Not what they used to be. Total loss of quality.
I have been wearing this brand of commando sock for at least fifteen years and they lasted so well that five pairs would last for at least five years, these five pairs being my only socks and I have sung their praises to anyone who'd listen over the time I've worn them. After my last set began to finally wear out I ordered 3 new pairs in June 2018. All three pairs are misshapen, oversized, poorly made and a total disappointment. I have attached a picture of one of the pairs after just a few months use. The old socks wore so well they never even ended up looking as bad ones after many years of wear and tear. I feel like this is an end of an era for me. These newer ones bunch up in random places, slip down my feet inside my boots because they are misshapen and are uncomfortable from the moment I put my boots on. Without my boots on the toe end is all baggy and flaps around. The soles used to be thick enough that I would wear them indoors as one would their slippers. These are no good for that either. I'm really sad having to write this review. I'll have to look for another sock as good as old Commando 3000's but they are a tough act to beat. As I say, the end of an era. :-(

No longer British-made and the quality is a poor second to what they used to be.
These used to be fantastic socks until the last year or so when they stopped making them in the UK. I was very disappointed - the sizing was no longer right (small) and the quality is poor in comparison. Such a pity as these used to be one of those things that were made well and lasted. One thing that really bugged me was with the label they tried to give the impression that these were still made in the UK by having a Union Jack and "British Heritage" on the front...I contacted HJ Hall and asked them where they are made and...they did not reply.

Socks are warm and seem durable but too large and loose
Seem to be good socks, though only time will tell their durability. Seem to be warm and comfortable for walking, ..13-11-2016 I would like to amend this review, as after wearing the socks for several weeks, I have found that though warm and seemingly hard wearing, they are very large and loose on my feet. I am a shoe size UK 9 1/2, and although I found the socks a bit large at first I thought that after a few washes they would shrink a little. instead they are worse. I ordered size 6 to 11 but these seem to be 11 + and are just falling off my feet, and wrinkling up inside my boots, which are UK 9. .Because of the size I have amended my review to two stars.

Cheap nasty
Ordered these socks as previously I have walked many miles wearing them. Unfortunately the ones sent to me are shockingly poor quality. After a 5 mile walk I developed a hole in 1 sock, and both of them became so baggy you could hardly tell they were socks. I contacted the returns thing and got no response.... So here I am giving an honest appraisal of experience with this company.

H J Hall Commando HJ300 Mens Socks Airfoce and Navy
I bought these since they are UK manufactured and with a good pedigree, how wrong I was. On receipt there were threads which looked “pulled”. Since then the top edge of the socks has started to unravel and they look like not lasting long at all, very disappointing indeed, cannot recommend you buy them, the supplier suggested I return them to the manufacturer, so much for a six month guarantee!Avoid.

We Like Wool
At last my feet and legs are warm indoors and outside in this cold weather.70% wool is the answer. Length is long, nearly an inch below the knees.Thickness is good. They stay up! Rather thick stitching at the toes but the feet are long enough (size 8.5 shoes) for it not to be an annoyance.

Wool rich and wonderful!
My partner needed a couple of pairs of warm socks now the weather is getting cooler and wetter, so when the socks arrived, I was delighted not only with the forest green colour, yet the wool rich texture too. They are adequately thick, with a generous snug fit - some wool-rich socks can be cumbersome to wear in boots, especially if the yarn concentrated; yet these are 'spot on' in terms of their durability and comfort. These are definitely high-end socks perfect for outdoor activities, yet also for casual wear in winter months. Delighted all round with product and highly recommend!
