More helpful than words can express
I heard Karamo speaking on Elvis Duran this week and what he was saying hit me. So I quickly went on amazon and bought the book, I usually only read Sci-Fi but I have been having a rough go of things lately and this book really struck a chord. I appreciated the candid frank descriptions of Karamo's stuggles and how he was able to overcome and heal. RUN to read this book

Really enjoyed this
I read this during a weekend beach trip and really enjoyed it. I loved the style it was written in, it was like I could almost hear Karamo talking to me, telling his story. He included darker parts from his past that definitely surprised me and don't show him in the best light. He didn't have to include those things but I thought it was very brave and vulnerable. Through talking about some not so flattering parts of his past I found his story relateable, because we all have things in our past we aren't proud of. If we are lucky enough we can look back on them and use them as lessons for personal growth and how to live better going forward. Overall I found the book really enjoyable and inspiring, I can't wait to see more from him.

Excellent read from start to finish
Karamo tells very engaging, cathartic, and relatable stories in his new memoir. You always hear people say that everyone has a lot in common that they don't realize, but this book makes you really feel it. There were so many times where his story felt so connected to mine, in theme at least. The chapter about religion and his friend Mateo took me back to when I had those same feelings as he had for another boy at 8, something I didn't realize until reading this. It was the first time I had thought about that time in my life in almost 15 years. His story of abuse was also relatable, but from the opposite perspective. I have been in relationships where my boyfriend was emotionally abusive and continued to intrude on my life well after the fact, and the way karamo described what he was doing was painfully relatable, and gave me the courage to say and believe that what happened to me was abuse. I enjoyed this front to back, and I highly recommend it.

Moving and Inspirational
AMAZING.I love Queer Eye. I love the Fab 5. My life is better because Karamo, Bobby, Tan, Jonathan and Antoni are in it, but I gotta admit Karamo became my favorite as soon as the show started. His advice, positivism and encouragement, are inspiring and so important. Of course as soon as I saw he was publishing a book, I HAD TO GET IT and read it.Karamo's story was so much more than I expected. If you've watched Queer Eye, you see he is a positive guy who believes in speaking out, expressing our feelings and taking care of our mental health. I would've never guessed everything he went through before the show.I don't want to get into details because you've got to read this book and find out everything from his own words. But his life was no easy. He lived tough moments and yet, he's managed to grow, learn and thrive. He is truly a genuine example of what an empathic human being is. Instead of saying, 'I went through bad times, you should, too', he says, 'I went through bad times and I want to help you. I WILL help you so you can do better, because you deserve it'.I loved loved loved this book. And I love love love Karamo. Thank you for sharing your story with us.

Definitely feel like I got to know Karamo better
You can decide for yourself whether or not you end up thinking that he's even more wonderful than he seems on Queer Eye; I do like how he's defined "culture" on the show. His life story is relatively interesting, but not dramatically so. It works well that he organizes the chapters into topics that are arranged only loosely in chronological order rather than in a strict chronological telling of his life journey. I enjoyed learning about his experience working as a social worker. I think he may have missed an opportunity to use this book to help expand people's knowledge about addiction, more specifically recovery. He mentions wishing that he had known more about rehab when he probably needed it, but I think readers would benefit from some basic info about how rehab works, and 12-step programs such as AA, NA (narcotics), CA (cocaine), etc. Much like he does a good job of providing some info about suicide prevention without making it onerous to the reader. The best chapter is the one in which he describes the auditions for Queer Eye, his vision of his role on the show, and the chemistry between the Fab 5. Overall, a quick, interesting read.

Real, raw, beautiful, insightful
When I first saw Karamo on Queer Eye, I thought he was a sage from the start--that he'd always had his incredible wisdom and emotional intelligence. But through this book, it was so powerful for me to see his humanity, that he wasn't born with all his skills, that he had to cultivate them in himself through a difficult journey, but stayed positive with a focus on healing, health, and getting to the emotional root of situations - and his helping himself led to helping so many others all over the world. He is amazing.

Deep and real
Karamo does a wonderful job of sharing his reality, while acknowledging that it might not be someone else's reality. He shows how honesty, integrity and perseverance are character traits that we must all find a way to expose and value. I've never seen Queer Eye and had never heard of him. However, I heard his book plugged in the radio one morning and it sparked interest. Great story Karamo!

My only complaint is it's too short!
Karamo is both delightful and insightful. His warmth and the personal growth he has been through make this a compelling story. I listened to the Audible version and was so glad the author read it himself. Recommended.

Emotional rollercoaster
I really enjoyed this book, it was nice to think about my own identity and the way my perceptions affect my behaviours. It was also nice to get a really warts and all autobiography when the writer is really open about their past and faultsThe four stars are because it was a lot more harrowing that I expected, i got it to relax and it is not that kind of book!

Great reading
It’s a really good book. You can feel and read the trip of Karamo to be the man he is today. He is very self conscious about who he is - flaws and qualities and he wants to help others to see they’re best self and work towards be better everyday.I definitely recommend it.

Great book - but not in the condition expected
I really recommend Karamo's book - it's a compelling story full of his honest insights into self development. The seller (betterworldbooks) didn't specify that the book would arrive with no jacket and with huge stains on the cover, so I was disappointed as I didn't consider this to be "used but good condition". I contacted the seller but they didn't respond. Therefore I wouldn't recommend buying from betterworldbooks.

Great background and catch up for QE fans
Brief, candid, honest, and positive auto biography that explains a lot. Encourages and inspires authenticity. Wonderful to see someone real, bold, ambitious, and a fighter live ' "God is love" which leaves no room for judgement (condemnation)'.
