Well Built - Need Two People To Assemble
I assembled this portable hoop and it is great. By mistake I threw out the two cap/stoppers for the base. I called Lifetime and they kindly sent me a replacement set free of charge. I would advise you to read the instructions ahead of time and also get familiar with the material list (yellow colored document). I assembled the unit on the driveway and used the box cover as a floor cover. This protected the painted metal items from getting scratched while assembling. I would advise the following for better operation and safety. 1. Once assembled use silicone lube on all of the connections. This will keep them operating smoothly and help prevent rust as the paint wears away due to friction of the moving parts. 2. I wiped the area where the hoop height label was to be affixed with rubbing alcohol prior to attaching the label. Then I pressed the label onto the shaft making sure there were no air bubbles. To seal in the edges of the label I gave the entire label area a few coats of UV resistant clear coat. I paid special emphasis to the edges of the label. This way the label will not start to fray or peel from the shaft due to weather and temp extremes. 3. Lifetime recommends filling the base with sand. This makes sense since sand is heavier than water (about 40% heavier). However, once it is filled with sand moving it is not going to be easy. I used water in the base (for easier moving and emptying) and for peace of mind I used spiral in-ground stakes with a ratchet belt around the main shaft. The stake set I used is the "Keeper 05400 Severe Weather Kit." I also poured in a gallon of car antifreeze to prevent the water from freezing and cracking the plastic base weight.

There is only one thing I'd change
This is a great basketball hoop. We do really like it. Although the box was kind of mangled b/c it wasn't lifted or delivered properly (and it shifted quite a bit as a result) nothing was broken. It was pretty easy to assemble and erect. I used F-clamps to help hold things while pushing bolts through the holes for the backboard assembly. I also recommend a flashlight for anyone attempting to put in the bolt that requires Allen wrenches (indeed, I didn't use the wrenches supplied but instead used my spinner handle with a bit on one end and my ratchet on the other). As well, this was the hardest bolt to push through and my suggestion is that you not push the bolt all the way into the pole but rather use a flashlight and find the hole first. There is a bit of a lip. I only run about 5'10" and 155lbs, but hand no trouble lifting the whole assembly to fill with water. Just use a brick or similar block for a pivot/fulcrum and it's easy to raise. My biggest concern right now is the pair of bolt heads that are exposed on the face of the pole where the lowering mechanism is attached. There were no cover supplied for these and I'm pretty sure from past experience that these will cut a basketball. Some sort of rubber cover will be needed. I'm going to use some chair feet for wooden floors and sticky tack. We'll try that and see. Otherwise, highly recommended. Great price. Update: ours and our neighbours' (they have the next size down) both survived Tropical Storm Julia and Hurricane Matthew. We did put a little bit more water in ours than they recommended and it did stay upright. The wind turned it. The neighbours' hoop did start to float (less water) and fell over both times, but it did survive. When Hurricane Matthew started to get rough, we put ours on its side. The funny thing was it collected water in the backboard. We haven't figured out how to get that out yet.

Fun for my kids
This hoop works well for my kids who play every day. We used ground screws and straps to secure it into the ground by the driveway after watching YouTube videos. That way we could use water and not worry as much about it tipping. I have had it for several months and it endured a hurricane and it is still in great shape. There is a coil that hooks to the backboard and it worked one way to have it adjusted to lower setting but needed to be moved to adjust it to 10 feet - so that took a bit of time to figure out. It is also very heavy, which made assembly challenging.

2.5 hours to assemble solo
Clear instructions (you'll have to analyze the pictures to see exactly how the hardware goes together) and about 2.5 hours to assemble solo. There are a few tricky parts with some of the bolt holes on the backboard bracket but just pay attention to the pictures and you'll be fine. I highly recommend having a second person to help once you're installing the backboard on the pole. I did it on own with a little creativity but it would have been far easier with another person. My kids and I used it for over an hour after assembly and it was great. Super easy to raise and lower when needed.

Worth the money
Easy to assemble, heavy weight so it isn't going to blow right over. I opted for the gel base stuff that you add water to instead of straight water and it works amazing. We love the ease of changing the height.

Comments are fairly accurate
Got this for the family, namely my 7 year old son. It took probably 6 hours for my wife and I to put it together. So many tools (i.e wrenches and sockets) needed. Had to go back on a few steps to move forward in steps. But once we got it up, it has been great from there. And glad we paid extra for the bigger backboard. He can now make a layup and shoot bank shots. If you have the time, patience and want to spend a few more dollars but not go crazy, this is a good hoop.

Just having put this together my family hasn't used it too much. So far seems like a very solid hoop that's easy to raise and lower. The backboard doesn't deaden the ball like some portable hoops do. You get a fairly true bounce off board and rim. The assembly instructions were great. All pieces were meticulously packaged and labeled. I found it similar to a lego set. The packages of hardware are essentially opened and assembled one at a time, so you don't have unnecessary hardware cluttering your work space or getting lost when not being used. Directions are clear and easy to follow with relatively clear diagrams that specify the labeled hardware and pieces to be used for each step. Took about 6 hours to complete over 2 days but that was with 1 person doing the majority of assembly. The instruction recommend 2 people.
