The simplest and smallest pattern of cap goes with the Early Colonial pilgrim dress, the bonnet with the 1870's/Old West gown calls for a flat front and some volume in back when worn, and the 18th-century/Revolutionary Period style Colonial bonnet (called a mobcap) is the one that requires ruffles in front and fullest volume in back when worn. Like the collars, the fabric for the caps of the Colonial style costumes are to be plain white. The 1870's/Old West bonnet can be any other color if desired, or match the gown that it goes with being from the same fabric material.
