Powerful, Versatile Filter That Really Works Well
I inherited a tank from a friend's Widow who couldn't keep up with the aquarium after my friend's passing. The aquarium was horrible and it took me 3 months of constant water changes, cleaning, and gravel washings to get the aquarium environment healthy enough and stable enough for fish to not only survive in it, but thrive. No matter what I did the aquarium was always cloudy with the old filter. When I changed to the Magniflow 360 the water cleared up within 24 hours and has remained that way ever since with the exception of a short period of time where I included Sera Superpete in the filter media to help bring the PH levels down and get the GH under control. Even then, despite the slight yellow-brown tea color staining, the water was crystal clear. In fact so clear, that if it weren't for the aeration system you wouldn't be able to tell there was water in the aquarium. Even looking through the side of the aquarium, end to end, the water is still so clear that the current from the outflow and the aeration system are the only things that give away there is water in the aquarium. You still have to do regular cleanings of the gravel, glass and filter, but instead of having to do it every 3-4 days, I do water changes every two weeks and clean the filter once a month. The water is amazingly clear and the fish are thriving. I keep 1 Comet Gold Fish, 1 Plecostomus, 5 Black Skirt Tetras, 12 Cardinal Tetras, and 4 Wag Swordtails. I wouldn't think of it as fix all, but it is fantastic at doing what filters are supposed to do. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good filter. While it is more of a process than a biowheel filter, its still relatively easy to maintain and if you love fish as much as I do, its very much worth the extra effort. I love the versatility of media that can be used in the filter as well. Very easily adaptable depending on the needs of your aquarium. If you don't have one of these, you really need to get one.

Lol ok fine it did say to "clean before use"
Haha yes I also flooded my living room 2x. First time because it still had plastic around all the junk inside. Lol ok fine it did say to "clean before use". I thought it could just plug and play skipping that step. Second time right after because it never tells you to insert the gasket! Not included in the "easy to use" instructions. It's hilarious as it starts working really well... and then wooooooooosh water out all sides... unplug it? Nah the gravity just kept the h2o pouring out and all of the sudden the nice thick hose and the deep intake make a great way to drain 20 gallons of water in a jiffy! All over the carpet. Otherwise this thing is pretty good at its job. I bought as an adjunct to a dirty dirty 4 lb snapping turtle who goes through protein like... well an animal.. its sturdy and quiet. Pretty cool setup. It's my first canister filter. Don't plan to change the charcoal it's not some fancy salt coral tank although I would use a large one or at least consider it vs a sump. Or maybe as an adjunct to one for the charcoal. It's nice and study looking and well made for the price. I should have gotten the next size up just because, but this one is fine. Nice and quiet with good h20 flow. Eliminates need for a jet. Would highly recommend as a starter filter. I'm mainly using this to keep the water clear and stink free so can't vouch for ammoni elimination etc but the bioballs seem like a good amount of surface area. Again should have splurged for the larger one with the ceramic too. But again not for fish. Will buy again for other tanks as needed. And not sure why people are whining about the priming. Granted I'm a beefy guy but come on it's about the same pressure it would take to crush a mandarin orange.

Absolutely freakin NOT
Why in the heck does a ~$200 filter just stop working after less than 24 hours?! I'm not just talking some bubbles in the system or even a leak- like motor COMPLETELY DEAD. I did NOT run it dry / without water at any point (duh), nothing abnormal happened to my knowledge that would cause this. The system was airtight and working ok for ~20 hours until I came home to find the tank water completely still and this big heavy(!!!) filter useless. I seriously cant believe that SUCH an expensive product would just quit like that. I suppose I'm grateful I didn't come home to a flooded room, that wouldve been worse. However, I'm still irritated. I ended up going with the C-530 (unfortunately from this same company) for my 75 gallon. I have a smaller Marineland canister for my other tank that has lasted for 4+ years, so I guess my experience with this particular unit was a fluke?? The larger 530 mentioned has worked great for about three days now (fingers crossed!!!). PS- despite the issues, I still prefer this brand's filters over Fluval (theirs are noticeably flimsy?!)... which surprised me! Even with with this recent Marineland dud, I can't say nothing bad about the general sturdyness of their quality (filter baskets, tubing, etc.) Def recommended buying through Amazon though, so a return is possible/easier if you get a defective unit like I did.

