My obsession with fountain pens is curbed by my need to eat, buy groceries, and you know, live. Many are just way over my budget, but this one scratched that itch, mainly because it's beautiful (rainbow lives up to its name) and in a doable price range. I love the weight as it feels heavy but not too heavy and substantial (aka expensive). The set comes with 24 cartridges (half black, half blue). They were clicked in easily and the writing experience is so, so smooth, probably the best writing pen I've had in a long while. Even when it's been sitting for a while, it easily writes without my having to "prime" it. I've written so much in the past few days that my first cartridge is almost empty. Many fountain pens I've had in the past were much loved but I'm not sure that I would trust them on the go. I would usually end up with ink on my fingers at some point and I was afraid of smudging on everyday documents. The blue ink dries pretty quickly, and the color is vibrant. I love this pen. Maybe next month, I'll go for another color.

I remember watching commercials of luxury cars where you see people nicely dressed in glamorous clothes to be ready to experience a night of luxury at its finest. That's how I felt when I picked up this pen. It is an elegant looking pen that's wrapped up in quality packaging that lets you know you are in for an extraordiny writing experience. I purchased Turquoise Gold. I use a Hobonichi planner for my daily writing activities which allows me to journal, schedule, plan, budget, etc. The challenge was finding the right pen for my journaling. It seems like I've gone through so many different pens that didn't seem to accommodate my writing style. I've used a plenty gel pens because the ink is a little darker and the writing is a little smoother. After a while, many of them start to skip when the ink gets below medium level. I felt like the singing U2 song "I Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For!." I then thought of using fountain pens to provide me with a little more flexibility. I never used a fountain pen so this will be a first. I originally purchased a couple of different disposable fountain pens. After writing the first sentence I immediately sent them back for a refund because they started skipping (still havent found what I'm looking for). Then I came across the Wordsworth & Black Collection. I thought, these fountain pens look like a very good quality fountain pens. I was willing to pay the higher price for good quality fountain pen which had good reviews. I then decided to purchase one. If I didn't like it I would return it and move on with my gel pens. When I opened the box and took out the pen, I was so impressed with not only the look of the pen, but the feel and weight of the pen. I felt like I just wanted to get dressed up before writing with this pen ( I was at home working in my pjs). Once I put the ink cartridge in and began to write, my first words I wrote were "Oh My Gosh!" This is truly a high quality luxury pen. I have not ever written with a fine quality fountain pen before but this is a game changer. The writing is very smooth, and it doesnt skip. The ink cartridges are easy to install, and you also have the flexibility of using the Pis Ton Mechanism for bottled ink. The ink doesn't blotch on your paper and allows you to have quite an elegant writing style. I am hoping to purchase some additional pens that I can quickly write with different colors, and looking to purchase the pens without the cartridges. I may have to use this pen to write a song "I Have Finally Found... What I'm Looking For!" Happy Writing!!!

