desertcart.com: Light from Many Lamps: A Treasury of Inspiration: 9780671652500: Lillian Eichler Watson: Books Review: Enjoy yourself — it is later than you think. - I’ve carried my copy for more than 25 years, a gift from a dear friend who cannot imagine the number of times I reached for this book to bring me peace. I’ve purchased this book at least a dozen times over the years as a gift for others I thought would benefit from its collected wisdom. Funny to think the author, Lillian Eichler Watson, was better known for her books on etiquette than a collection of inspiration. Although the copyright reads 1951, the book is no less useful today than when first published. Some may argue, persuasively, this book gets better with age. I would not disagree. My favorite passage is on page 23 under the heading “Happiness & The Enjoyment of Living.” The selection is a retelling of Frederic Loomis story from “In a Chinese Garden,” originally published in 1942. The message is “Enjoy yourself — it is later than you think.” Keep that in mind if you’re mulling over a purchase. I’ve found this to be more than a great value (how many books do you carry for a quarter century?). Light from Many Lamps has provided me a lifetime of inspiration. Rating: Five stars Review: Light from Many Lamps - In this book you will find the wisdom of people like Burroughs, Longfellow, Emerson and Shakespeare, to name only a few. I found this a very comforting book to read in times of difficulty. It was a gift from a friend when I was young. Now that I am old, I find it a great gift for teens and adults, and recently bought two to give to friends. My book is very well used and falls open to my favored pages. I heartily recommend this book.

Very uplifting book
So many different topics and encouraging words from very knowledgeable people. It really lifts me up or gives me ideas on how to handle situations or even just a different perspective on things. Very good read. My pages are starting to wear thin from the many times I've turned to this book.

BUY THIS!
This book contains wonderful quotes by absolutely amazing people. It is something that I can pick up and read here and there with out having to submerse my self into for hours. However, it still gives me the clarity and insight I need. Great buy!

A Great Go-To Book!
I've bought many copies for many people. There's an insightful passage for everyone! It's a good read to bookmark and I found one doesn't need to read it in sequential order.

Makes for good late night reading in bed.
This book was first introduced to me by Lewis Meyer, a local bookseller in Tulsa, OK who was a local institution and a refreshing change from the lackluster corporate bookstores that are as commonplace as Wal-Marts. I still have my original hardcover edition Meyer sold to me back in the mid 1980's. It was a pleasant surprise to find a book filled with many gems of wisdom or words of encouragement that weren't tinged with a underlying message of condemnation. Though a bit heavy on religion, that is easily overlooked, even for an atheist like myself. I highly recommend this book as a gift for anyone looking for a book that makes attractive, light reading.

Just amazing!!! Must read book. Book Review "LIGHT from many LAMPS" This is not just a book,it is a treasury of inspiration. The book covers almost every parameter which a man needs to motivate himself. It shows the man how to be happy and contempt. It teaches us to believe in one own self,do the things courageously and confidently. It also teaches personality and relationship to others,self-discipline and lastly hope for the future. The most interesting thing about this book is that it is not written by only one person, it is the collection of the essays, poems, speeches, letters, biographies and even some topics are from other books; and all these are not delivered by one single person ,these are from Robert Browning,Abraham Lincoln,William Shakespeare,Saint Paul, plus many more. It is more than a book , it is like our friend which helps us when we are in trouble or faced a big disaster it helps us how to accept it and come over it with confidence and courage. After every topic the commentary of Eichler Watson, the author, is also nice and sometimes it is helpful in understanding the topic. Because some topics are of the time of B.C. and which are in old language. Best thing about the book is that in the small book it covers the topic like happiness, courage, confidence, faith, love and the last Hope for the future. The author has put the things in very beautiful way. And yes it is the book that anyone one likes to read it again and again. And one more thing that the name, given to this book is very nice.
