Orei 4K 18G HDMI Audio Extractor Converter - SPDIF + 3.5mm Output – HDMI 2.0 & HDCP 2.2 - Dolby Digital/DTS Passthrough CEC, HDR, Dolby Vision, HDR10 Support (HDA-912)

My home theatre setup consist of a 12 year old Denon AV Receiver and a projector that supports FHD. Over the years, the usage of multiple input sources such as DVD, Blu-Ray, Play Station & Nintendo ( children grew up) became less and less in usage and all the entertainment is now streamed through an Amazon Fire Stick. Recently, when my 12 year old projector finally quit working, I upgraded to a 4K projector and a 4K Fire Stick. With my Denon AVR supporting only 1080P, I first tried plugging the Fire Stick directly to the projector and use ARC through the 30 Feet HDMI cable to get audio through my Denon AVR. While this worked, the audio fidelity and level was very disappointing - maybe because of the 30 feet length of the HDMI cable from the projector to the AVR. Hence purchased the OREI 4K audio extractor from Amazon. Delivery: 5 Stars ( same day) Performance: 4 Stars Video: 5 Stars With the Amazon fire stick connected directly to the OREI Audio extractor, and the video signals pushed through the 30 feet HDMI cable to my projector, there is no noticeable picture quality degradation as compared to plugging the Fire stick directly to the projector. Audio: 4 Stars With the optical out from the OREI connected to my Denon AVR, the sound fidelity and levels are good and resolved my problem with the ARC. 4 Stars because there is still a very little bit but perceivable drop in audio fidelity and levels as compared to direct HDMI input to my AVR, but it’s almost 90% there. Overall, very happy with the device.

This is a nice product but doesn't support apple tv 4k with Epson projector

Does extract audio from HDMI to optical out the home theater/ Soundbar very well. 4K HDR video pass-through works as it should. But, if I try to do a audio pass-through to my TV the video from my 4K player goes haywire and the picture starts blinking along with artifacts. This happens only if the TV audio is set the TV speakers on my Sony x75l. I then have to switch to external Audio System option of my TV to stop this. So basically, can't watch anything using the video player using TV speakers while using this adapter/extractor. Without the extractor, no issues. But, we need the extractor to watch videos with dts/dts-HD audio with surround sound via the extractor passing through optical cable to the home theater because most branded TVs don't support dts passthrough.

Ok here it is. I got this delivered and before that i went through all videos regarding installation.One person have practically done a desktop connection but he is using vga cable from cpu to monitor. I am using a desktop with gpu so i didn’t want to skip the display and sound from gpu gives better video and sound quality and I have a samsung 2.1 soundbar model t42e xl and this one doesn’t have hdmi only bluetooth, usb for pendrive only and optical. I don’t know how the dolby works but as of now i don’t have dolby using fx sound application. Bluetooth is lagging so only option was orei hdmi extractor. Got this and till then my monitor was connected to gpu with a display cable and not hdmi. So Graphics card—display cable——monitor. Graphics card—hdmi—extractor input. Extractor output—optical cable—soundbar. On bitstream switch. Now there was no audio in my soundbar. Then i switched to Graphics card—hdmi—extractor input. Extractor output—hdmi—monitor. Extractor output—optical—soundbar. Switch to bitstream or 2 ch both working. You need two hdmi cables. Display cable is lying useless. Now the sound output was there from the soundbar. So far playing good. Dolby is not there dont know about the specs of the soundbar. Dolby is written but not how it works. So the product is working in great condition and it is useful for someone who has a soundbar with no hdmi or audio port. In that case optical is the best as crisp and clear sound is provided with high quality video.

Good product and packaging . Using it for sorround sound with toslink from z906 to hdmi connection with amazon firestick. Also provided 6 months extended warranty by brand . Stable connection

works properly . but uses HDMI 2.0 as advertised not HDMI 2.1 for the recent times kindly note. i extracted optical audio and 4K video simultaneously

I bought this device to extract HDMI audio to be sent to my old but very capable stereo amplifier. I was previously using my TV’s Audio Out to supply the amplifier but was not satisfied with the TV’s audio processing. From the point of view of audio quality, this device does a good job. There is a noticeable improvement in audio coming from the amplifier. However, this device has a big problem. After a month and a half of use, it began (and continues) to drop the incoming signal. The TV will not receive video and the amplifier will not receive audio for a few or even many signals. It is a random problem – an hour of flawless performance followed by disconnections every 10 seconds, or the other way around – but it occurs every time the device is used. Additionally, the audio extraction sometimes fails when the device begins working again – the amplifier doesn’t get sound when the device regains signal but the TV receives video – but either way it ruins the experience of sitting down with family to enjoy a movie. I can eliminate the problem very easily by unplugging the input HDMI cable from the Orei device and plugging it directly into the TV – the problem disappears instantly, and reappears quickly when the signal is again routed through this device. This proves that only this device in the chain is causing the problem but I bought a new, short HDMI cable that supports all the latest standards just to eliminate the cable as a potential cause of the problem, but the problem occurs irrespective of which cable is used. The frequent intermittency makes this device a waste of money which is a pity as the audio quality improvement is very nice when it does work as expected.

Have been using since couple of days with jio set-top-box and JBL Sb510 3.1 soundbar (via optic cable). As most of streaming platforms use Dobly Digital Plus for atmos, I am able to get the 5.1, atoms badge on OTT with this. Although product looks premium, compact, easy to fit and use, need to see how long does it last. Functions as what is promises to deliver. Even with all these, the price looks on expensive side.

I hate HDMI. This digital format is supposed to make our life easier but in reality it just protects movie and music distributors for copyrights. The problem is that often newer HDMI versions are not totally backward compatible. About 10 years ago I purchased a top of the line Panasonic 65" HD Plasma TV, one of the last plasma TV. Still today this TV is giving extraordinary color images and nice contrast ratio. I had also purchased, about 5 years earlier, a top of the line Denon receiver that had HDMI support ; but its HDMI was not compatible with the newer Panasonic TV HDMI ports; I resorted to use the TV as the HDMI switcher and all worked well until this year when I changed my HD Apple TV to a newer 4K Apple TV. Now the movies were not playing in Dolby 5.1 but only in the inferior Dolby Pro Logic II format. No matter what I tried, I could not have the movies play Dolby 5.1. But my Denon is capable of even higher formats such as Dolby TrueHD, EX and most flavors of DTS surround. This is why I had to buy this Orei extractor that enabled at least Dolby HD AC3 to play 5.1 true channels on my Denon. It does not provide the best Dolby Digital format that my Denon can decode but at least, until I change my receiver and TV, I will get a good enough quality out of my Apple TV 4K. The Orei extractor just worked perfectly out of the box. This extractor is very small but housed in a metal box and it feels solid. Good value for the money. Hoping it will last a few years.
