Fantastic Alternative to Tea
As a tea drinker who consumes all sorts of teas and herbal concoctions, I am amazed that Yaupon tea is not more widely drunken. It comes from the leaves of a specific holly tree, the misleadingly named Ilex vomitoria, commonly called yaupon or yaupon holly. It has a long history of being consumed by Native Americans, often in rituals where it was combined with other ingredients that stimulated vomiting. Yaupon is from the relative rare class of plants that have sufficient caffeine in their leavers to have an effect. However, more importantly the tea is quite tasty. The type I bought, the Cassina Roast, has a mellow flavor profile, almost like a muted oolong. It needs no sweetener or milk, although you could add to your taste. I use a fine filtered tea strainer which prevents any of the small leaf pieces from getting into your cup or mug.

Not as good as Yerba matte
Despite my preference for Yerba Mate, this tea packet didn't quite hit the mark for me. The flavor was disappointingly mild, lacking the robustness I usually enjoy in my beverages. While some may appreciate its subtle taste, I found it to be lacking in depth and character. The packaging was convenient, but unfortunately, the flavor didn't live up to my expectations. Overall, while it might suit those who prefer milder teas, it didn't quite satisfy my palate. I will stick to Yerba matte.

I love this tea
Yaupon is my daughter's favorite tea and this one is particularly good. Subtle but distinct taste, and wonderful aroma.

It was a really good tea.
It has a good taste and the value was good too.

Not for everyone
A little background. I like unsmoked yerba mate, mint, chamomile, green tea. This tea (Yaupon Light Roast) is nothing like any of them. The flavor of this tea made me nauseous On the plus side I did not feel like eating anything that afternoon :) There is no accounting for taste. Other people have liked it. It may work for you, but keep in mind that this is not a mainstream beverage.

Addicted
I like it better than mate. I bought the big bag of light roast yaupon and just finished it today after 2 months. I brew it in a gourd but i crush up the leaves w/ my straw after every pour and I just feel so amazing every day that I drink yaupon.

Very nice
Very nice yaupon. Could afford a bit fewer seeds and stems but great for the price. I also roasted it myself bc it was not brown enough for my liking. The roast is VERY light - the leaves are still green. Oh. On yaupon in general. I like yaupon a lot, not so much Yerba mate, which I find thin and overly grassy. I love black tea and drink it every day. Yaupon is complex- smoky, floral, woodsy… in addition the low tannin level means your teeth stay white (tannins like in coffee and tea stain your teeth).pro tip- If you get a darker roast, try it with a splash of milk!!!

Great Tea without Jitters
It’s easy to drink and has a moderate to weaker flavor so it’s not particularly unique in my mind. Maybe a bit like oolong. Yaupon makes for a much less jittery boost.
