The popularity of the low carb/paleo/Primal way of eating has exploded, as people discover an appealing and sustainable alternative to the restrictive diets and flawed conventional wisdom that lead to burnout and failed weight loss efforts. The dream of eating satisfying meals-even on a budget-controlling weight and feeling great has now become a reality. As you build momentum for Primal eating, you'll find that you won't even miss the bland, boring, low-fat foods that previously were the central focus of your diet. How can you argue with a menu that includes Roasted Leg of Lamb with Herbs and Garlic, Salmon Chowder with Coconut Milk, Tomatoes Stuffed with Ground Bison and Eggs, and Baked Chocolate Custard? This isn't a crash course diet. These and the other Primal recipes provide the foundation for a lifetime of delicious, healthy eating, high energy and protection from common health problems that arise from eating the SAD (Standard American Diet).

BEST COOKBOOK EVER!
This is the best cookbook ever! There is an introduction paragraph to each receipe, simple list of ingredients, and clear, concise directions on how to mix the ingredients. Even more spectacular are the bright, bold, colorful photographs of each receipe, showing first, the ingredients, then mixing the ingredients, and finally the end product. The added benefit of this cookbook is the healthy receipes that help you lose weight and make eating exciting. Each receipe is full of the foods your body will love. It's like each receipe is a work of art, and you are the artist putting all the yummy ingredients together for a tasty, colorful, finished dish that you just love to eat!I have just lost 22 pounds on the Paleo, or caveman diet, which is not really a diet, but a lifestyle of eating fruits, vegtables, lean meats and fish, and nuts. The life style cuts out the grains, dairy products, beans, gluten, sugar, salt, and in the process helps your body loose the excess weight it does not need. My blood pressure and cholesterol, have all gone down. This cookbook helps me to eat this new lifestyle. I am eating, and loosing my weight at the same time!I have recommended this book to all my friends, and those who have bought it, all have had the same results. We all are eating healthy food, using the wonderful receips in this book, and enjoying every minute.Just a side note, I made the delicious Peach Clafouti on page 250, and used too small a pie dish and spilt some of the liquid on the pages of the book. The pages are covered in something that makes it possible to spill something on the page, and wipe it off, without messing up the pages! How great is that!My wife, Maryellen, is on a mission to cook every receipe in the book, just like the lady in the movie about Julia Child and her cookbook. In fact, my wife has Julia Child's cookbook, and likes this cookbook even better! Julia cooked with lots of butter and heavy calories, and fat in her receipes. There are great cooking tips in Julia Child's cookbook, but this cookbook is filled with healthier, tasty receipes, with photos that make you just want to cook up all the receipes!I am going to buy a copy of this cookbook for all my family and friends for Christmas gifts it is so fantastic. I also appreciate the quickness that Amazon mailed me my book. Amazon has the best prices, and best customer service of all. That just wants me to keep coming back, and especially with cookbooks that are as great as this one. Thanks Amazon! Maryellen and Larry Lehigh

Best cookbook,paleo/primal or not, that I've ever bought!
Every recipe I've tried has been simple and delicious!!! This is the best cookbook I've ever bought. The photos are nice, and the directions are very simple to follow. You'll enjoy this if you like ethnic foods, it has a few fun recipes and the coconut curry and Moroccan chicken are great! Good pot roasts too. The pancakes were not so great, but that's just the sacrifice you make for trying to make SAD foods into healthy ones. : )My husband has lost 25 lbs since we've been eating this diet, and I've lost 10 in the past two months since beginning it. The biggest difference I've noticed is how much better I feel. No more chronic stomach aches, or feeling bloated and sleepy after meals, and now I've got tons of energy throughout the day! Get the The Primal Blueprint: Reprogram your genes for effortless weight loss, vibrant health, and boundless energy to go with this. It has a fitness element that really makes a difference. The standard Paleo approach is more specifically diet oriented.I like this book better than the new The Paleo Diet Cookbook: More than 150 recipes for Paleo Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, Snacks, and Beveragesbecause it is hardback, and has great photos. The Paleo one has more, but I'd get this first.

