Timex Weekender 38mm Quartz Watch

The Timex weekender is one of the iconic modern classics from Timex, along with the easy reader and expedition models. It’s a simple, no nonsense, tried and tested watch that’s been around for years. Unlike many of the strange sounding brand names of similar price on Amazon, the design is original to Timex and been around for decades. I own some much more expensive Swiss made watches that are very good, but take themselves far too seriously. This is a fun watch that Timex actively encourage you to customise with different canvas slip through nato style straps. It’s called the weekender and it will suit most average people’s weekend activities. It’s a great size for the average wrist and would work well as a unisex watch to share with your partner. What I particularly enjoy is the utter simplicity of the watch, not minimalist contrived simplicity but genuine simplicity. I can’t imagine that there was a moody black and white advertising campaign when this watch was released, extolling how they have removed all unnecessary frills leaving only the essence of a watch, in fact there was likely no advertising campaign at all! It’s made of basic materials, chrome plated brass case, uncoated mineral crystal, fully printed dial, no lume (you don’t need it, the back light is way better). Oh and it ticks really loud! It’s far from the best watch you can get, but it’s all the watch you actually need and this is the whole point of it. I love that it’s time only too, so you don’t even have to set the date every few months. It is the antithesis of luxury and this is precisely why I like it.

I've had many Timex watches since I was young, as they have always proven to be reliable, hard wearing and have excellent battery life. And I expect this watch to also live up to this reputation. Yes, the mechanism is noisy - but that's what Timex are known for. So I just put it in a drawer at night. This is wrongly titled a 'women's watch', as at 38mm it fits my man arms just fine. Yes, there is a larger version of the Weekender, but I particularly like the deeper watch face design (it's flat on the larger model). The only thing about this particular version that I do not like is the leather strap (very thin leather and I don't like the colour). So I will swap that out at some point. And perhaps the flat chrome hands on a black face does sometimes need a few twists of the arm to read the time (you can't see them if they reflect something dark).

Kept good time for three weeks, then started gaining time rapidly. Now unusable for intended use. I would like my money back.

Timex have very good watches in this price range. Like the simple style of this watch, and it's a clear and easy to read face. This watch replaces an old Timex that had some extreme wear and tear, but otherwise was still ticking. Time for a new one though.

Great watch keeps perfect time value for money recommended buy

By far this is the loudest wristwatch I ever encountered. It reminds me of those old wall clocks. If you are ok with the noise, it is not a bad choice.

So Timex watches, not sure what people’s perception are of the brand. My first watch was a Timex so seeing a modern classic updated was a winner for me. It’s comfortable to wear, beautiful leather slip strap with high quality chrome hardware. Timex Indigo night light is brilliant. If you want a smart classic watch buy.

The watch is good albeit slightly in the weighty side fir the adequate but fairly flimsy strap whose layers started to come apart within the first week.
