love this!
i think this book is just fabulous. Supply lists are complete and project instructions are clear and easy to understand If you have basic sewing and embroidery experience the projects are not overly intimidating. embroidery instructions are given or check out a you tube video if the stitch is new to you. I think it's rare to find a book where every project is something I plan to make, usually I'm lucky to find 1 or 2 that appeal to me. The clear photos are a bonus and really beautiful. If I don't want to invest in silk I think a good quality cotton substitution would work as well. There is a color substituation chart if you'd prefer to use 6-strand floss from dmc and/or anchor which is nice as I can't find silk embroidery thread in my local shops I would like to try to make some projects with silk but I'm sure I'd still get a nice effect with cottons too. I'd really like hearing about the history behind each project and quotes from JA's books referencing how these are everyday projects that women routinely stitched for her herself, her home and her family. it's fun to think Jane Austin would have seen these projects in the Lady magazine and stitched a few herself. i doubt anyone would go through this book and not find something they just have to make.

If you love embroidery and Jane Austen, just go ahead and put this in your cart
Do you need this? No. But do you neeeed this? Yes. Yes you do. It's beautiful and historical and encourages handicrafting (the admiration of or actual doing of), a lost art in this high tech time. Go back 200 years and savor the patterns, the symmetry, and the delicacy of Georgian period hand made art that's sometimes even useful, but even if it's not, it's beautiful and occasionally that matters more.

Great historic info, could use a but more pattern detail
This book was written in a very conversational tone, and covers a lot of historical and "general interest" material about the Regency period and I'm learning a lot! I purchased it mostly for pattern templates, and hoped the patterns would be easy to copy and follow. Unfortunately, they are not on a grid, and there are no measurements; it just says "photocopy the patterns and size them as you like." Otherwise, it's an interesting and well-written book and I'm looking forward to trying a few of the patterns.

Lovely Embroidery Book
What a lovely embroidery book! Beautiful patterns and intricate designs. Super cool that these were the same patterns that women back in Jane Austin's time used for their embroidery. The book had a lot more to it than I expected. Pleasantly surprised! I hope you found this review helpful.