Update - 11-1-20: Two items to update: 1. Replacement pen arrived yesterday evening. Used it with the converter this morning and my Waterman Serenity Blue Ink and it writes beautifully. As well as the last pen wrote before continuously running out of ink. All other positive comments from my original post apply - wonderful pen in the hand, and on paper. 2. Customer Service at Waterman& Black - excellent customer service. THe problem with the 2-day initial reply process is that Waterman & Black Customer Service is in China. TIme difference applies. They read my issue and immediately told me that they were sorry this happened, had a couple of hints on cleaning the pen to clear any blockage (which shouldn't be an issue with a brand new pen), AND informed me they were sending a replacement pen with their apologies. I informed them that I had already returned the faulty pen and had another one coming to me via Amazon. Amazon - one day replacement - THANK YOU. As far as Waterman & Black, I provided my input as to what I believed the problem MIGHT have been - a blocked ink flow tube from material associated with the plastic cartridge that I used first with the first pen. As I said here, I used the replacement pen first off with the converter and my ink bottle and it performs flawlessly. The cartridges they use are thick at the end that goes into the pen barrel toward the head. I don't know the design/style of their piercing/cutting mechanism, but I believe there is a chance a piece of the cartridge blocked the ink channel that prevented flow of ink by gravity, as I could get it to flow only by screwing down the converter barrel plunger every half a page. In any event - we'll see what Waterman & Black say about that. But in the end, I have a functioning pen with the converter. IF Waterman & Black send me another pen as they said they will, I will use a cartridge after verifying proper operation with the converter, to see if the pen experiences an ink flow failure again. I'll stay in touch about the level of customer service to follow up with investigating possible issues with their pens/cartridges. I've used fountain pens a lot throughout my life. I find using them to be artistic and enjoy the feel of good ink flowing on to paper with a quality pen. I purchased this particular pen based on reviews and the color/nib color based on personal preference. My nitial impression of the quality, heft, feel, and balance of this pen in my hand was 'outstanding.' I ordered the additional package of cartridges, and a bottle of Waterman 'Serenity Blue' ink to round out my purchase and happily loaded a blue ink cartridge to see how well it performed. WIth ANY new fountain pen, you have to prime it to begin writing because there's no ink in the nib to pull ink from the chamber/cartridge downward. I shook the pen down to force ink toward the nib to begin writing - nothing. I shook harder, now over paper towels because of the expected large drops to fly out - nothing. I shook it downward vigorously - nothing. I removed the barrel and SQUEEZED the cartridge to force ink into the nib. The cartridge is much more sturdy that the old cartridges I've used in the past - nothing. I removed the cartridge and checked to ensure it had been pierced - it had and I could squeeze ink out of it. I discarded the cartridge and inserted the converter into the pen head to use the bottled ink from Waterman. I used the converter and pulled a full cartridge worth of ink into the pen from the nib in the ink bottle. I began to write. AHA!!! I was rewarded with a beautiful line of ink and I the pen felt like it was gliding over my paper - laying down a beautiful line of ink, and my handwriting felt like it was being rewarded for my efforts to make nice loops, gentle curls, and exact punctuation. I was happy now ..... for about one-half of one page. The ink began to flow slower, until finally it stopped altogether. I had to unscrew the barrel from the head and using the converter screw-plunger apply pressure to the ink inside the converter to push ink into the nib once again. I began writing again and was rewarded once again with a beautiful writing experience ... for one-half of one page. Same story - same result - same corrective measure ......... I wrote to the company in the hopes of some 'insider' information about possible causes of this problem. No answer for two days - in the middle of the week. It's a fountain pen, not a new tech piece of complex industrial electronic or mechanical equipment designed to make my life better. It's a fountain pen, and it simply doesn't work. I purposefully avoided fountain pens that were relatively inexpensive because I thought "If I pay a little more, I'll get a little more." Apparently that idea is incorrect in today's world. I cannot afford a Mont Blanc. I used to use the old standard fountain pens that had the cartridges you used in the caligraphy sets made by the same company ... never had a problem with those pens, but thought they were 'baseline' pens and perhaps I could get a better writiing experience with a pen from a manufacturer that seemed to be a 'cut above.' It seems this company has a fancy website and great product photography and marketing - but nothing more. The pen doesn't work, and they won't respond to an outreach for assistance. I'm returning the pen, and will seek another that simply works for now. Once again, in today's age, I must lower my expectations of the products that are available. WHY can't I find a quality product? I don't mind paying extra for QUALITY, but that term seems to mean little anymore.

This is lovely. I just got it, so can't speak to longevity, but the weight is really nice, as is the overall construction. Comes with 20 cartridges which is awesome, and a thing to use bottle ink, which I may or may not try. I'm going to find excuses to write notes just to use this, it's so smooth and my cursive already looks nicer. For 23 bucks can't beat it.

I am not one that writes reviews but in this case I had to make an exception. My son was wanting a nice fountain pen so I thought I would get him one. Wanting it to be business professional with classic style I came across these Wordsworth and Black pens. They had the style I was looking for and a nice assortment of colors. I got him the black with gold trim to match his ala mater, Colorado University (let's go Buffs !! :o) then I got one for his girlfriend (crimson red) and then I thought, what the hell, I'll get me one too. (silver and gold) They were a great price, Although not being able to hold it to get a feel for it I was still concerned with the quality. Though after receiving them I was happily amazed with the craftmanship of the pens. Quality and value that you would expect for a pen costing much more. The key aspects I look for is the design, weight, build, feel and writing quality. Wordsworth and Black hit it out of the park with all aspects. The design is classic opulence, conservative but still eye catching. The weight is evenly placed throughout the body of the pen, even when placing the cap on the back when using. The build and feel is the true exceptional aspect that stands out. I have had nice looking pens before but would be disappointed with the build quality. Not here, This pen is absolutely amazing. The body is solid and doesn't have that cheap tinny hollow feel or looseness in the lid or internal mechanisms. The lid has a secure snap that you feel as you press it closed. Hard to describe but you'll appreciate it when you get one for yourself to completely realize. Another thing is the attention to detail they have with the lid. They placed an insert inside the lid to prevent metal on metal or plastic on plastic contact keeping it from that scratchy feel when placing it on the back when using. But all this is useless if it can't do what it is meant to. And yes, it does that well also. The nib is firmly placed with a medium draw that allows for consistent writing. Along with the 6 cartridges that come with it and a converter for use with your own ink. This pen has everything you would desire. I assure you, This pen will be guarded whenever someone asks "can I borrow a pen?". I'll stare them down expecting it back because I know what they are thinking. :o)

I ordered the brushed brass variety in medium nib size, which unfortunately no longer seems to be available. The writing experience should be the same across the board though, and while I'm not expert on fountain pens just yet, has been wonderful! I've tried three different bottled inks so far, and had no issues with filling or ink flow whatsoever. I've also used one of each of the cartridges, and while the black ones work great, the blue ones have more of a tendency to bleed. I don't like blue ink though, so I didn't intend to use them much anyway, but if you plan on using cartridges keep that in mind. The cartridges and converter are also international standard, so it shouldn't be hard to find replacements. As for the pen body itself, AMAZING. This will only apply to the brass, copper (which I'm thinking about picking up as well), and MAYBE the chrome, the rest look to be plastic so I can't speak to those. It's pleasantly weighty, so if you like heavier pens this is for you. The cap cannot be posted without pushing down hard and risking scratches (I'm used to posting my caps so I did it out of habit and scratched it up a little, oh well, it adds to the character), and would be entirely too heavy for my preference that way, anyway. Just remember where you put the cap! Because of this, I consider this a desk pen, not an on-the-go pen. Thanks to this pen I now know I have a thing for brass pens, and heavy metal pens in general. A gorgeous desk piece at a great price point that should last for years to come!

