FixiC – Adhesive Patches for G6 – 25 Pack Waterproof Adhesive Patches

I’ve tried several different companies and styles of overpatches and these are my favorite. They are clear and virtually invisible. They also have no tac on the outer layer so they don’t pick up fuzz or color from dark clothing. The cut out fits perfectly over my G7 10day. I have very dry skin so I aggressively exfoliate and then air dry thoroughly before adhering. I have only experienced slight lifting on the very outer edge on the last 2 days of wear. I wear my Dexcom G7 10 day on the upper slope of my breast (completely invisible to people even when I swim) and the seam of my bra is where it eventually peels slightly on the edge. It has never come close to compromising the sensor. It actually gives me a nice edge to grip when pulling the old sensor off. I can’t speak to whether these would last for 15 day sensors. I have stopped using the over patch provided by Dexcom. It’s a visibility and texture thing for me. I’m reordering and this time I’m ordering the “New and Improved” version. I hope I like them as well.

They stick even in the shower

These are fairly easy to apply now that my husband has been using them a few months, but we had to waste a few to figure out a few tricks. The instruction card would be easier to follow if it had pictures that show exactly which paper tab to remove first (HINT: the large middle one). They are very thin and flexible with a cut-out that is the EXACT size of the sensor housing so there is no room for error. If the adhesive catches on the side it is dang near impossible to get it to the bottom where it needs to be. It can be gently pushed into place with a fingernail after removing the plastic top layer. The cut-out could stand to be a little bigger (a few thousandths). With daily showers and 5 days a week at the gym they stay on the full 10 days with little to no peeling. There is a little black ring of residue around the edge after a few days.

I wanted to test the endurance of this adhesive patch so I did not swab the area of insertion with alcohol and I took baths with oils and everything. The patch didn't even curl, there was no peeling or anything. I am so excited to NOT have to call Dexcom about my sensor coming off early. It adhered throughout the session. It is super thin and flexible. The only problems; the weird way to put it on and the slightly weird and painful way to take it off (less than medical tape, more than sim patches). It wasn't too bad taking it off. I had to go slower than normal because it is do thin it is hard to get a grip unless you peel an edge off (like you are a jar and it is a nutritional fact). Overall I love it. I'm sticking with this brand. A note: if it is too painful, curling the edge slightly and spraying the area between the removed part and your skin with something like Eaze Off (a adhesive bandage and tape remover or anti-adhesive) and slowly peeling in between spraying does help remove the adhesive patch with less pain.

Seriously sticky. I had wanted something that would hold down my much prettier (and more expensive) patch and this did amazing. It didn't budge at all.... which was both a good thing and bad. It was HARD to get off. Very very sticky and pulled on my skin pretty hard in order to get it off. There was a small amount of gray fuzziness that was around the edge of it by the end of the 10 days, but nothing more or less than I would have expected from anything else. I will say, it is NOT waterproof. Water does get in between the device and the edge of the plastic, so when you shower or swim the water will get under it and make the fabric part of the device wet. It takes a while to dry, but it does eventually dry. Update…. These are SERIOUSLY LONG LASTING. I went on a vacation recently and had to do a sensor restart rather than doing a new sensor so the tape had to last 20 days instead of 10. I did prep my skin with skin tac (which is my norm) and it held on for the 20 days and probably could have even gone longer. The edges did get pretty gross but it was just short fuzz and I’m sure some sweat and skin cells, but it kept the dexcom on for 20 days minimum which was amazing (video is at day 15 with 12 of those days being in and out of the pool, at Disney/universal, and all over cali in 100+ temps).

I tried these because they were half the price of some of the ones I was using. The problem is the adhesive is weaker. It started peeling up very quickly compared to the others. Eventually, it was halfway off after 5 days. These would probably be fine if you didn't sleep on your sides or shower a whole lot. I put my Dexcom on my arm so it's typically being brushed against as I'm sleeping. Not really a deal breaker for the patches with stronger adhesive. I'm glad I tried it, but I'll have to go back to the more expensive versions just so it stays on longer.

The patches are great! I have actually ordered them before this time and I love them. The do tend to fray along the edges by the end of my sensors life cycle, however, that just makes it easier to get the patches with the sensor off when it’s time to change the sensor. I also love the color options. All in all these are great patches and I’ve already recommended them to some of my family that have CGMs!

As a new G7 glucose monitor user everything was a learning experience. The overpatch that comes with each sensor gives no helpful advice as to how to successfully put it on without destroying it. One slight slip and it becomes a small gummy pile stuck to whatever offending finger touched it inappropriately. You only get one chance to get it right and they don’t send you an extra one. After my first experience, I watched a YouTube video. How helpful. They show you one one carefully applying it to someone’s arm. Of course they’re using 2 hands for this flawless application. Now most diabetics are applying this themselves and trying to aim it over the monitor which is in the back of the arm. They are therefore doing this with the aid of a mirror and they only get to use ONE HAND! If I had 3 arms, I’d have benefit of being able to use the other 2 hands to apply this patch. So I figured our right away that I’d be needing more overpatches. So after much consideration, I selected these. They’re actually slightly easier to apply than the ones that come with the kit. They stick fine, but I apply a waterproof parch over the whole thing when showering. So I can’t attest to how they’d hold up to showering. However, they stay on for the required 10 days, they don’t irritate the skin (and I have VERY sensitive skin). The edges do ravel a bit from the daily sticking on and peeling off of the waterproof film. But it doesn’t seem to affect the stability of the patch. They’re also reasonable enough that when I accidentally screw one up and it has to be thrown out, it’s not a catastrophe. Seriously though, these things are made to be applied to the opposite back of the arm, using one hand. Can’t they come up with something easier? I’d suggest a stiffer backing so it wouldn’t fold in on itself and then peeling off the stiff backing after successful application to the arm. But this style is easier to apply than the one that comes from the manufacturer, so I’m not docking stars. The colors are pretty ugly, but I don’t usually wear sleeveless tops in order to show off my medical device. So I won’t dock stars for that either.

Couldn't be happier with these overpatches. Definitely no more sensors starting to peel off before the 10 days are up. I've never had any adhesion problems, at all. If anything they adhere a little too well. I'm a slightly hairy guy, and find that it's actually best to shave under where the patch is going. Otherwise, be warned, you are getting a waxing where the overpatch is. The feeling of them is like they are not there. It's a very thin and flexible fabric. Looks: it looks like an overpatch! Sort of like the waterproof bandaid look, just thinner and more flexible. It doesn't totally disappear, but sensors are visible anyways, so it really doesn't bother me. Application tips: You peel off the paper side first. Remove the middle section only, apply the patch and best you can push it around the sensor. Then remove the backing from each of the ends. This will make applying much easier. Removal: Get a corner up, and then rip hard. Much better done fast. It's not that bad, even when you are getting a free waxing. :-)
