Comparison to The Laundress New York Wool and Cashmere Shampoo and Soak Wash!
As a hand knitter, blocking is an important technique in getting your hand knitted items into a desired shape by redistributing the stitches, without stretching it out or damaging the fibers. Plain water can be used for this purpose but to keep the natural fibers soft and to preserve the natural lanolin oils found in theses fibers, a wool wash is more efficient. I have purchased and used this item, along with The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo, Cedar, 16 fl. oz. – 32 loads and Soakwash Liquid Laundry Wash, 12-Ounce, Scentless . Here is my comparison of all three items: 1. Eucalan Delicate Wash Wrapture – Jasmine This is a no rinse wash that contains a touch of lanolin to naturally condition fibers. I used this wash on several Lopapeysas that I hand knitted with scratchy Icelandic wool. I simply poured about 2 capfuls per gallon of cold water and let the sweater sit overnight. I squeezed it out and laid flat to dry (on a blocking mat) the next day (shaping if necessary). This wash was perfect in softening the wool and gave it a light jasmine scent. Grade A+ 2. The Laundress New York Wool and Cashmere Shampoo – Cedar This is a highly concentrated wool and cashmere shampoo that contains lanolin and cedar extracts. I also used this wash on hand knitted Lopapeysas and a fisherman’s sweater for my husband. I did the same process using about 2 capfuls per gallon of cold water and let the sweater sit overnight, however, this shampoo (it’s sudsy and soapy), requires rinsing. I rinsed with cold water until it ran clear then squeezed it out and laid flat to dry (on a blocking mat) the next day (shaping if necessary). I also recommend this shampoo for washing (cleaning) wool items that have been soiled or sweaty. It works wonderfully on my husband and children’s ski wool items and base layers. This wash was perfect in softening the wool and giving it a lovely cedar “woodsy” smell that is perfect for the “manly” man yet still subtle and feminine for the “girly” girl! Grade A+ 3. Soak Wash for Hand Knits – Scentless This is a gentle no rinse formula that’s phosphate free and perfect for people with sensitive skin or sensitive noses! I use this for all my hand knitted baby and children’s items (form socks and hats to sweaters and blankets) and hand knitted items I give as gifts. I think this one would be perfect for other delicate items such as lingerie. I follow the same method, as with the other washes (soak, squeeze and rinse, lay flat to dry). This wash was perfect in providing the softness without the fragrance! Grade A+ Note I cannot comment on how any of these washes/shampoos preform on machine washed items as I’ve only done them by hand. None of my items have shrunk using any of the above washes/shampoos. I highly recommend any of the above three for your wool, cashmere, or natural fiber items!

So versatile and easy
I recently bought this to use for my cresta wool leggings and after I washed them they were so soft and smelled so amazing. I decided to try it on my flannel shirts because washing them in regular detergent always makes them feel rough to the touch. I was absolutely thrilled at how super soft the shirts felt after washing them. I have also used it on cashmere and sherpa fleece. It works great on everything. I will never use regular laundry detergent for any of those items again. I use either the rinse cycle or the delicate cycle on my front load washer with a tsp or less of the product depending on how many and what type of items I'm washing, and it leaves everything feeling, looking and smelling amazing. I love it. Update 3/30/24 - I now use this exclusively on all of my laundry. I just love the smell so much and I love how nice it makes all my clothes feel. I'm totally addicted to this stuff. A little goes such a long way and the beautiful scent lingers on my clothes and it's just lovely.

Smells great and I love that it's no rinse.
Update: While wet, the smell is irritating and I start sneezing as I'm sensitive to it. When it dries, it's fine. But it took about 2 days to dry so I might switch to the unscented anyway. Two days of sneezing is just too much. Original review: I'm not a product scent person. I prefer unscented things, but this is really pleasant. I love that you don't have to rinse it. It saves a lot of time. I bought an Oxo fine washable flat dryer rack just for this, washed a heavy sweater and a bra, and they came out well. They haven't dried yet so I'll see what they look like then.

A Real Wool Wash
Update 7/12/23: It's still my favorite detergent for woolen items! It works wonderfully on 100% mulberry silk pillowcases❤️ Update 10/22/20: I have been using this product for almost four years now. This is the only product I will even consider for my woolen items. It strips out heavy campfire smoke, softens up the wool with the lanolin, and smells INCREDIBLE. My fiancé got jealous about my sweaters so now he asks for me to wash his. He simply loves the scent too. I will be a customer for life! April 2017: I was very hesitant that the jasmine scent would be appealing to me since I only like truly natural scents. Having previously been a florist I am pretty picky about the floral fragrances. This one is not 100% "natural" smelling, but I found myself falling more and more in love with it with each use. Now I want to enrobe myself in this scent. I started washing all of my wool items just so I could smell this more often! And the gentleness is impressive. It cleaned out some bad odors from a few of my items with a short soak and no agitation. I was shocked!

A Little overpowering, especially for wool diapers.
I started with Eucalyptus which I absolutely love, but I wanted something a bit more feminine for my cashmere and scarves. If you are not familiar with Eucalan, it is a no-rinse delicates wash for much more than just wool. It can be used to clean everything from delicate clothes to carpets and furniture. So far, it has never failed my spot-test so I have yet to find a fabric I can't use it on. I knew the scent was going to be too much the moment I received the amazon box. I was worried that it had leaked, but no, it is just that richly scented. It sat on the kitchen counter for a few days and made my entire kitchen smell almost as strong as the jasmine that was blooming outside. If you are rinsing, then the scent is just about perfect. For my wool diaper covers I am washing them with the wrapture for the antiseptic properties and then doing a separate lanolizing wash with the eucalyptus Eucalan. The result is just the slightest touch of scent that lingers just long enough to enjoy the soothing benefits. Handy tip: Eucalan removes crayon with minimal work. I dilute it in a spray bottle and have used it to remove crayon from wood furniture, table tops, and non washable sofas. Spray, wait a moment, rub with a clean corner of microfiber.

Almost magical at getting out stains
I wash all my cashmere sweaters at home and I have many some are 25 years old and look pretty good. This wash is remarkable because you don't rinse but somehow the dirt is gone and left in the bowl with the water after washing. Two days in a row I was lying on my back eating chocolate ice cream or a chocolate covered ice cream bar and spilled chocolate on two different pale blue cashmere sweaters. Don't ask how I did it twice, just unbelievably silly. BUT the Eucalan removed every trace within about a minute without rubbing or scrubbing, I dint know how it works but it's a remarkable product. I also have some absurdly expensive lingerie, Italian and French, very self indulgent but I am very, very sick, ironically with breast cancer although I still have most of my breasts, and why not at this point. I wash it in Eucalan and it comes out perfectly. It is less expensive than it's competitors in this laundry niche and I think it does a better job. Victoria's Secret used to have a wonderful lingerie wash that was also good but not like this, unfortunately it isn't available anymore but it was also very expensive and not nearly as good for my cashmere. I highly recommend Eucalan
