Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Certification Intensive Review: Fast Facts and Practice Questions

Purchased this book after needing more review questions and hearing great things about the FNP version. So far, it's easy to read and concise with all the questions in the back. The answers also contain explainations, which is a major plus, as it helps save time looking up info, etc.Only thing is, I'm not sure why the adult gero version costs significantly more than the FNP book. I will write another review after I finish.******UPDATE******Passed the AANP AGNP and used this book 2 weeks before I sat for boards for most of my questioning. At first I tried reading the book page by page, but I couldn't do it since I already did the FHEA review and wanted to get into actual questions. So I flipped to the back where the practice questions are located (there are some within the chapters but the answers are right there on the same page or opposite to, so it's hard to ignore unless you cover it up prior. Took me about a week or week and a half to get through it all) and did anywhere from 20-200/day. If I needed, I flipped to the chapter where I needed some more facts (but the rationales are all also in the back-not right next to the question but further back in their own section) then read the "Danger Signs" and "Exam Tips" which give you a quick and dirty "SparkNote" type review (you remember Sparknotes? Yup, used that back in the day!)I looked at the App that stems from this book and it is similar questions - so either buy the book or buy the App in my opinion...PROS:concise, easy to read sections broken up with bolding, spacing, etc; fair number of question similar to what I feel mimics the boards. Got me to see a pattern of the most common problems I need to know for the test by asking questions about various topics in different ways using diagnosis, assessment, eval style questions. Just for the questions alone, as other reviews I have read said, IT IS WORTH IT!CONS:All of the book is black and white so it's not good for derm pictures, or really any pictures in my opinion. Some errors on answers (they are pretty obvious ones) for rationale/correct answer section. Also noticed some outdated info as this book was last published in 2013 or 2014. Good luck everyone! You will feel so good when you are done!!

The best prep book hands down!!!! I took the ANCC boards July 2015, and passed on the first try. Yayyyy!!!! This was the ONLY prep book I used, period. No review classes, no fancy sessions, none of the more popular books, just me and my Leik :-). I will tell you this, this book became my bible! I carried it every where with me, studied the entire book, and answered all of the review questions in the back. Preparation period for me was approximately 8weeks in total. I studied for an average of 2-4hours a day, every other day... I answered the practice questions 50 at a time (book has a total of 600+), and went back to review and read about the questions I missed. I find that I commit the information to memory better this way. The definite pros of this book are the exam tips, fast facts, and mnemonics included in each chapter. More importantly, information presented was concise and straight to the point. No unnecessary and unwanted information included. Additionally, the section on "ethics & legal" in the book is adequate for the non clinical questions that you will fond on the exam. Be prepared, because the exam is LOADED with these!!! I will save that for another topic.... Cons of this book are the few typos and questionable answers to some of the review questions. Please be advised that this review is my opinion and my opinion only! lol. Save yourself the money and time by avoiding expensive review classes and books...

I graduated from an Adult Gero Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program on 5/9/14 and took the AANP certification exam on 5/28/14 and passed. I borrowed the Barkley CDs and accompanying review book from a colleague, but listening to someone lecture on a CD just wasn't my cup of tea and I didn't even bother to crack the cover on the Barkley accompanying review book. I thought this review book was excellent!!! It was concise and very comprehensive. I probably got through about 180 of the review questions and read about half of the sections in the book. This book really prepared me for the certification exam! My only regret was not beginning my studying sooner because I felt that if I could have read all of the sections in this review book that it would have helped me do even better on the exam. I'd say about a third of my classmates took the Barkley review course and spent $300-400 to take it. I know we all study and prepare differently, but my suggesstion would be to spend the $35 or $40 for this book and read it through. I don't think you necessarily have to get through all 629 practice test questions, but definitely try to read all the sections. Save your money on the review course and try this first. Again, I thought this book was extremely well written and very comprehensive and truly believe it helped me pass the exam the first time around!

I used this book as a review before my ACNP ANCC board exam (I know this isn't an acute care book). I liked this book because it was a good review and refresher for me of things I needed to remember. For more acute care based information I had two other books I studied from. I feel that any exam taker should not focus their studies on only one book and should have a few to study from for a well rounded experience.If the person who I bought this book from ever reads my review, I want them to know it was very nice to see the note they wrote me telling me that this was the book they used to pass their exam and good luck to me. When you're under stress even a small note like that is great words of encouragement and I used it as my bookmark!Thank you, and I did pass my exam as well :)
