A book I have not yet read.
Since I purchased this book, however many months ago it was,I have yet to sit down and read through any of its essays. I did scan over a few and found that many of the authors were more interested in flexing their extensive vocabulary to convey their abstracted views of photography and the meaning of the photograph. Not really what I had in mind, though there might be some treasure buried within the pages. I don't think I'll start digging for a while. It's not an entry level read. I was hoping that the book would contain life experiences and advice from seasoned photographers. It might, though I haven't found it. Before you buy see if you can find it at a bookstore and read some of the chapters. Then consider whether it's worth the money.

Very informative for single source for photograph history and critique.
Very informative for single source for photograph history and critique. I particularly like reading the book in Kindle software because it allows me to Google photographer images directly from the text.I would recommend this book to any aspiring photographer.

A must for the Photographer and student of Photography
This book is a must have. It should be in every University library and on every individual's bookshelf. Why does a photographer want an education, formal or otherwise? Alone, there are so many quotable statements here and although there is some referencing, the view points from an eclectic group of experts are priceless.

Tough to review.
As I read this book I both liked and disliked it at times. Probably because the articles are of varying quality and opinion. I would say this book is a very good read for the serious student of photography but not a must have. Try a sample first.
