characters shallow and the plots forgettable.
My niece like these this series of books, but finds the characters shallow and the plots forgettable. Why 4 stars? They are an easy read and she looks forward to the uppity characters getting in trouble.

good for little kids
Even though I'm an adult I still re-read some of my favorite children books. Being a fan of mermaid stories thought I would give this series a try. I think if was the age group this series is aimed at I'd probably would like it more as the characters of three best mermaid friends and one frienemy causing them trouble would be as excellent as the detail city created on the map in the start of the book. Unlike Emily Windsnap and other mermaid stories I truly love the plot was lacking for an adult like me. I can see how kids will love it.The story deals with Shelly and her start at the Trident Academy's third grade and the group school product the characters are working on. The full page art work are wonderfully drawn and remind me a bit of the artwork in the Katie Kazoo book series. Also like the type of undersea sports like shell wars created for this series.

Good book on friendship
Purchased the book for a mermaid book group discussion with 3 nieces in first grade. It is a good story with good themes to ask kids about friendships. Easy to plan a mermaid party around it with decoration and food
