Q: Is this a good ruler for quilting? Ima beginner i need help

It is a good ruler if you are making Lemoyne star blocks, however you probably need other types of rulers more if you are a beginner. You will be making simpler blocks for a while till you are more confident. A 12" square, a 6" or 8" square and a 24" long ruler that is about 4" to about 6" wide are the first ones I would buy if I were just starting. You can make a lot of different blocks with those three rulers. You will add more as you get more experience. Good luck! You are starting a really fun hobby!

Q: Does the size of the star change itself change when you change block sizes?

Yes, as the block size gets larger the star gets proportionately larger. The star is 1/2" smaller side to side and top to bottom than the block itself. Thus, you have a 1/4" seam allowance around the edges so you can incorporate it into a quilt.
