Works great in an old Ford Econoline van
I have an 87 Ford Econoline converted for offroading/overlanding. I have long looked at 1-din units with screens trying to find something that would fit correctly in my van's dash. The space is tight and the area is perfectly vertical with overhang at the top. Super awkward. But this radio was the perfect solution and I couldn't be happier. Words can not express how unique this product is. I have yet to find anything else that attempts to provide dynamic screen mounting. Thankfully Sony also made a generally good radio to go along with it. Pros: - Clean and effective interface - Good sound quality - Modern feature set including Android Auto and Apple Carplay via USB - Amazingly adjustable display mounting - Vibrant and responsive touch screen - Decent USB connectivity features Cons: - I dont have XM and I'd like to remove the menu icon but can not - Limited bluetooth range, I used to walk around the van with my phone in my pocket no prob - No audio input port and no CD player Notes: - It took me a while to figure out why the parking break wire was relevant. Android Auto requires that the parking break is set before you can configure it. I haven't had any functional parking break wiring in decades. If you're in the same situation, you just want to ground that wire.

Excellent sound, easy to install and Android Auto works perfectly.
First the unit is easy to install, you do need installation gear for this unit, adjustments for up, down and tilt (up and down) for the screen for great placement. There is some screen glare but I have seen worse. The units 2 5V sets of pre-amps with mono sub is a little disappointing for a high unit. The sound is very clean, I have 3 amps running 3200 watts, as you increase the volume it’s just gets louder and clear. The Android Auto works perfect with my Samsung S20 5G.

Needs brighter screen
Important radio fits, clear sound, big screen, if sun hits it you can see screen well. It should be brighter. CarPlay, clear mic, great adjustment. Okay so it fits my 85 f150 great but due to the single cab the light in the back window kinda makes the display hard to see. It looks more like a tv with the sunlight directly on it. You can’t see crap. I like the skip button, I can see those. I love the radio and it works great. Wireless hands fee calling is now available in my 85 ford. It’s easy to instal if all your wires weren’t replaced with pink ones in the vehicle. It took some time to figure out what wire does what but the wire adapter for the radio has color coded wires. I knew what they did already. The single din radio is perfect and fits any vehicle. I recommend to everyone I new I would probly buy the Sony 5000 for my next car just because I plan on having a double din and a glass feel radio. Which 8000 is more like a older atm touch screen. Adjusting it was a little hard, getting a screw driver under part of the truck was hard but I got it and screwed it in. I do plan on getting a camera next week. I love this radio!

Unrelaible connectivity + absolutely TERRIBLE screen that cannot be seen at all in daylight.
I truly regret purchasing this head unit. It is a piece of junk. I have had it in my car for about a year now, and am finally admitting to myself that I just have to replace it. The head unit has two serious flaws that absolutely RUIN it. Unit has SERIOUS connectivity issues. it *constantly* disconnects from my phone (using the hardwired USB connection). Occasionally it will remain connected to the car for an entire trip, but more often than not it will randomly disconnect from your phone a while you are driving. This can happen anytime between 30 seconds after you connect, or just a few minutes later. (Note: I have installed many head units in the past with no issues, this is not an installation issue — I am very fastidious, solder all connections etc ... I know what I am doing when it comes to working on cars and such). The other issue is the screen is junk quality. The screen graphics ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BE SEEN in any amount of sunlight at all. Its very clear that SONY made absolutely no effort to assure the screen in this product was up to the task. Frustrating to have wasted $800 on this thing? Sure. But what is absolutely INFURIATING is having to rip apart my dashboard once again, just to replace this thing because SONY couldn't be bothered to make sure that their $800 head unit actually worked reliably. I may not ever buy another sony product again.

I expected far better quality from Sony
Very crude touchscreen. Not capacitive. Android auto is unstable and crashes out often. Not HD compatible, still. I wouldn't buy it again.

Love it
Absolutely love this head unit. It’s not exactly made for an 01 GMC Sierra but i made it fit perfectly with very slight alterations here and there. I hesitated because of the price at first even up until I got it and was about to open it. Glad I kept it. Best upgrade ever
