Sony D-NF400 ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player with Digital AM / FM / TV / Weather Tuner

I have purchased Sony CD Walkman products before and am very pleased with the one I have just received. I wanted it only to play CD's and MP3's and so far this product is working just great. Would purchase again from this seller.

The Ugly: The SonicStage software is garbage. I popped a CD in. It was able to go to some web site to retrieve artist/track info for my CD. But every time I hit the ATRAC convert button it crashes on me. This stupid thing actually made me waste time reading the manual. The good: For the MP3 playback it works pretty well. You can organize files in folders (8-levels max) and the display of the playing track is changeable. It allows full track names to scroll horizontally. Under [Menu] there's a "sound" option that allows you to change the LOW/MID/HIGH frequency wave pattern for sound quality customization. Aside from SOFT/ACTIVE/HEAVY and default NONE. I really like this feature. The radio/TV/Weather feature works pretty well. And there's a auto-shutoff timer you can set for the use of the player in 10, 20, ... minutes interval. The bad: Notice that there's a "loading time" for even regular CD's. takes around 10 seconds from the time you pop the disc in, hit play, to it actually playing a regular CD. For MP3 it's reasonable consider the amount of stuff it needs to load for initialization. AC/DC 4.5-volt power adapter not included in the US/Canada version.

I wanted this product because it was advertised to play 400 plus songs on a single cd. It may be able to do this if the software for the conversation was included. Unfortunately it was not, so the seller graciously excepted my request for a refund after I shipped it back. I didn’t have to pay to send it back. That made my shopping experience good.

the usual hard to open calculated to annoy a person to the ultimate frustration. you don't need this stay clear of it

This is great to take on bus trips. Like I can play a CD series. The control buttons are easy to learn. I'm still trying to get the knack of putting my controls on hold because that saves aggravation that I'll press a button and mess up where I am on the CD.
