Review: Outstanding Resource for Weight Loss - Charles D'Angelo's "Think and Grow Thin" is an outstanding resource for those who are serious about wanting to lose weight and improve their health. Charles' personal story will touch and inspire you and his practical strategies will help you achieve your goal. He has a great style of writing - very engaging - and the book is filled with strategies, success stories, menu plans, recipes, and exercise tips. Most importantly, his approach will change the way you THINK about food. I have two good friends who have been successful working with Charles - both lost over 70 pounds. I had just about given up hope of ever losing this weight. BUT I've been following Charles' plan just over 12 weeks and have lost 40 pounds (halfway to my goal!) I highly recommend this book and his plan for anyone who wants to lose weight. It works! UPDATE March 2013 I'm coming up on the one year mark in a few weeks. Total weight loss was 82 pounds. Have kept the weight off - by being vigilant and by working out a ton. This plan works folks. When you decide you're ready to lose, Charles can help. Definitely recommend working with Charles one-on-one if you can. If that won't work, pick up the book, find a friend to help hold you accountable, and get on the road to health and fitness. Working with Charles changed my life dramatically. . .and if I can do it, you can do it. UPDATE: March 2014 Yep . . close to the two year mark. I am about 5 pounds over my goal weight. Still. When I have a few pounds creep up, I go back on the plan. My life has TOTALLY changed as a result of working with Charles. I spend lots of time at the gym now - because I want to! I will say it again: If I can do it, YOU can do it. Just stay focused on the goal, and stay committed. The pounds will fall off. Review: Excellent Book for Weight Loss - "Think and Grow Thin" is one of the best weight loss books on the market. The author Charles D'Angelo goes beyond what you should eat and focuses on mindset instead. The majority of the book shares how to change your thinking to help you achieve the body you desire. Many of us eat junk food because we get pleasure from it. Charles shows you how to rethink that pleasure and realize that eating the wrong foods is actually a source of misery. Whereas eating the right foods can not only make us healthy but also make us happy. Charles is young but wise beyond his years. As you read the book it is like having a private coach that roots you on and tells you what to do and more importantly how to think. The diet in the book is pretty strict. You are to eat the same thing for 2 weeks in a row. Personally, I think it would have been better if he gave other options. Also I think he should have been clearer on the nutrition facts. For example, in the maintenance section he says "1 portion of carbs" but it is not spelled out what a portion is. Regardless if you can stick to a strict regime, his diet plan looks like it would be very effective. And if you can't he does say no matter what plan you follow if you have the right mindset (which he teaches) you can succeed. The exercise plan is spelled out but again I think it would have been good if he had given other options. Essentially though, even if you don't follow his diet and exercise regime, the book can help change your thinking so you can do well on other plans. This book could be used with South Beach Diet, Weight Watchers etc. It is that powerful. Just to note - The formatting on this book for Kindle is excellent. There are recipes but not that many, so the recipes are easy to find on the Kindle. I am very happy with the Kindle version. The book is a must if you struggle with weight and need help with the mental aspect of it. Excellent read!

A comprehensive guide to weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle
I have been among the fortunate ones to have worked directly with Charles in my goal towards a healthy weight. I still have some ways to go in my journey but am glad I decided to take that initial step... it has been a very rewarding experience thus far! The book validates the reason I enjoy working with Charles. It presents a commonsensical approach to shedding weight while focusing on altering your relationship with food and eating habits. I dread any weight loss program that emphasize on avoiding an entire food group or one that says its okay to pile up on chicken wings and cheese-burgers as long as you drop the bread. To any sensible person that would seem just plain dangerous and unsustainable in the long run. Instead Charles' approach, which is detailed clearly in the book, is systematic and safe. It provides you with the tools to attain your goal in a healthy way (plenty of grilled lean chicken, turkey, fish, protein shakes, nuts, fruits etc.) and then maintain that weight while eating a variety of good food that provide you with the nutrients you need without sacrificing on taste. I was initially drawn to Charles program when I heard of his personal experience with weight and how he struggled to make a change and get to where he is at now. And that is no small feat! But after embarking on this new journey it's quite clear that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a habit that one needs to strive for. This book definitely provides the motivation, reasoning and the necessary tools to achieve it!

Think & Grow Thin
Overall, I liked this book. Charles is very positive & encouraging. He has many strategies for dealing with food issues. The biggest downfall of this book is the diet plan. He recommends eating the same menu for 14 straight days w/o deviation. That may be good for someone who is severely addicted to food & needs a rigid structure. However, for the rest of us, it may be too strict.

My first book in years and I read it with in a week...
I could not put this book down! I downloaded the iPOD version and still have been re-reading sections. Why 4 stars? All last week I prepped myself up to do the eating plan. I think he calls it the "scary easy" plan. It looked easy but it really isn't easy for me. I first had trouble finding the liquid flaxseed that he wants you to take. I didn't know the pharmacy wouldn't carry it instead you have to get the liquid version from a place like GNC. I do like the times that he spells out to eat, but the food is hard to do with someone that never cooks. If I do cook, I need it simple easy... The shake is easy, lunch is okay but the options for dinner is not for a person like me on the go. I eat lunch and dinner at work(work 12hrs) If I tried to cook brown rice on a Sunday that won't get me to Friday eating the same meal over and over again. I like the idea, but I need something that I can actually make quick at night for the next day. Cooking chicken/fish at home is hard to do in advance; for you cookers that has the time it probably is easy, but yesterday was the first time I used the inside of my oven in months to cook chicken breast. After weighing, cooking and then doing the dishes I was exhusted. An hour plus of time I'd rather use on a treadmil. I totally forgot to make the rice when I was all done (sigh). I'd rather buy perdue selects or a rotisserie chicken and peal off the fat, but that quick option is not an option with the plan. It might give me the same benefit without me being the one that cooks it but it's not following his plan since he wants you to cook the chicken at home. I know to avoid chicken smoothered but there gotta be some healthy alternatives.....:) I know I don't eat totally healthy all the time to why I need this structure, but some quick meals are healthy otherwise I would even be heavier than I am now. Well put it this way; I have been around the same weight for 8 years. If I was eating horrible all the time I should be 80lbs heavier by now. If there was a way to simplify the plan for us folks that don't cook (buying a rotisserie chicken and use the meat for example) then I'd be golden. Working so much bites into so much free time that the little I have I'd rather move around. That said;I read the previous reviews which is why I bought the book. I really enjoyed the way its written, the exercise program and most of the meal plan. I would recommend this as a great buy if you want to learn and lose weight like me-BUT if your on the go the meal plan isn't as super easy as it could be. Hope this helps!

