Fantastic book. For beginners and beyond too. Clear information. I would love if this book would include more pictures of ideas for planted tanks so that we can try copying and creating beautiful tanks. But all in all, it's a great book.

With the ease and availability of the internet it almost seems pointless to purchase purely informational books. However, this is an awesome and well formatted source for reference and guidance on starting or maintaining a planted tank. It is laid out very well with detailed illustrations and beautiful pictures alongside the science behind how a planted tank works. Everything in the book is explained clearly and concisely in ways that are simple to understand. There are many example aquariums to illustrate different conditions one might find themselves starting an aquarium in based on extrinsic factors such as water quality or livestock. This book is an excellent reference to have for anyone interested in fish keeping.

This book is well written and thoughtfully organized. But it's outdated and doesn't include a lot of today's popular plant species, such as monte carlo. Also, the lighting section doesn't even talk about LED lighting because it wasn't even widely available at the time of publishing.

This book is great for starting a planted tank because it shows you step-by-step pictures for the most basic information on aquatic plants. It lays out with pictures how to layer the substrate, how to physically plant the plants, what plants look like when they are unhealthy as well as what to change to get them healthy again, and how to place heating elements and correct lighting for a planted tank. Not only does it do all that, but then it has pages on specific plants so you can get information about each type of plant and what those specific plants need to thrive and which fish do well with which types of plants. Very basic, easy to understand book with plenty of quality, easy to understand information.

I loved this book! It has very in-depth information. I've always had problems with algae in my planted aquarium and this book explains several reasons why this occurs and how to prevent it. It explains, in detail, nutrient requirements, lighting options, ways that fish and invertebrates interact with plants, and which plants are best for beginners. It explains complicated information with clear diagrams. Finally, there is a great list of plants with photos and info. The only negative thing I can say is that this book is probably not the best for someone who only wants one or two plants in their aquarium and is looking for a simple introduction. This book isn't very simple, but it does offer clear explanations of many topics relating to growing plants in your aquarium.

After looking at other aquarium plant books, this one definitely stands out. It is better organized and easier to refer to than other books. When I want to look up a specific plant, all I have to do is flip towards the back of the book, look at the large and colorful plant photos and the succinct, yet complete description on its care and requirements. The book also discusses important topics like substrates, fertilizers, lighting, plant diseases, appropriate fish etc....The author even presents different layouts of tanks for those needing ideas for designs and types of live planted tank (cold water plants, warm water plants, tanks represented by region (Asia, South America etc...). On the whole, this book an excellent resource.

There is a ton of great information in this book and even more importantly lots of great pictures that make identifying plants really easy. It's my go-to book for just about everything. Pros: - Lots of pictures - Great information on water chemistry, lighting, fish, and plants Cons: - Some of the information in the book is a little outdated, or more importantly there have been some advancements in substrate and lighting it doesn't discuss. - Doesn't discuss GH and KH much at all with regards to plants. I would have liked to have seen ranges accompanying each plant description.

I definitely recommend getting this book. The illustrations are beautiful and the information intelligent and engaging. Some other books read like a textbook, this book is simply a joy to read. Well done to the author!

Adorei a obra. Tem muito detalhe e informação importante de cada planta. O linguajar utilizado é acessível e há um capricho e qualidade nas imagens, gráficos e infográficos de fazer inveja a muito livro por aí.

This book is not a delight to an advanced aquarists as claimed. The statements in description are misleading. I don’t normally post reviews, but this book has annoyed me enough to circle back to my order. Beginners may find this interesting, but the “encyclopaedia” fails to go deep enough into topics for anyone who has passed the beginner phase. This is a beginner book and only touches the surface of the hobby. Do not recommend buying it if you are experienced.

El libro en general es bueno, tiene muchísima información en cuanto a los perfiles de las plantas. Lo que no me agradó es que algunas cosas no se hayan actualizado como el tema de la iluminación. Tengo la versión 2003 y la versión 2023 dice exactamente lo mismo, no hubo una actualización a pesar de todo el avance tecnológico que ha habido a lo largo de 20 años, el libro sigue hablando de la iluminación de hace décadas (fluorescentes, halógenos, etc) y sigue mencionado medidas de luz que son poco útiles como lúmenes o luxes. Esperaba algo más actual como que se incluyera la iluminación LED y que se explicaran los conceptos de PAR/PPFD. Algo que tampoco me gustó fue que me llegó en mal estado, la contraportada tenía una rasgada horrible y algunas hojas del final del libro tenían algunos cortes. En fin, le doy 3 estrellas porque en general te puede servir como una guía, pero para mí las actualizaciones son importantes y si no las tiene entonces creo que no hay justificación para adquirir la versión 2023, con la 2003 es suficiente.