A great basic intro to Primal/Paleo variety!
Been a fan of Mark's Daily Apple website for a couple of months; I like the reader-shared recipes there, so hoped this cookbook would be more of the same.Came away with mixed feelings....while there ARE some new things I had never thought to try (new spice uses, flavor combos, etc.), a lot of it echoes common sense for anyone who is familiar with basic cooking techniques and has been eating this way for any amount of time. This is a great intro for anyone afraid to make the leap, for whatever reason, into the Primal world in terms of diet (and I hesitate to use that term, because it's more of a lifestyle than a "diet") and fears that it would consist of bland meat & raw veggies. There are some pretty sophisticated (but not complicated to duplicate) flavor combos here, and you'll do better if you live in a area with at least access to ametropolitan grocery choice (wheat-free tamari, unsweetened coconut milk, dried seaweed) but much of the ingredients ARE readily available.I've lost over 70#s by limiting my diet to the choices advocated in this book (didn't realize it was a "diet" at the time), have tons of energy and advocate the primallifestyle (mainly diet, but I like the walk a lot, lift heavy objects-low aerobic/interval training- physical mission aspects as well).Vast improvement over the other "low-carb" cookbook choices out there ( I would rather NOT fill my diet with unpronouncible ingredients, thank you!) but not "OMG-I can't WAIT to try this recipe!" excitement.

tablespoon & teaspoon vs. Tablespoon & teaspoon
This book, and eating style are excellent. I've been eating this way, without recipes for 1 month and lost 15 lbs and feel great, not hungry or grouchy at all. I highly recommend these books by Sisson, especially the cook books. Read the paperback book first to understand what you are doing. People will come to you and ask what I'm doing to lose weight, because the weight loss is noticeable. If you've read the paperback, you have the answers to all their curious-interested questions, and sometimes condemning-ignorant questions, too. Referring to the "Standard American Diet" as SAD usually gets a laugh. If you are the type of person who doesn't care about they "why" just the "how" then you can get away with the cookbooks & some additional creativity on your part & maybe supplement with an internet search for specific item recipes. But be ready for curious people who knew you before asking you after how you are getting into shape. My one complaint about this book is that the print in the cookbook can cause some miserable COOKing and Food Prep FAILS...if you are not paying close attention. In a list of ingredients, these two words - tablespoon and teaspoon look so similar, usually, but the typefaces of these words in these two books, make the tablespoon and teaspoon EXTRA SIMILAR. The typeface does not use a Capital T for Tablespoon. It is very easy to mistakenly add too much or not enough of a particular ingredient. I speak from experience with this mistake, and I am a great reader & good recipe follower. It is the typeface & lack of Capital T, for Tablespoon, that I normally rely on in every other cook book or recipe I own or use. My solution - I used a little pen to put capital "T" on all the tablespoons, turning them into Tablespoon. This way it looks more like we were taught in school & every other recipe on the planet:tablespoonteaspoonteaspoontablespoontablespoonvs.TablespoonteaspoonteaspoonTablespoonTablespoonIf you have good eyesight and never make this error, then the cookbooks by Sisson are without fail - yum yum yum recipes. Go for it. Highly recommend. If you do have a tendency to be in a kitchen with less than ideal writing, have to look at recipes from farther away that you'd read a book, or are just glancing back and forth with the recipe - then mark the Tablespoons. Else you will have some funky tasting and cooking stuff sometimes. Both of his cookbooks have this tablespoon-teaspoon issue.

Gourmet Primal
Being new to the "primal" way of eating, I ordered the Primal Blueprint as well as the accompanying cookbook (shown here). For me, learning to eat this way (which I started 28 days ago) was a huge departure from what I was used to and as a result this book proved to be a TREMENDOUS resource in making delicious combinations of food that followed the Paleolithic principles of our ancestors. Each recipe my family has tried has been restaurant quality fare with beautiful pictures to help/inspire you along the way. After eating this way for less than a week, I started dropping body fat, my seasonal allergies (which I've been forced to medicate for 15 years) have disappeared and I haven't used meds once.As an aside, my wife (who is not yet fully following the Primal Blueprint) and I invited 5 of our friends over for a dinner than consisted of a primal blueprint appetizer, main course and dessert (coconut milk ice cream, which was spectacular) and didn't even tell them the meal was a "diet" or "primal", etc. They LOVED it. They thought it was so good, that my brother-in-law is reading the books and I've never seen him read a book in my life. This book is great, but the lifestyle is life changing. I picked up the two books (here on Amazon) just hoping to get my abs cut out a little and I've been fortunate enough to find something that has been truly incredible.