His track record speaks for itself; This book's ideas established his track record.
A personal friend of mine lost 90 pounds training with Charles D'Angelo in person, but this book is an excellent resource for those who maybe can't afford one-on-one sessions. What impresses me most about Charles is how many people he has helped and how respected he is, despite his age (he's about 15 years younger than I'd have guessed). His diet plan (dumbed down) is basically "eat the same healthy things every day". This diet plan for me would be impractical (given that I travel a lot for work), but I am restricting the different types of food I eat when I am at home, and just being mindful about portion sizes when I'm on the road. I've lost 10 pounds over the past two weeks. The secret of losing weight is the path of least resistance. How can you lose weight effectively, and make it as NOT-painful or, ideally, as "automatic" as possible? You have to answer that question for yourself. Charles' clients have found success in eating the same thing every day, which eliminates the guesswork of what to eat, when to eat, and makes grocery shopping easy. Kudos to Charles for including quotes from inspirational people, like success coach Tony Robbins. I believe that filling your head with positive/motivational things throughout your weight loss process helps keep you going in the right direction, and I for one can attest to Tony Robbins as an excellent source of motivation for any kind of self-improvement, including weight loss. After listening to him speak, I can do anything. In short, if you can't afford sessions with D'Angelo, buy his book. If you CAN afford sessions with D'Angelo, do so, and buy this book. Even if following the diet to a "T" seems too daunting for you, you can modify it a bit into something that not only "works for you", but, most importantly, something that "works".

You are ready for the Journey!
TODAY IS DEC 12, 2011. SPEAKING from a personal "Journey with Charles" AS A PATIENT since July 1, 2011, I MYSELF am a physician and surgeon in practice for 20+ years AND have tried multiple weight loss and life control routines. . CHARLES D'ANGELO helped ME to gain control over my eating and its effect on my life, again I reiterate, HELPED ME to do it and realize the proper techniques! As he states, he EMPOWERS YOU and gives you all the right tools for success because yes, ONLY YOU CAN DO IT!! I HAVE LOST 81 LBS SINCE JULY 1, 2011 WITH ONLY PROPER DIET AND LIMITED SENSIBLE EXERCISE. It's ALL IN THE BOOK IN WONDERFUL AND EASY TO FOLLOW DETAIL but let me EMPHASIZE: 1) ACCOUNTABILTY !!!!!! 2) DON'T THINK ABOUT FOOD ALL THE TIME BUT BE PREPARED, HAVE THINGS READY FOR CONSUMPTION WITHIN A BUSY SCHEDULE AND LIMIT YOURSELF TO THOSE PORTIONS 3) EXERCISE IS VITAL COMPONENT BUT MOST IMPORTANT ARE THE THINGS YOU EAT, THEIR QUANTITIES AND SPACED CONSUMPTION; WITH HIS PLAN YOU ARE SATIATED WITH NORMAL FOODS EASY TO OBTAIN IN ANY GROCERY DON'T PUT OFF THE JOURNEY ANY LONGER. THERE ARE YEARS OF PRODUCTIVE HAPPINESS FOR THOSE WHO DARE TO ALLOW THEMSELVES THE OPPORTUNITY. YOU CAN GAIN CONTROL. CHECK IT OUT!!

Not a nice person
His book offers some mainstream advice. But beware if you’re considering getting sucked into his counseling. I used to live in his area and I fell for it. For $thousands I got to be falsely accused weekly of not following his program closely enough. He insisted I would lose at a certain rate and acted all surprised when I failed to do that. No, sir, postmenopausal women are just different from yourself and need much fewer calories to lose and will lose slowly—it’s just a fact. I thought I would get motivation and personalized help but I was frankly offended and felt like an idiot for paying him. Years later I got gastric sleeve in Mexico and it’s been the perfect solution for me.

Not for me
Never really got into this book. Not my kind of self help book. But I am sure it will suit some people. Very much about the author and not of a personal help to me.

What works read and you will benefit like others I know!
So far I have learned so much and I can only benefit from reading further - this book is life changing for me when so many others have failed. I'm not a reader by any means but I can't put this book down, I bought two copies so I can give one to a family member that can benefit also - and I should have order more copies as this can benefit everyone it teaches you without all these diet fads and pills and expensive junk and believe me when I tell you I have tried them all and had very little success and when I did have success only to gain back when I changed or wondered from their pills or plans at all. this book is a win win for everyone. Check back with me in a few months and see my success. Debbie in Brantford

An interesting take on weight loss
The program is easy to follow. It focuses more on your mindset towards weight loss than the diet itself. It was very informative and really enjoyable.
