I have a brand new, basic Zyxel router provided by my broadband service provider. WiFi is awful - will this device help?

I would say so. I have 2 Aruba AP11 access points covering my house and office space at the end of my garden. I have completely switched off the WiFi on the provide Zyxel

can you provide a link to a power supply for this device or is there one provided in the box?

There is no power supply in the box. Any 802.1af PoE injector will power the device. I bought a Ubquiti one when I bought mine.
