Works great, not sure how loud it is but seems loud. I think it’s louder with the intercom than it is speaking directly into the back. Make sure to buy enough batteries.

I ordered this megaphone shortly after having an argument with the "owners" of the used car lot next to my house. These are the kids of the real owners who have retired but still actually OWN the lot. But that's besides the point. These people keep parking their overflow of junk cars in the no parking section of my street blocking traffic. The lot looked hideous with overgrown brush. So when The blight control officers came out to an anonymous tip to tell them to move their cars and cut down the brush, they started to to curse and insult us, us being my girlfriend and I. I can take verbal abuse, but my girlfriend shouldn't be subject to it and I was taught to not allow that to happen to the people I care about without defending them. So naturally an argument ensued. The argument turned into an ugly screaming match where I was accused of being a bum and was called many worse things. My throat ached from my verbal retaliation and found myself thinking, that surely there has to be a better way the next time I find myself in this kind of situation. That's when it hit me... "Megaphone." I've been waiting for a reason to use this bad boy since I got it. Of course when it first came I ran around the house letting my inner 10 year old self quote D-Generation X, letting everyone on the block know if they weren't down with this, then I had two words for them. Today I came home to the street being blocked and the brush pile sitting in the empty lot between the car lot and my house, that the land bank owns, that hasn't been removed since the blight officers came weeks ago. The time for megaphone action was now. I grabbed the trusty Pyle and demanded to know why the street was blocked yet again, and when the brush was going to be cleared. I was given the middle finger. I boomed through the megaphone with more questions. When he would try to answer I would activate the handy alarm or the programmed midi song feature. Being crushed this time around with decibels and my not even having to raise my voice he got frustrated and gave up. He tried to take a phone call and couldn't hear it over the screeching wail of the alarm. Defeated he got into his car and left. This is possibly the best 20 dollars I've ever spent.

For the price, you really can't beat this megaphone. It uses a million batteries, so that's obnoxious, but it has great volume and fairly decent clarity when speaking through it at full volume. The "Jingle Bells" song uses the most horrendous, high-pitched notes that will make anyone cry (and the hair on your back stand)! Sometimes I find it more effective to play that song than to speak in it when it comes to grabbing people's attention. The siren works well too, and at full volume can be heard from a great distance away. A minor annoyance is that it is hard to tell if a button is pressed or depressed. There isn't much variation between the two. The problem with this is when you press the power button, if one of the other buttons is pressed (song or siren) it will immediately start to play that sound at whatever volume your slider is set at. I wish there was a "trigger" function that could prevent this. So now, I'm trying to train myself to always turn the volume off after each use, and check the buttons individually.

I am a soccer coach and needed a megaphone to replace an older 25 watt (much more expensive megaphone). This 40 watt Pyle megaphone was exactly what I was looking for. I did not want to spend a lot of money for something that I would only occasionally use, so I decided to give this megaphone a try. The description on Amazon says the sound will travel 800 yards and the box says 1,000 ft. All I know is that this unit is very powerful and will definitely be more than I need for what I am using it for. The audio is adjustable and there is a police-like siren and a built in classical music track that can be played. As a teacher and coach, I have found out that students and people in general respond better to a spoken voice that is amplified vs a voice that is unassisted and straining to get louder (the strained voice is perceived as yelling at them rather than speaking to them). One thing that I instinctively went to do was pull the trigger on the megaphone to speak into it and found out that there is no trigger on this megaphone. There is a plug in handheld microphone that is included with the megaphone, so not having a trigger is no big deal (this probably helped to cut down on production cost). I think the handheld mic is cooler anyway. Bottom line is that I would definitely recommend this megaphone for the casual or semi-casual user. We will see in time how well it holds up (Pyle does offer a 1 year warranty if you register the product online.)

My coworker is a lazy POS. So when he dozes off at work I peep over his cubicle and give him the ole wake up call. Sirens are arousing too. All and all this microphone quality works great. Volume control is good, size is perfect, looks cool, battery life is good too. A LOT OF FUN.

DO NOT BUY THIS FOR ACTUAL USE OF THE EXTERNAL MICROPHONE - DO NOT WORK. I thought, meh splurge and get the external mic. lolz, it was so bad, I tossed it after testing it once. Use the mic on the back of the unit or buy a better external mic. I'm using this for an art project, so most of the issues others have had don't apply. Kind of know that coming into this product. 3 stars to support the folks who've had the problems with this product. I.e. Too cheap, falls apart, not loud, mic useless, batteries make it heavy, no better than scramming out loud. DEAR PYLE, please sell a better quality product at a cheaper price, not a useless junk cheap. You'll loose customers fast if you keep this up.

This megaphone has a really clear sound and loud. I am glad that I purchased this and would recommend to others!

I ordered four different ones in the past two years. This is my absolute favorite of all. Nice Size and Easy to operate. Can be very low or very loud as volume can be any way you want it. Love the versatility. Perfect for me. Very prompt service. Thank You!

My brother and I have a long-running tradition where we buy each other's children the most gloriously annoying toys we can find. This year, with the World Cup approaching, I decided to raise the stakes. This megaphone was the centrepiece. It's much louder than I expected, the detachable microphone works well, and the siren function is almost comically obnoxious. My nephew absolutely loved marching around the garden commentating on imaginary football matches while making sure the entire neighbourhood knew about it. It's surprisingly well made too. It doesn't feel like a cheap novelty toy, and the sound projects incredibly well for something this size. My brother's face when he realised I'd also supplied the batteries was worth every penny. Excellent fun, well built, and if you're looking to delight a child while simultaneously winding up their parents, I can't think of a better purchase.
