It’s Great
Worth the money for whats in it and what it shows you.

Hmmm... okay
It shows you parts and pieces of drawing.... like the outer part of the arms, legs, feet and cheeks.... which is just a bunch of wavy lines on paper, then they show you the part 9f the inner arms, legs, cheeks upper face.... just to name a few things... and while... yes it does eventually put a picture together, it teaches you to copy cat... like tracing without tracing paper.... no real ability for drawing is taught from this.... unless perhaps you repeatedly try drawing the same pictures over and over again... until it just comes naturally... and IF done that way... I suppose one might be inclined to learn this way.... to be fair... some people want a bit more on instruction... other than these things I actually like the book.

Poor instructions
I don’t know how the printer version is as I bought the kindle version but All these series are are page after page of step by step drawings where each step is on a different page so isn’t easy to follow as you can’t view more than one page at a time. Why aren’t the steps put on the same page? At least 2-3 steps anyway.

Not up to the Lee Ames standards
I have about a dozen of these "Draw 50 --" books, and this is the first to disappoint. The other books start with the basic shapes such as circles, ovals, squares, etc., and lead one from there to creating the desired drawing. This is a most excellent method of learning to draw whatever interests you, and it is fairly easy to then use the same techniques to put that subject in different poses. This one, however, seems to have been made from the finished picture backwards, as if he had just kept erasing lines and details to get back to step one. So, you are just drawing the outline and filling in the details. If you make even slight variations or even mistakes, you will not even come close to the same finished drawings. The characters are a bit hokey, but would have been fun to draw if there had been some basis for building and then changing them. This way there is only the opportunity to draw them exactly as Mr.Ames has drawn them. I think that minimizes the usefulness of this book quite a lot. I can, however, recommend most of the others in this series as 5 star products. Check out the Draw 50 horses, cats, dogs, animals, and baby animals for some first rate drawing lessons.

Wonderful present for my 12-year-old niece!
My niece loves fairy-tale creatures AND drawing, so when she got this for Christmas, she couldn't believe her luck! Every time she comes over, she pulls it out of the closet and practices her skills (which are really improving, thanks to this step-by-step instruction book).

Disappointing
Not as good as previous publications. Initial shapes are difficult for children, not enough steps using easy shapes as for previous themes by the same author. Very disappointing

Doesn't really teach how to draw
Hmm, don't want to be unfair bit this book provides random squiggles to start the drawing rather than teaching to build the picture as others do. Unfortunately our son got 4 different ones for Christmas but will use other types in the future.
