This works so well. I made my own furnace to smelt metal and it’s perfect.

I was disappointed that this arrived with scratches and gouges. My concern is that these will be weak points and the ceramic heat shield will eventually crack. I need it now and it will be covered, otherwise I would return it. I am going to mount it on a board to reinforce it and limit the concern of cracking. Update 12/06/2025 I have used this material as a heat shield for a set of motor controllers. I cut it to fit the size of the enclosure and it has not cracked and broken as was my concern. Now I am expanding the design of motor controllers and need to use a larger piece to back larger motor controllers that will include a fan. I am purchasing it again. If you purchase you need to realize the limitations of the product. It is an inexpensive way to have a non conductive heat shield for electronic components, it is a composite material so you must secure it properly, however it will protect your components from heat.

It's a great ceramic insulating board, but it's 7.8125" wide. BXI should be tarred and feathered for not accounting for shrinkage if that's the reason, but no matter the reason it's not correct to misstated. Lots of people have made this complaint about it not being 8" wide, at the very least the seller needs to state in a prominent location the size is 7 13/16 NOT 8" wide. I'd have given 5 stars if they were realistic and accurate about the size of the product. For the record I've purchased three of these .8" and six of the .4" I've also ordered Lynn Manufacturing 20x20x3/4" and lastly a Simond Store1x18x24 I like them all. (The remnants not treated with Plistix 900F I marked and put aside as I intend to test the manufacturers ratings) To make these last, I coat the ceramic insulation boards, both soft and hard fire bricks with Plistix 900F, which is highly flux resistant.

I luckily haven't had to rate this after a real fire, but I used it when setting up a laundry chute a built-in my house, and was able to test it before installation. My "test" was holding a lighter against it for 2 minutes on the same spot and seeing what happens. Only black marks were left behind, it left no other visible signs of damage or breaking down, still very solid. I'm convinced this will slow down any potential fire in this space, where I installed it. I'll rest easier! I only used one board cut in half as the gap was 6" x 8" and making a clean cut with a razor blade, box cutter, was very easy. Very little dust was created and only took 5 seconds, but I'd still recommend a mask for the small chance of inhaling too much of this special type of dust.

Most insulating products only rate to 2400 deg. F. This product goes over 2700 deg. F. It was also light, strong and easy to cut. It did the job helping to insulate the end opening of my gas forge while forge welding.

Terrible. Nor as described. Very expensive!! I RETURNED FOOL QUANTITY. I ONLY RECEIVED CREDIT FOR 50 %!

Honestly the best part is that it was WAY CHEAPER than the replacement part from the manufacturer. But in addition, it was easy to cut and install. Now my pellet stove runs so clean and efficiently that the window doesn’t soot up and there is hardly any ash in the firebox at the end of the day. I am so pleased.
