PerTronix 91181 Ignitor II Adaptive Dwell Control for Delco 8 Cylinder

Just installed this on a 1967 327 that hadn't been started in 19 years! This product is no joke, I sprayed starter fluid in carb (fuel tank not hooked up yet), started first crank! Got it idling perfect after 2nd crank, no lie. Pertronix well exceeded my expectations, made me a very happy man, and even got to get rid of the darn ballast resistor, by using Pertronix coil Blaster II.

Works well once I got it set up. I would have given it five stars but I had trouble setting it up and I must have put it together and taken it apart at least a dozen times trying to get it within specs. I finally had to remove the distributor gear to add another washer. They supply all the necessary parts and the instructions are clear, but even with that being said it's still not 100% within specs, but it still works fine on my '57 Chevy.

I purchased this Petronix to replace a older unit. I have has no issues with the one installed I just wanted to replace before it would fail. When I received it I noticed that the Mylar tape that is on the magnet had a edge that was a bit pealed but I did not think much of it. I had good gaps between the modules and was no interference. After 3 months of trouble free driving, this moring my car would not start. After trouble shooting everything I found the spark, so I removed the distributor and found the Mylar wrapped around the distributor shaft . The magnets were all scattered around the distributor. I thought I can reinstall the magnets and get it running again but ended up finding out that the module had been damaged. I have never seen this before. I have used Petronix for years but I was very diisapointed with this one.

Nice easy upgrade on my 1968 Riviera. Had to remove the distributor from the engine for install, although not sure if I really had to after the fact. It likely did make it easier then hunched over the fender. A little snappier response and the engine overall seems happier

If you are concerned that this will be a big project, do not hesitate it can easily be done in an hour. My install took 2 days because I decided to disassemble the entire distributor clean, paint and grease the entire unit, after 40 years I thought it deserved it. In my opinion this unit eliminated any performance concerns I had with the ignition because you just install it set the timing and you are done. I also replaced the coil with the PerTronix Flame Thrower 2 coil, it was a little bigger and I had to elongate the mounting holes on the coil bracket to move it away from the distributor cap a little. My install was on a 73 Corvette 350 SBC.

This is a great product for eliminating the stock points ignition, was easy to install and it’s so nice not to have to adjust or replace the points

I purchased and installed the PerTronix Ignitor II and the Flamethrower II 45,000 volt coil for my '72 Chevy C10 pickup, and have experienced a TREMENDOUS difference in overall performance. Startup is easier, faster; throttle response throughout the entire powerband is vastly improved. I was skeptical, but am a firm believer now. Dump the points/condenser system and standard coil and run this, you will not regret it.

Quality update to early distributor, follow supplied instructions and you will have no problems, have used several of these on older Wisconsin engines, recommended update, also purchased new Pertronix coil
