Originally released in 1976, Spirit spent 30 weeks on the album charts, peaking at #7; it was certified platinum less than 2 months after it's release. Besides such favorites as "Eli's Song," "Polka Dots And Moonbeams" and "Like a Sad Song," also included on this digitally upgraded reissue are 5 bonus tracks from side 2 of the 1970 release Whose Garden Was This.

A Double Album with a Double Heart.
"Spirit", originally a two record LP released by John Denver in 1976, the follow-up to many previously successful albums like "Windsong", "An Evening With John Denver", "Back Home Again" among other previous releases. The late singer and songwriter really delivers some deep emotions through these seventeen songs. One of the tracks, "Pegasus" features some children singing on backing vocals. It really gives you a happy feeling when you listen to it. Another track included on the album was "Like A Sad Song". It gives you a deep sadness when you listen to it. Even a remake of a Beatles song, "Eleanor Rigby" is included too. "Spirit" sold well enough to go platinum and even hit the top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. However, pop radio at the time wasn't giving much airplay to John Denver's music. One reason of fact, disco music was getting hot at the time. Another fact, the only top 40 hit from "Spirit" was the tear jerker, "Like A Sad Song" that probably turned a lot of radio listers off. Late 1976 sadly was a turning point for John Devnver as well. Since then, his singles were not charting well on the pop charts. It never recovered from that time. But John Denver's "Spirit" is a wonderful album. Take a good listen to it. It shows a great craft to John's work, and probably one of the best albums he ever made.Too many young performers rely on high energy hip-hop club dance music in today's market. Right now, we need dedicated people like John Denver who can give us a sense of feeling and caring as he wanted to do, and share through his music.

A 1970s Classic
This album was a good follow up to "Windsong" and there are some great songs here. I do give it 5 stars but I was not happy with what RCA/BMG did with this CD by putting half of the album "Whose Garden Was This" on it. Having said that, I will concentrate on the music on this CD. The song "The Wings That Fly Us Home" is one of the best songs John ever did. Back in 1984, as a new fan, I saw him in concert and heard the song for the first time and I was amazed at this masterpiece. It has become one of my all time favorites. "Like A Sad Song" is a great example of John doing what he did best...singing ballads. "Pegasus" and "In The Grand Way" are also good songs, but "Wrangle Mountain Song" is classic JD. If you're a big fan of John Denver's music then, by all means you'll need to have this one too.

I love every song on this CD, it takes you back to 1976, shortly after the flower decade.
I love all the songs on Spirit, but the banjo on the upbeat song Hitchhiker makes the album for me, Eli's Song, Wrangle Mountain song, In the Grand Way, and The Wings That Fly Us Home. This CD is smooth sailing all the way. In the world of record collecting I waited patiently for years for Whose Garden Was This and it was nice to have some songs from that album on John Denver's Spirit CD. I also have to put in a word for the albums Rocky Mountain High, Windsong and Autograph. And others, but they all can't be mentioned...

Fabulous John Denver Music!
This cd is magnificent from start to finish (all 17 songs) and I'm thrilled that I decided to add it to my John Denver collection! It includes a great variety of music, and some lesser known songs that are absolutely beautiful and bring a tear to the eye (especially Eli's Song, The Wings That Fly Us Home, Whose Garden Was This). There are also a few upbeat songs that will make you smile. If you are a John Denver fan, your collection is far from complete without this cd. Great recording quality too! I absolutely love it!

Not like new. It's in good, or o.k. condition
This was described as "like new". I am excited to have this record, however it was not like new. The cover was ripped at the top and I had to tape it back together. The actual record was in good condition, so I didn't mind the cover so much. :)
