Review: Perfect for travel! Makes snorkeling fun! - This is a perfect book for a beginner. I went snorkeling in Roatan for the first time last year and I was thankful to meet up with some very experienced people who had a much larger reference book. That book was about an inch bigger than this book. But that book is for someone who knows what they are looking at or looking for. Thatโs not me. What makes this book great is that it has a general shape section up front and if you know the name of the fish, you can find it in the index. I would always be stuck trying to explain to my new found friends what a particular fish looked like and many times we were just stumped because I lacked the knowledge to ID the fish. Iโd be like, โitโs silver. Looked clear when it turned in the water. Had these pointy fins that stick out.โ In all fairness, they were pretty good at figuring out what I was talking about, but what if you donโt have experts around? Then you are stuck looking at pretty fish and not having any idea what they are called. This books solves that major problem! Itโs not an extensive reference manual, but it gives the most common things youโll encounter. There are sections for everything from odd shaped, to reddish/big eyes to large lips! Itโs awesome! Itโs also helpful in explaining the different stages of the fish as the same kind can look very different as a โbabyโ or juvenile. My friend got different colored stickers to mark the fish she encountered and had them organized by year. Overall, it makes snorkeling more fun when you know what youโre looking at! I also purchased the pocket guides (fish and creatures) as well as the reference book because itโs just so cool! If you go once, maybe get the pocket guides and carry them with you when you snorkel as you will likely forget what you saw by the time you exit the water as there will be so many interesting things. Review: Love this book - Very good book for identifying fish in the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico. Worth every penny.

Must have for Snorkelers and Divers
I highly recommend this book for snorkelers and scuba divers. It is so much fun to peruse and identify the fish you saw after your excursion. Our whole family had a great time looking through this and were impressed by its thoroughness and level of detail.

Fish do not like misidentification
After diving and improperly identifying species, fish were not having patience with me. If you suggest a โroyal parrotfishโ ID instead of a โqueen parrotfishโ; youโre itching for trouble. Donโt do it. Be the life of the party: invest in the best fish identification book; then avoid unnecessary awkwardness during your next dive.

Great Pictures
Bought both Reef Fish Identification and Snorkeling Guide to Marine Life so I could revisit all the amazing fish, corals, and sea creatures I saw on my snorkeling vacation. Pictures are sharp and book includes information regarding identification size, and range.