My favorite healthy-eating cookbook
I bought this cookbook shortly after switching to a healthier diet of veggies, fruit, and high quality meat and fish. It's by far my favorite cookbook. I've tried probably 1/4 of the recipes so far, and loved all but one of them (the only one that I wasn't enthusiastic about was simply because I don't particularly like the spices involved...nothing wrong with the recipe though, and I ate all of it anyway.)Highlights for me:Bison chili (I've made it with beef several times)Slow cooker Italian pot roastEasy slow-cooked chicken and broth (I make this weekly...the broth makes me realize I'd never tasted proper chicken broth before.)Braised cabbage.Baked Chocolate Custard.I read some other reviews that criticized the number of photos. I love that aspect...the photos are so inspiring, and the food really comes out looking like that! On the other hand, it is a little irritating if you have to keep switching back and forth between two pages though--my book is getting quite a beating from that as I drip ingredients all over it! Would be nice if the ingredients list could be repeated on the second page.I do agree with other reviews that the lack of an index is an oversight. I'll be at the front of the line to buy any sequel, and hopefully that one will include an ingredient-based index.

primal blueprint cookbook.
sure taste is great in this book. offers quite a few. there's the 2 stars. and 2 stars for the fact that it works for some people. I suppose i've read too many other diet books saying some of the stuff in this book just isn't healthy based on several several several studies. I felt some were gag-worthy at the fat amount in some meats. But those are more personal things. I'm by no means a paleo expert. But another major thing is that MANY recipes call for butter. when the front says "dairy free". I'm not sure how that exactly works. and no, they aren't optional. Some yes give an optional coconut milk for a heavy cream. But no, most call for butter. several call for heavy cream. etc. I had to giggle at the picture of the heavy cream bottle with a cow on it even. Seriously? I just can't take this as a leading book for this diet if it does that. But hey, if it works for you that's great.

LOVE the photos, solid recipes
Honestly, the only thing I don't like about this cookbook is its lack of index. It sometimes takes me a little longer to find what I'm searching for, but it still doesn't keep me from recommending the book. Every recipe I've made has been a success; the bison chili is one of our family's favorites and honestly the best chili I've made, grain-free/paleo or not.I'm a huge fan of Mark Sisson and think in the paleo sphere he's got the most accessible approach and most encouraging attitude. This cookbook is visually appealing (I hate tomes without photos of the recipes), and the dishes are simple and easy to make. If you follow a primal lifestyle, I do think this is a must-have addition to your cookbook shelf.

A great resource.
This recipe book makes eating paleo very easy to start up. Lots of great looking pictures and the ingredients were easy to find at most stores.

Brilliant book worth every penny!
I attend a gym in Manchester called 'Primal Fitness' they recommended this book for good meals and snacks to avoid rice, pasta, potatoes, flour, wheat, gluten, bread etc. I was not sure how much use the book would be...so bought it. I am really pleased I did the photos are great with easy to follow and measure recipies (a cup of this...a teaspoon of that). The best are the pumpkin muffins, crackers and butter nut bars (healthy protein bars). It is a America based book so you have to hunt around a bit or some of the bits (Coconut flour, Almond meal etc.) but its all well worth it. It has opened a new world of healthy but nice foods I do not crave the usually 'rubbish' I used to crave for. By the way the diet works take it from me...hard exercise and this diet is the business

Good eats!
This is a great cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow, and they're pretty simple. I "stole" my first recipe from a website, and I lost 2 pounds the day I ate the resulting "soup". I bought this book, and the Quick and Easy Cookbook, too. I don't follow the Primal Blueprint diet strictly, but in the 2 months since I started eating mostly this way, I've lost 16 pounds. I've tried to lose weight for years, with no good results until I found this cookbook. I don't snack anymore, and I don't get cravings. This is a great book to get you started on a life changing journey.

Un livre à dévorer
Vu les photos, c'est à dévorer.Après, il n'y a pas grand chose à dire, beaucoup de recettes, même pour les végétariens. Les mesures sont évidemment en anglais, mais facilement compréhensible.
