Every Child Needs These Knives
My 3 year old loved these for cutting her own soft fruits, veggies and cheese for real! I skipped buying the wooden food toys with the velcro and let her go to town on her own. They are sharp but, with proper supervision, it's virtually impossible to break the skin. Common slips with these knives may be painful, but not devastating. All mishaps we encountered were certainly a lesson in listening, handling and cutting technique, as many foods landed off the cutting board or on the floor. Now at 4, she's often asks to 'help prep and cook dinner' so I will let her chop away! The cut isn't the cleanest, but what do you expect from a plastic knife? - - I actually love that sometimes she can pick out her cut pieces in the meal. As a mom, my favorite aspect is they work significantly better than a butter knife for cutting up foods directly on her plate without leaving scratches. My only downfall is that because they are plastic some foods will certainly stain almost forever -- such as beets, tomatoes, strawberries etc. even when washing immediately afterwards. The only other cleaning issue is obviously the serrated edge, since it's plastic food residue sticks... I recommend either washing directly after use or setting aside a new toothbrush to scrub it with.

Awesome!!!!
My children were so inspired by "Masterchef Jr" that they wanted to start cooking us dinner...experimenting with whatever we have available. They have made some truly inspired dishes and I am so proud of them! I was so nervous with them cooking in the kitchen because they would have to use OUR very sharp knives to do all the chopping/cutting. I was so worried that they would accidentally slice one of their fingers open. I came across these and thought to myself, what a wonderful idea! However, I wasn't sure they would actually perform well. Those concerns were quickly extinguished the first time my children used them. Not only do they slice through meat, veggies and fruit....but they will even cut a head of lettuce and hard things like carrots with ease. My daughter has had the knife "slip" a few times and come down on her FINGERS instead of the item she is trying to slice. If she had been using our knives she would have sliced her hand/fingers open...or possibly even slice them OFF!! These knives might make a mark when they are brought down on a hand/finger....but they have never broken through the skin!! We have used them so many times and every time we get them out I am so happy that I took a chance and purchased them! Now my children can have free reign of the kitchen and I don't ever have to worry about trips to the ER!! They also use them when we eat things like steak so they can now cut their OWN meat! I would HIGHLY recommend these knives to ANYONE that has children that want to start helping out in the kitchen! Fabulous idea and invention!! My children are also extremely happy for them b/c they can now be "grown ups" in the kitchen! I can't wait to taste all the meals they will be making us...with these knives....in the future!! Who knows, maybe by being able to start this young (ages 8 & 10) they will one day become highly sought after chefs!! And I will owe it ALL to this product...and MasterChef Jr!! :)

Great for kids wanted to learn to cook
I bought these for my 8 and 9 year old for Christmas and they loved them. I work as a professional chef and my kids see me cook all the time. They wanted to help me out in the kitchen more and learn some knife skills. I wanted to make sure they had something not too sharp to practice with. These were perfect. Only complaint is there's only so much you can cut with these as they arent very sharp and are very thick. It can cut apples and bread but not eith precision. The cuts are very jagged and not so pretty to make a presentation with. I knew that purchasing these that the knives weren't going to be the best and cut perfectly sonthat didnt bother me too much. My kids get good use out of them and I don't have to worry about them loosing a finger.

Good intermediate knife for kids
My kids (5&7) are really enjoying using these in the kitchen. A good, safe knife for practice chopping. It works much better for solid items, like carrots, or cucumbers than the lettuce knife or a good old butter knife (best for little ones to use on soft foods). These are serrated but not very sharp so kids need to push down with some force/use a sawing motion at times. I feel at ease letting my kids chop away with this without watching them like a hawk every second & they are learning the motions of safe knife handling. Iโd say this is perfect intermediate knife to use before trying with the real deal for older children.

Great for preschoolers!
We got this set after seeing our friends' 3-year old daughter using them. My son is three years old and last year we got him a Pampered Chef kid's knife, which is a great introductory knife, but it literally can be used to cut bananas... or something of similar consistency. It also would cut with either side, so we had a hard time teaching him proper knife skills. He wanted to help us with prepping the salads - the cucumbers, peppers, etc., so I needed something better. This works pretty darn well. It's sharp enough that it can cut through a cucumber, and if used incorrectly could hurt, but is also blunt enough that it would probably not break skin. The non-sharp side is blunt enough no kid could ever mistake it for the knife side. I like that it has 3 sizes - my son can pick and choose which one he wants. He loves helping, and this is a great way to include him in the cooking process.

My kid WILL be able to cut her own food before she leaves for college!!
It's no joke. My husband and I know someone whose mom was still cutting up his food for him when he came home from college. So, you can't imagine our pride that our four year old daughter has been able to cut her meat for the past three nights in a row, using the small knife in this set. Not to mention that she has become my proud sous chef, cutting vegetables (with surprising precision using the larger and medium sized knives) when we're prepping for dinner. A wonderful learning tool! Great for small hands. Wash well in the dishwasher. Sharp enough to really cut, safe enough to teach (with supervision)! And the best thing is getting to work with my kid in the kitchen and tell her honestly that she has really helped out! :) And of course... I'm still proud that we have accomplished this at 4 years old, rather than you know... 24.

A great starter knife set for chopping soft fruits, veggies or other easily cut foods.
My three year old (yes, I know these say age 5 and up) loves to cook and help me in the kitchen. I've been letting him practice with plastic knives spreading jelly and cutting bananas or his sandwich in half. I wanted him to have a more realistic knife to help foster his love of cooking and helping and I found the Curious Chef line. I must say, I'm pretty in love with just about everything this company sells. What a great way to help kids get excited not just about food prep, but also in eating what they've helped with. Now, out of the three knives, my son will only use the smallest at this time, and under VERY CLOSE SUPERVISION. Though the knife is "kid friendly," (and again, I know my son is younger than the recommended age) it is serrated and it is a knife. I understand the possibility that he could cut himself. But, the knife cuts easily on the bananas he has for lunch or breakfast (wow, does a banana he cut himself taste so much better!) as well as easily cuts tortillas for quesadillas, or his sandwich. A friends bought a different brand and has complained that the knife really only presses down on the food and squashes it. This knife definitely cuts. Currently he will only be cutting very soft fruits and only when I am right next to him to supervise every move, but he is having a blast and I love watching him feed his curiosity and love for cooking. And as he gets older and gains confidence and skill, he will be able to chop more and help me more and more in the kitchen. Now, if the sizes of the knives were different, like a pairing knife as the smallest, then I would be over the moon yelling from the roof tops about this set. Ha!

Kids love helping mum!
Again another item worth buying to teach your kids how to cut without putting their little fingers in jeopardy! My kids help me all the time! They actually ASK to help me cut fruit.. Or anything else for that matter haha.. They love cooking and helping mom and it's ' tools ' like these knives that make it happen. I would not let my four year old (now five) cut with my sharp knives but these are perfect. Comes in three sizes and it will Even cut an apple! Great product! Wish I could buy the whole line in Canada!

Good, sharp but mostly safe
They are sharp, which is good. Good on things up to the hardness of an apple. They can cut flesh but obviously not anywhere near the damage a real knife can do. Great for cooking with your kid. We use them with our 2.5y daughter. Don't know why they can't just sell one though.
