Will the Desitin Jar 16oz fit in one of the side compartiments?

Most likely not, to give u an idea....the 16oz bottle of Johnson Lotion fits if on a diagonal. I have only tubes of products in mine. no jars

Can this unit be hung on a wall?

No. It doesn't have any hardware to put it on a wall nor any holes in the product by which to secure it onto a wall. It is made to sit on a table or dresser.
