Im a little iffy on whether to buy, is this mousepad soft or kinda plastic feeling?

It is synthetic leather and feels like that. Personally, I do not like it because it was kind of small to move the mouse around, especially if you have a big one. But you receive what you pay. It looks nice though. You can buy something better for extra money. If you are not too picky it should be okay.
