, then this book will not suite you in that department, as there isn't any at all...

the everything vegetarian slow cooker
I chose top rating because it is an excellent book with lots of facts and tips other than just recipes. It is a good handy size and better than a lot of other books because it is well arranged and also gives the food serving in calories, fat, sugar etc. I would thoroughly recommend it. My only quibble, and it is very slight, is that some of the names in the recipes were American, e.g.seitan.

quite good
I bought this book because I don't want to eat too much meat. But since using the slow cooker I find myself cooking more and more meat-based meals (much to the joy of my hubby). So when I saw this book on Amazon I was quite excited. But unfortunately my expectations were not entirely met. There are a lot of delicious recipes in this book but some are similar to each other, except for one ingredient (e.g. sage instead of thyme, carrot instead of celeriac). It surely is a great help for someone not experienced in cooking but with a little knowledge how to season your meals and the combinations of veg/herb/legumes, etc. it might be a little bit too basic.Overall a nice book which I will use from time to time.

Not what I wanted
I actually returned this book. I'm sure the recipes are very nice but on receiving it I saw that everything is based on meat-replacement foods, such as TVP, Tofu, etc.As a vegetarian who doesn't like meat, I have no desire for meat replacement - I never wanted it in the first place. I decided it was too much hassle to try and change every single recipe to just veg, beans & pulses so I returned the book and bought something more suited to my wants.

not enough pictures
While there are a few good recipes, a cookbook with absolutely no pictures isn't much fun! Also some of the ingredients are hard to find if living in a small town.