Quality of life purchase!
This turns out to be an excellent replacement for my 20+ year old Magnum 350. The impeller was toast on my dear old magnum 350 so I came here looking for a replacement impeller and discovered the only new one left is on display at the Smithsonian ;) After many wasted hour of comparing the products in this category I chose this item chiefly out of brand loyalty... Turns out this is exactly what my situation required... I have a 40 gallon Sword-tail/Platty tank that is always a bit over populated (you know how they do.) This Marineland Magniflow Canister Filter 220 GPH seems to "over" filter this tank just perfectly. Just the fact that this comes with a virginal impeller and such a low low noise level it is drowned out by the sound of the bubblers. Ahhhhhhh! After swapping out the filters I did a much needed algae scrape and vacuum/40% water change and after a couple of days decided to trade out the polishing filter with a new one. This was a breeze to do thanks to the removable manifold feature - brilliant! Not with out some dribbling but if you come prepared with a hand towel you will find the task a pleasant improvement over the hassles of pulling a Magnum 350. I had no leakage problems with the install - but I am an experienced plumber and know what a proper water delivery system is supposed to look like before putting it into service. The hookup is a clever design and a "cinch" to employ. I am very pleased with the purchase and (most importantly) so are my "Fin-Babys" :D

Great filter IF you have the right parts..
So I am coming from a Fluval brand filter to Marineland. I've had Marineland filters for 15 years and they have always served me very well. Did a bit of research before picking this up and price wise this was a no brainier. Got it home, unpacked, had the Oring on top with the supplemental instructions which were good. Everything installed and went well EXCEPT I was getting air intrusion on the intake line. No problem, probably didn't clamp the plastic clamp down properly. Make sure the hose was seated correctly, positioned the clamp exactly as the instructions stated, fired it back up and still had air coming in through the intake hose. I decided to go superhuman and used pliers on the clamp to provide maximum pressure on it. Surely this would squeeze the hose good enough to keep air from getting in. NOPE! Just as a test I submerged the entire intake assembly and top of the hose on the water, air issue stopped so I knew 100% that the issue was at the hose/intake area as I had suspected. Contacted customer service and they asked for pictures. Once they replied they said I had the clamp on properly and to stop the leak I should go get a metal hose clamp from the hardware store. Picked up a $1 clamp, tightened and air BE GONE! Issue resolved. Filter is running great now. Hope they decide to include stainless clamps in the future vs the plastic ones. Filter is working great now and the tank is Crystal clear. This canister filter is alsi very quiet compared to the Fluval I had. UPDATE 1/6/19 - Filer is still running perfectly. No leaks, no noise. Is holding up significantly better than a Fluval 206 I have on another tank which is sprouting leaks EVERYWHERE.

Whisper quiet and does a great job of keeping the tank clean...
I purchased a 20 gallon hexagonal tank kit at PetSmart. It came with a heater and a filter. The filter was one of those 'hang on the side' type with the replaceable cartridges. As you can see by the first picture, it did not work well so I purchased another 'name brand' filter and it did not do much better. My office was starting to smell so I needed a solution. I had never used a canister tank before but my wife does use this one on her African Frog tank so I figured I would give it a try. I installed the filter on May 30th, 2020. Assembly was fairly easy and straightforward. I learned a few things from my wife's installation that made this one a lot easier: 1. Follow the assembly instructions but fill the filter tank before you put the lid on. 2. Once you have the filter in place, fill the intake tube with water then attach the intake pipe. 3. I replaced the plastic clamps with metal tube clamps but this is optional. If you follow those step, you will only have to 'prime' the filter for a short time. This was a definite time saver. On to the filter itself. It is whisper quiet and, as you can see by the second picture taken a week later, it cleaned the tank fairly quickly. As of today, August 17th, the tank is still crystal clear. I like this filter so much that I purchased a second one for my new tank. I highly recommend this filter.

