Squish #3: The Power of the Parasite

Ordered the series for my son. He read a copy from his school's library, and had to have personal copies at home.

Graphic novels are a great transition for beginning readers, since they are visual like picture books, but have more text and vocabulary, like advanced reader books. The text is also in nice manageable blurbs. And they promote independent reading because it is hard for them to follow along when someone else reads aloud to them.Plus from a social standpoint, graphic novels and comics are great for the concept of thought versus speech, to show that people may say one thing while thinking something else, or not say something they're thinking. They are also full of different emotions and facial expressions, and great for the idea that facial expressions may match or not match thoughts or words.

Love the squish comic series. My 6 year old loves to read them

These were really fun books for my son, who is 9. The only 'problem' with them is they are so readable, he finished the whole series in a weekend! Super cute, though. The science experiments at the end are a nice bonus, he has enjoyed doing some of these.

I've been working really hard to get my son (7) into reading and thought comic books might be the way to go. Needless to say, he loves the Squish books and actually asks for me to order the next in the series. They're good stories with fun drawings that actually get my son excited about reading. I only wish comic books weren't such quick reads.

This book is average+. The problem with Amazon is that it's a 5 point scale. If it were 1 to 100, I would give this book a C+ (76-78).
