"Gym free and ripped. Workouts that build and sculpt with minimal equipment required."
I hesitate to rate this below a 5 because it is well written. Nonetheless, I feel the description on the front cover beneath the title is a little inaccurate so a cautionary review is warranted.First, let me say this book is probably for beginners to intermediate fitness levels. It is well written, and it has some tried and true advice. So I do recommend the book with a caveat:Second, and the reason I've decided to deduct a star is that this book states "weight free workouts that build and sculpt." It does contain some weight free moves, but it also contains moves that require additional equipment such as resistance bands and dumbbells. I have all of these items so expense wasn't the issue for me. The issue for me is that I bought the book because I wanted to explore and study body weight exercises and full workouts utilizing nothing but gravity and my body. I naively thought a book called "gym free" and "weight free workouts" would, at a minimum focus on all moves that do not require weights. I suppose it isn't fair to lump resistance bands moves into my displeasure since neither are required in a gym and neither are technically weights. But, be advised if you don't already have these items you might have to get them to truly follow all of the moves. So, in summary, it's a good book and an overall great book for the beginner home workout enthusiast. However, just note that it does contain a mixture of body weight and dumbbell moves, and also moves that will require a resistance band or two.I probably would have called it "gym free and ripped. Workouts that build and sculpt with minimal equipment required."Happy reading!

Great book, I wouldn't get it on the Kindle though
This book has so many tips get ripped without the hassle of the gym. The workouts mainly use the weight of your own body, but their are a few that recommend using dumbbells, cords, or an exercise ball. The beginning is filled with ideas to improve your diet so that can get the body you always wanted. Then it goes in to a collection of exercises that can help tone and build each of the six main muscle groups (it even segregates all the exercises so that you know which ones effect which muscle groups). At the end there is a small section about supplements and how to use each of them. I did make the mistake of trying it on my Kindle... It wasn't a sloppy version, it is just that to best utilize the book you need to be able to flip through some of it quickly, which you can not do on the Kindle.

quick miniguide to fitness
"Gym-Free and Ripped: Weight Free Workouts That Build and Sculpt" is a medium paperback sized book on improving your body and your health. The beginning of the book starts with having a proper attitude and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, which includes nutrition.Basically, this book tells you how to work out at home, at the beach or at any large area. You need at least dumbbells and a tube (stretch cord) for some exercises. You may also want a large Swiss ball. If you don't have equipment, there are exercises in which you use your own bodyweight, including push ups, dips, and leg exercises. There are also sections on stretching and cardio. At the end, there is an 8 week workout program, along with information on supplements and food recipes.Consider this book a short miniguide and a fairly quick read. All photos are in black and white, with the author, Mr. Nathan Jendrick, demonstrating the exercises.

Great at-home workout book
I am a competitive swimmer so I get my cardio in the pool but I needed something to increase my dry land training. This book has done it. I love the workouts in the back that make me do a certain exercise (I'm so bad at making up my own workout at home). The recipes are great as well. Even my picky husband is enjoying eat them. I'm not ripped but I do feel the workout the next day.

Good but not great!
This is a good book and exercise program but compared to some of the other bodyweight exercise books out there, it's a little lacking.First let's address the subtitle. Another reviewer mentioned this but it's worth repeating. The subtitle clearly reads "Weight-Free Workouts". So, the reader automatically assumes that they won't need any resistance equipment for the workouts. However, a good portion of the exercises require the use of dumbbells or resistance tubing / bands. Now, there is nothing wrong with the use of dumbbells or bands, but that is obviously not "weight free". The subtitle should actually read "Minimal Equipment Workouts". With this in mind readers should be aware that they will need adjustable dumbbells or a variety of resistance tubing in order to follow the workouts as outlined. The workouts are based around the typical bodybuilding split. That is working each bodypart once per day or pairing them up depending on the number of days you choose to workout. Personally I am not a fan of only working each bodypart only once per week or even twice, especially with bodyweight exercises. However, that doesn't make it a bad workout. it may work great for some. There is a good list of exercises and brief descriptions of each. There is also a small section on nutrition. Nothing unusual or great. Just your standard carb emphasis. He also includes a section in the back that includes recipes. Personally I could do without this. Recipes include oatmeal cookies, and even hardboiled eggs(which most don't need a recipe for). There is also a section on supplements. While the author does say that supplements aren't needed, he goes on to recommend some of the pricier supplements like Whey and Creatine. Again, I could do without this section. Also, keep in mind that the use of these supplements would likely cost more per month than the typical gym membership. So, the use of the book and the supplements would actually cost more than the gym membership alone.

Not merely abs.
More than just an exercise book. The cover may give the impression that ripped abs are the subject. It changed my thinking of living a healthy dynamic lifestyle in my eating, and exercising. The work "thinking" is important in this book.
