Alter Eco | Dark Chocolate Bars | Pure Dark Cocoa, Fair Trade, Organic, Non-GMO, Gluten Free (6-Pack Classic Blackout)

My former favorite (not naming names) chocolate has been accused of allowing lead and cadmium into their otherwise quality chocolate. I searched for a replacement and saw a video about 5 chocolates that were of high quality and also, they were companies that practiced fair trade. The video also listed 10 chocolates that were not as high of a quality and/or didn't practice fair trade. Alter Eco was on the good list. Alter Eco Classic Blackout 85% is great chocolate. It's firm but it is almost soft enough to melt in your mouth, it has no sweet taste (it does have organic raw cane sugar) but no bitter taste either, just a balanced rich cocoa flavor. The question is: How serious are you about your chocolate? You can currently buy 36 Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars on Amazon for $33.50. 36 bars x 1.55 ounces a bar = 55.8 total ounces. $33.50 / 55.8 ounces = $0.60 an ounce. I bought 12 Alter Eco bars for $47.04 on Amazon. Each bar is 2.82 ounces. 2.82 x 12 = 33.8 total ounces. $47.04 / 33.8 = $1.39 an ounce, more than twice the cost of Hershey's Milk Chocolate. Fair trade sounds good and the quality is great. I'll probably buy this product again. So...are you willing to pay double for some serious chocolate?

I love Alter Eco Dark Chocolate. I usually order these bars directly from Alter Eco, but their stock ran out so I decided to order from Amazon/The Bena Group. This was a big mistake and I will not purchase through them again!! The two boxes of chocolate I received were inedible and had to be thrown away (they had an odd color, were tasteless, and were very hard and brittle)!! Don’t waste your money!!!! Note: Recent 1-star reviews show that my experience isn't unique. Shame on Amazon and the seller (The Bena Group) for ignoring these reviews and not offering either refunds or replacements (with edible chocolate). They at least should remove this item from their inventory.

I want to start off by saying kudos to the company on their packaging! It’s one of the hottest days this year and the chocolate showed up in cold pack wrap! Thank you! Now about the chocolate…this is the best, cleanest dark chocolate I’ve ever tasted! No soy, nasty oils or other fillers. Very low net carb count (low sugar) so it’s perfect for my animal-based diet. At a reasonable price. I love it and will definitely order it again and again. I love it!

One of the best dark chocolates for taste and environmental concerns. I was worried about ordering in July however I didn't need to worry. It came overnight in cold packaging. The cold pack was still cool and the chocolate was in great shape. Now that this chocolate is harder to find in stores, it can be ordered safely in summer and at a good price.

I would say shipping chocolate in a box, shipped in a brown box (UPS) in the middle of the summer in Texas heat isn't a good idea. I received a box with a pile of brown cacao at one end that has tempered to that nice tan color. Love the Chocolate in the past but just failed this time on shipping. I Guess only order in Winter.

I like that this is organic chocolate, however, it does have a bit of a sour flavor to it. I am used to Lindt 85% and it is smooth. Don’t get me wrong, this is good chocolate and I would purchase it again, if they keep their price down, but it is a tad sour.

Great flavor and smooth for 85% but It seems that the company would add an ice pack if they were going to deliver 12 chocolate bars on a 90 degree day. The driver dropped it by my fence and I was ready for it( just in case there were no ice packs, which there weren’t) and the packaging was completely ripped apart and the chocolates were melted and had turned colors. I’m surprised they used a bag and not a box to ship.
