Better than a normal pen of course
Fun, simple little toy. I never received any complaints for using it at work and it was just nice and cool to have there sometimes. As a pen, it gets the job done, but it's definitely not a great option as a balisong trainer as it is made of cheap plastic and is very lightweight (which is usually not an enthusiast preference) but it's nice to have. Its tradeoff for not being a good balisong trainer is that it can be used to write with and it is not very expensive. It would be rather costly if it was a regular pen, but, you see, this is no regular pen. Based on my understanding, the Heavy Duty BaliYo is probably a better enthusiast option but it will obviously cost more. I've had this for a few months, I stopped using it regularly but it hasn't broken on me so that's good. I don't really use it anymore because I haven't been bringing it to work and because now I have better balisong trainer options for at home and outside of work. I may eventually buy the heavy duty one some day.

Super cool but actually writing with it feels awkward. It broke in my backpack tho.

Spyderco Again Creating the Greatest American Knives & Now Pen / Toy. Hours of Fun!!! www.baliyo.com Shows it All
This is a fun playful product. Spyderco is the knife of such special forces units as the Marines and Navy Seals. There's a reason your favorite book characters like Hannibal Lechter and Jack Reacher have them as their weapon of choice. Look on You Tube, and you'll find Kahli Martial arts. This is a Filipino martial arts style that involves knives and sticks, and is taught to Marine Special forces. Spyderco is the knife they are trained with. While living in Golden, Colorado (where Spyderco is located), my fiance and I were given lessons from a former Marine in exchange for designing his website. Everything they make is made here in America,. The steel comes from Seki-City Japan. If that's not engraved on the blade, you don't have a real Spyderco, and there are MANY fakes. I learned this at their site and factory. Or call them in Golden to confirm. Because nothing on earth beats a Spyderco product! The BaliYo is just the final nail in the coffin of every other knife maker in this country. How on earth do you make a PEN FUN? Spyderco asked that very question, and used it's knife making skills to create BaliYo. This pen is fun, cool looking, and great for your coordination, dexterity and strengthening your hands. Just go to www.baliyo.com and you will find hours worth of entertaining tricks. Bored at work? Stuck sitting and waiting? Simply unclip your BaliYo from your pants with the two metal clips and pass the time learning your newest trick or creating new ones. Whenever I'm bored, watching TV, or even reading, I check at the Baliyo site, pick a trick, and get to work. What's even more amazing is this really is a comfortable writing pen! It took me one day to get used to holding it the right way, and already it's my favorite. Wet, dry, upside down, this pen is designed to be used any time anywhere any way. While more and more American companies are selling our country out by sending jobs over seas, Spyderco proves that American's can still do the job best when given a chance. Thank you Spyderco for once again bringing me the best of the best!

Decent product for the price, but is very high maintenance
I've had this product for around a week, and so far the performance is pretty nice, especially in comparison to the "butterfly pen" I had been using. It sounds pretty, has only pinched me once or twice, and the handles feel pretty good. However I have had a couple problems with it, the first fo which, and the biggest, is that the screws come out super easily. Within the first couple hours of having it I dropped it from a couple feet onto carpet and one of the screws came out, and the next day the same happened again. Also the latch fell out. The worst part about this is that the crappy star bit wrench that comes with it strips immediately. I would say overall this product is worth the money if you are willing to spend a little bit of time pulling apart and super glueing the pieces together so the screws don't fall out, but if you can you should probably look for something more durable.

Best money ever spent.
This is by far the best thing I have ever spent my money on. It's small, lightweight, and is almost addictive to flip. I almost can't stop flipping it around. Pros Sturdy Lightweight Easy to flip I won't have any problems flipping during school Cons The fact that it is very light makes it kinda hard to return to using my actual trainer. Pen cartridge is a pain to screw back on Clips don't stay on after removed and then put back on. Fanning and rollovers are difficult, but not impossible. I'm giving this five stars because the cons don't affect the flipping too badly. Rollovers, while difficult, are not impossible. I practice quite a bit, since if I don't, I lose my touch. Doing a rollover requires very good timing, but once I nail it with this one, I can finally do a helix on my trainer.

spyderco baliyo
Buggest piece of crap I have ever bought. It deserves 0 stars. I bought this for my son. He is 12, and a very responsible kid. I explained to him that he needs to be easy with this pen and not slam it around because after all it is plastic. He loved this pen, then after 2 days it cracked in 2 places at the plastic seam at the loop holes. He was very disappointed. Once again, China=crap!!! period. and yes, this one is made in china and the other more expensive one that actually lasts is made in the good ol' USA. When will we learn that cheap equals CHEAP. by the time I pay for shipping it will cost me more than this junk pen, so it goes in the trash. we should apply a "junk" or "recycle" tax to everything made in China to help pay for the landfills overload by their products.

The best toy for balisong lovers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok here is the deal this toy is awesome!!! The shipping is great. It got here 3 days earlier. My problem with the balisongs is that it is illegal. I can't bring it to school and flip it through the boring classes and annoy the teacher with the noise :) So i looked for an alternative. I found the baliyo and i was very very exited! I read the reviews that said that it is a skill based toy and i absolutely agree with that. But it is not harder to flip than any balisong knife. It is a bit light but after 10 minutes you get used to it and you don't even notice it. Plus you don't have to worry for it to come out of your hand and kill someone. I am very very satisfied with this toy. If you child is in to flipping knives then buy it to him/her. It is great chip and useful. The pen works great and i am satisfied with it as well. But the pen is not very easy to use but with a bit of practice it is perfect. But-om line is that this toy is great!!! If you have a doubt buy it you wont regret it. And despite what it shows in the picture the pen is a solid black color.

Just kind of Meh...
I was excited to get this as a bit of a fidget toy and to put with my bullet journal. For the record, I am a bit of a 'knife' guy but not a balisong or butterfly knife connoisseur. I don't think they're really practical or cool. That said, this thing is a little bit of fun. Not recommended as a trainer for the real thing... this does not punish(or give feedback) that the edged side of the blade on a real one would be closing on your fingers. Again, bought to fidget with and its okay at that. Can be fun and look kind of flashy. The blue is cool. That said, it just feels really cheap. The joints on the arms have so much flex to them. When flipping they can kind of flip off axis and jiggle around and when closed pen(blade)-out any grip on them causes them to overlap. It would be nice if the handles locked together so it could be written with using just the pen part. It writes in closed position and its kind of thick and awkward. I know, that's what she said... The pen writes well and I imagine refills units are not to hard to come by but haven't looked. You can never get the threads tight enough though and the tip rotates while using it - rotates causing the pen tip to come out enough to be marking hands, pockets, or other stuff without you knowing about it. The the plastic threads stripped and it does this even easier now. Meh. Just so much meh.

Broke after a few days of use.
One of the handles snapped off when I was using it. I did not expect it to be delicate.