A Long But Honest Review From A 1st Time Canister User
OK. This is a long review but it's 100% an honest one. I've never used a canister filter before, and honestly was really only getting this one as a hail Mary because I didn't know what else to do. A few weeks before my decision to buy this canister filter, my 75 gallon gold fish tank with 8 gold fish (none really very big) that had been up and going fine for 3 years crashed. To this day I don't know what happened-i came home to find my fish floating on their sides and gasping and their water was near the consistency of foam. I've never seen anything like this and I've got dozens of tanks and types of fish and have had fish for years. I lost all except for my black moor and one gold fish. I downgraded them to a 36 gallon (and got the other 3 smaller fish in the pics as their new roomies) and had their tank set up for 2 months. Water tests were fine but my water was frustratingly not clear like all my other tanks. Then my ammonia levels started getting ridiculous. I decided to try to get this canister filter, figuring if it didn't work, I'd literally tried all that me, my husband, 2 FB groups, and my local ma and pa pet supply shop could think of. I'd never had a canister filter before and didn't wanna buy a really expensive one for my first one because, to be honest, I was 100% sure I was throwing away my money. I watched a couple YouTube videos to get the gist of what I was doing. I filled the canister up with water from my tank, then added new water as a water change to my fish, primed it and got it running. Honestly for the first few days I was unimpressed. The same cloudy was visible, and we were not really seeing a difference but I figured I'd give it a bit and see. Wow. Wish I'd taken a before picture now. Before, you couldn't see halfway to the back of the tank---now, it's like crystal clear and sparkling! My water tests are perfect and my fish are definitely more active and happier. I'm not saying I'm gonna replace my aquaclear filters-which are tried and true and doing great one every other tank I have, but I am definitely saying that this filter not only exceeded my expectations, but has also greatly improved the health of my fish. I also want to say, I only really had -and honestly probably still have- just the most basic of ideas of how canister filters worked and I got this thing up and running entirely on my own in under 40 minutes. Yeah I had to pump that button to where I thought my arms were gonna fall off but take a hint: put water from your tank in it to get it started! I don't know that I'd put this on a huge tank but for my 36 bowfront and 5 fancy goldies it's doing incredible and was well worth the risk and time and money!

Great canister, when it works.
I really wanted to like this filter because I know Marineland stands behind their product, but I just had too many issues with mine. I set it up properly; no slack in hoses, straight hose to intake, no air bubbles anywhere near intake strainer, hose clamp on intake up against the rib on the intake assembly and tightened as far as it could go. And I still had bubbles coming through the filter. I would tilt the filter and rattle it a little to shake all the bubbles loose and they would continue to build up in great quantity after about an hour, and I would rinse and repeat the process for over a week, always with massive plumes of bubbles shooting out of the return spout. It was to the point that the impeller would stall momentarily due chopping through all the bubbles. I tried taking it apart and checking all seals, placing fresh silicone lubricant on all o-rings, etc and the same issue persisted. Then came home one day to find the filter completely stalled, probably air locked, the canister head was very warm to the touch, so I unplugged it. Purged the air, plugged it back in and nothing. I let it sit for a couple hours, plugged it in and then it started working, sputtering out a large plume of bubbles again. A few days after this it started making faint rattling noises. So I took it a part again, and examined the impeller and found that the shaft had broken in two. At that point I decided to just return it to Amazon. In spite of the issues, it filtered the water very well-the sponge and floss pad were both very filthy after the short period of use, and it was completely silent inside of the cabinet (until the impeller shaft broke.) I had considered other canisters from Fluval (bad bypass, poor CS and pricey) and Hydor (cheap plastic housing, messier to service), but they all had their pros and cons and I decided at this point that a canister just wasn't worth the hassle for me. Canisters all in all require more service than their worth, IMO. I decided to go with two Seachem Tidal 110 HOB filters. Cheaper and work just as good at filtering and they are a cinch to clean, so I clean them weekly and they still hold quite a bit of bio media. The best part is I never have to worry about them leaking, which is a "when," not "if," with canisters. And I use a Marineland magnum for water polishing once a week, it works great.

Non stop rattling sound
Seems there’s a design flaw on this thing that the pump button has something inside that makes the rattling sound non stop. Don’t recommend