It's been quite long since I bought a fountain pen and I was not very confident. This one is really really a good purchase. During our school days we were almost forced to use fountain pens to improve our writing and therefore we have worked with pens whose nibs had to be used in one certain way to smoothen out over months. Those were typical 'entry level' pens (you can get 5 of them in one $). I remember when the nibs became smooth, we got the speed back. After few years of such 'lessons' we could get introduced to the 'fancy' pens and appreciate them. This is one such pen which I appreciated from the very first write. It was that awesome feeling of smoothness which I was not really expecting from a new pen. The packaging is perfect and the 6 cartridges make it even better an experience. I'm not talking about casual writing as I was finishing those cartridges in around 2 days each. I waited for all the cartridges to get over (and then some more days) to write this review. I also like the fact that it comes with the converter. It's way safe that way as we don't have to stick to costly refills all the time. I have not tried it out yet (need to buy some ink first) - although it fits perfectly. I'd highly recommend this pen. Especially for the people who have used fountain pens for a long time. I'm not a collector of pens so I can't suggest from that angle, and it's a viewpoint of a user. If you're looking for a pen that you want to use every day, and you want that smooth experience of a fountain pen, this is undoubtedly the one to try out. I'm sure going to buy at least 1 more for myself. For a collector, the usability is probably secondary and maybe the history is more relevant. But for a user, it matters whether I can carry the pen confidently everywhere to use it. To add, I loved this color. I like the range of colors available, including a hot pink (a good candidate for gifting to my sister). I'm sure you'll feel the balance of weight being very good and comfortable. It 'feels' like you're holding something significant and at the same time it's so well balanced. I like the overall design of the pen and the locking mechanism of the cap (which is so important for a regular user). A very worthy buy. I'd highly recommend. Amazing nib. Very pleasurable writing device for sustained use.

Picture showed that it comes with both red and black ink cartridges but it only came with black ink ones. Ink leaks a little while capped. Dirtied my fingers when using. Pen is not bad and quite fine to use. Not really nice to use. Really average or below that To Amazon, you are a premium intermediary, please do supply only great and best products, otherwise let other suppliers do it. .

I bough the pen in silver gold trim. It came in a beautiful faux leather box with 6 cartridges of ink and a converter. The pen is beautiful. It has a premium look. Taking off the cap and putting it back on feels amazing - it doesn't quite click into place it's more of a snap - and is held securely in place. The cap can also be held securely on the back of the pen when writing. The pen I received was not like the one shown in the pictures. The nib says 'genius ridium' on it instead of having that nice "WB" signet shown in the picture. But that was just the beginning of my trouble. The pen itself wrote horribly. Skipping and scratching and spilling ink all over my finger. Closely examining the nib I could see that the slit was not cut straight but to the side slightly. Also the right side of the nib was bent higher then the left. Obviously, this is what caused the poor writing. I contacted the seller about this and the same day they told me they would be sending me a replacement. They did not ask me to return the original pen. The new pen arrived in about 2 business days. As soon as I took it out of the same nice faux leather box that the original came in I examined the nib. This time it looked straight. I popped in the ink and began to write. This 2nd pen writes beautifully. It's very smooth and glides on the paper like hot butter on a pan. It hardly ever skips. The only issue is it might be a little too wet. I'm new to fountain pens so I don't have so many others to compare this too but when I take off the cap it sometimes spits out so ink with it. I'll have to be careful and take of the cap gently. Overall, I'm very happy with the customer service I received and the quality of the second pen. For the price - the pen in a deal!

Ich muss sagen, ich habe nicht viel Erfahrung mit solchen Stiften. Deswegen Schreibqualität möchte ich nicht beschreiben. Ein Tintenroller gibt mir persönlich angenehmeres Schreibgefühl. Die Verarbeitung ist aber sehr gut. Man spürt einen soliden metallischen Stift im Hand. Es gibt keine Fingerabdrücke oder so, wie bei schwarzen lackierten Stiften. Alle teile passen zu einander wie gegossen. Bei dem Preis kann ich nichts anderes als 5 Sterne geben.

I expected a premium product for the price, but what I received was covered in scratches—completely unacceptable! To make things worse, when I returned it, the package was marked as “lost in transit,” and now I’m stuck without a product even after a month.Really shameful….Extremely disappointing experience. Not worth the money at all!
