WD 2TB My Passport, Portable External Hard Drive, Black, backup software with defense against ransomware, and password protection, USB 3.1/USB 3.0 compatible - WDBYVG0020BBK-WESN

I built a backup system with two of these external HDs. One is the backup, the other is the mirror. They perform great. A fraction of the price of the Samsung T7 and twice the capacity. Great drives, great price, highly satisfied.

I purchased this on 08/05/2021. As an IT Professional, I owned several HDDs and SSDs, both internal and external. This was a very nice option, very elegant, portable and with 2TB of storage which was more than enough for my needs. I even purchased a UGREEN 2.5 Inch External Hard Drive Case Cover Shockproof (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072HJ4FTX/). I was about to give this product a 2-3 star review since while I was writing this (11/28/2023), I was unable to format my drive to repurpose it for some newer storage needs. I had access to the drive, I could add or delete files, but I was unable to format. It was giving me sector errors and the drive was never dropped, hit or damaged in any way. Actually it was stored in the hardcase for more than a year. Fortunately I used a tool called Mini Tool Partition (not promoting it) and after some time, it was able to format it and apparently correct the sector errors. So at this point, instead of the complaint I was writing, I decided to finish my review by saying that up until now it seems a very robust HDD in terms of functionality. Let's see if it was actually fixed or if I would need to update my review later on.

5 stars for customer service. Unfortunately the HD didn't work. Had to return it. Customer service was wonderful and very pleasant to work with. They walked me through testing the HD to be sure there was a problem with it and then replaced it when it failed the test. Really lovely people.

I needed a easy to use portable way to transfer large files, and store backups. This USB hard drive did the trick. It's small, runs off of my computers USB port, and works instantly just like plugging in a thumber drive does. Definitely satisfied with this purchase.

Eeezy Peezy to set up. Very portable. The one drawback is that it was advertised as Mac-compatible but did not include a "C" connector. It came with last-generation USB. Thankfully, I had a USB to C converter.

no issues after a year in service

This is the second purchase for this same WD External Hard Drive. I currently have one and use it all of the time. I purchased a second one as a graduation gift. The product and company is very reliable with fast transfers and easy use. I wish that it would at least come with a protective case or soft storage container.

I've been using the WD 2TB external hard drive since late 2021 (it's now the start of 2026). It's served me extremely well, and without any flaws or issues, for all that time. Note that the original I bought was defective, but its replacement has been an ideal storage solution for over 4 years. I did have to buy a second xhd, but that's only because I have a large digital media library. One is for movies alone, the other one - this one in question - has more than enough room for the last 5 years of work documentation, my entire music library, all of the TV shows I have digitized, my audiobook library, and there are still hundreds of gigs of space remaining.

I have several external drive and I have some WD drives that are ten years old and still working like new. Extremely reliable and well made product. It’s a drive that I would recommend to anyone. It’s very portable and you can bring it with you anywhere. It doesn’t heat up, the support from the WD team is amazing if you have questions or concerns. The cost could be a bit lower but I guess it’s worth paying more for a reliable product.

Je l’utilise pour mes sauvegardes Time Machine sur MacBook, ça fonctionne parfaitement.
