Manual of Indulgences

This is a must have
I bought this book to read more about indulgences. What I found was amazing! I decided to gain indulgences all throughout the day and give them to Mary. This has dramatically improved my ability to remain in a state of grace because I am getting indulgences instead of letting my mind run toward sin. Every time I think about going toward sin, I try to gain indulgences first and it elevated the temptation. Very good resource and you are furthering the kingdom!

I now know so much more! Who knew? A must read for serious Catholics.
Firstly, let me say if you don't understand what the concept of indulgences is then let me first recommend a small book to you called "A Modern Guide To Indulgences" by Edward Peters. That will explain to you what indulgences are, why you should make them a part of your spirituality, and what exactly they do (they remit temporal punishment, in whole or in part depending, due to forgiven sin either on the part of the member of the Church Militant earning the indulgence or the suffering souls in Purgatory by way of suffrage.)I loved this book because it gave a list of all indulged works and prayers and there was a translation of all the prayers and norms in English. I was so surprised to find out that many of the prayers I say every day are indulged and I was wasting the opportunity to earn them because one must form the intention of earning the indulgence before the work or prayer is performed. What a loss. Now I know better though and (Lord willing) there is still time to help the poor souls (and myself).I was talking to my neighbor today and we were discussing my grandmother's recently being confirmed and my sponsoring her. No where in her RCIA class was indulgences even discussed. My neighbor, who like my grandmother is in her 80's, was shocked to hear this, as she said earning indulgences for the suffering souls and one's self was once stressed so highly in the Church. It seems this was one of those things lost in the confusion of the so-called "spirit of Vatican II". No where in Vatican II were indulgences tossed aside or Church dogmas changed. It was the people who caught the "spirit" and not the letter of what the documents said that screwed up everything for a time, although it looks like we're on the road to recovery now. The Church needs now more than ever for the laity to rediscover the traditional Catholic teachings and spirituality of our Church and this book published by the U.S. Catholic Bishops is a big step in the right direction.Buy this book. You will not be disappointed.

Your way to Heaven, Indulgences
INDULGENCES are done to make your soul ready for heaven. It can be your Purgatory on earth. Please purchase this book and follow it, there are certain prayers that you say at Mass on a particular feast day, you go to confession, receive the Eucharist and you may receive a Plenary Indulgence which removes the stains on the soul, it heals your soul from the affects of sin. This book is helpful to gain indulgences to help you get to heaven. Read this book and it explains them. I also have an Indulgence calendar to remind me of what days these indulgences occur on. This I ordered from Bridegroompress.com They have religious training and Indulgence calendars. Between the two, you can make your to heaven, it is all explained. The manual of Indulgences comes right from the Vatican in Rome, a must have!

Must-Have For Catholics!
I have heard a lot about Indulgences and researched them online, but this great book summarizes all of that in one place, and adds more info and indulgences! Such a treasure to have this at hand. A great help for teaching my kids about their faith and giving them a tool to help themselves and others into eternity.

Really helps clarify misunderstandings about Indulgences
(Note: Even though this Manual is translated, this is still a difficult read. You must understand the terminology, even the translation/transliteration from the original. I suggest consulting a Catholic spiritual leader at your local parish for further reference.)This translated Manual helped clear the muddy waters of one of the most misunderstood aspects of the Catholic faith, and often, one of the most contentious to explain, let alone to defend.Indulgences are not "hall passes" allowing Catholics to commit sins, with the expectation that those sins will be forgiven. Nor can Indulgences be bought/sold. Indulgences are definitely not "Reduced Sentence" or "Get Out of Purgatory For Free" cards.First and foremost, as the Manual clearly states, only God can truly grant Indulgences, regardless of our earthly attempts to gain them. Indulgences are actually nested in scriptural principles and teachings. It even encourages the faithful to do greater works of good, not as a competition, but as a way to truly demonstrate their faith. Personally (not a qualified opinion), Indulgences are another way to weed out superficial Catholics from the devout (i.e., cafeteria Catholics and those who just want to "keep score", from those who want to enrich and give greater meaning to their works of faith).I recommend this book for the laity who have a solid grounding in the Catholic faith, as a reference, or as a starting point in conjunction with directions from the clergy.

Great for a new prayer life incentive
It is good to look at the many different ways you can offer up our daily life. This was changed during JPII and a few small changes since. Always good to have a current version.

A Wonderful Book!!!
Partial or Plenary Indulgences can be gained for ourselves or poor souls in Purgatory. An Indulgence is the removal of all temporal punishment for sins already confessed. We can gain a Plenary Indulgence for ourselves daily or poor souls in Purgatory daily. We must 1. go to Confession, 2. receive the Eucharist, 3.pray for the pope's monthly intentions daily, 4. do a prescribed work daily( read Bible for half an hour or Eucharistic Adoration for half an hour, or do stations of the cross at a church or chapel. or pray the Rosary at a church or at home with another person. Jesus Christ gave the power to bind and loose to Peter and his papal successors. Matthew 18v18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."

The book arrived in excellent condition. The binding and paper used are of very high quality. In addition to listing the grants, it relevant prayers are also given in full so that one does not require a separate prayer book for looking the prayers up.This takes up nearly 100 pages. The Appendix contains a good index of plenary indulgences and prayers which is helpful.
