Do Not Buy This Hood! Does Not Work! Extremely Difficult to Install!
The media could not be loaded. Beware of Cookology products, especially the cylindrical CYL351 model which I purchased in anticipation of a kitchen installation. I was worried that it may not be in stock and the whole kitchen design of the kitchen was based on this hood because of the simple and minimal appearance it presents. I bought it and stored it.I contacted Cookology to report that this hood does not pull any air. The person in the chat first requested an order number. I said I do not have an order number since I bought it from Amazon. The person said there is still an order number even if you bought it from Amazon. I said ok, let check my account and get it to you.The person closed the chat in less than a minute.I had to make 4 of 5 more attempts to get a new chat going. The chat closed several times as I tried it. Finally I was able to get one going and provided the order number. After providing the order number without warning the chat was terminated.Apparently, they sent an email to me which I did not know at first. So tried a new chat again. I was then told to check my email and that I need to continue the exchange through email. The chat requested that I send a video of the hood not being able to pull air. Mind you, I was not cooking at the time. So I had to immediately stop and boil water and show that the hood is not pulling any air. I made a video and sent it to Cookology. Here is the conversation with Cookology:Please note that I removed the name of the individuals I communicated with at Cookology for privacy reasons.Buyer:I have a Cookology hood. model CYL351. When it runs, you can feel the air being blown outside but it is not pulling the air from the inside. You can see the steam just bypassing the hood. Do you understand why? I sure do not.Cookology: We will need a video of this issue persisting so please can this be sent across next time you are using the appliance?Buyer: Here is the video you requested. As you can see the hood is running. The water is boiling and the steam is bypassing the hood. it is not pulling/sucking the steam. You can even see the condensation of the steam on the exterior of the hood. This is the issue I am dealing with. Please let me know.Cookology: Good afternoon, Thank you for sending us over a video of your appliance. When there is no or less suction on your Cooker Hood, it may be due to one of the following reasons;- The grease Filter needs cleaning. To clean the grease filter, place it in hot or boiling water with some dish soap or a similar grease-removing agent. Let it soak for a while to allow the grease to soften. Then scrub with a sponge or soft brush. Remove and clean the filter thoroughly once a month.- The Carbon Filter needs replacingIf your hood doesn’t have a vent connection, it will most likely use a carbon filter. Carbon filters are disposable and need replacing every 6 - 9 months. If you would like more information on which Carbon Filter is compatible with your Cooker Hood, please let us know.- Check inside the hood for dirt built-upIf you’ve ensured that the filters in your hood are well taken care of, another thing to check is your hood’s air ventilation. If the hood hasn’t been cleaned for a long time, dust and grease may have seeped through the filters and made their way towards the hood’s fan. Though unlikely, some other foreign object might have been sucked up into the hood, obstructing air flow inside the appliance. Please also check the V Flaps are not taped or stuck down? This can also cause the same issue. Please may you check all above points and let us know how you get on.Failing these, it may be the case that your appliance has a broken fan blade or fan motor failure. We look forward to hearing from you.Buyer: This is a brand new and newly installed hood. So none of this makes sense. it never pulled anything into the hood. The final inspection on this remodel is not even done yet. So none of the above recommendations apply.Thank you."Please also check the V Flaps are not taped or stuck down? This can also cause the same issue."If the V Flaps were taped the air would not be going outside. The V Flaps are not taped down. The hood is behaving as if it is blowing air into the kitchen instead of pulling the air outside. Is there a possibility that the fans inside the hood are mis-oriented so they are blowing in the wrong direction? Please let me know.Thank you.The steam seems to be being pushed away from the hood and the steam by passes the hood.I have never seen this with a hood even when there is built up in it. It is really a strange behavior in a hood.I do not get it. Just please let me know.Thank you.Cookology: Good afternoon,Thank you for your message. Please confirm are you using a ducting kit or carbon filters?Kind regards,Buyer: I am using ducting to the outside.Cookology: Good afternoon, I appreciate your message.Could you please verify the distance between the hob and the extractor? Additionally, is the extractor aligned with the center of the hob?Kind regards, Buyer: Yes the hood is centered on the stove top and the distance is 735 mm. (73.5 cm). (Just for clarity here there installation manual stipulated maximum distance is 800mm.)Cookology: Good Afternoon, I am sorry to hear there is an issue with your appliance. All of our appliances come with a 12 month guarantee direct with us. This covers you for any faults for 12 months.Unfortunately this has now expired as you purchased your item on; Mon, 19 Feb 2024.Sadly due to this, we would not be able to replace or refund the item for you. Please accept our apologies on this matter.Kind Regards,Buyer: Hi Cookology, (replaced the agent’s name with Cookology for privacy)I purchased this hood in anticipation for my kitchen installation I was preparing. Fearing that it may no longer be in stock, I purchased it and stored it as I based my kitchen design on this hood. This item was only installed shortly before the Christmas holidays. We do not even use it much. The installation has not even been 6 months. Today is March 31st and we barely used this hood. It is really disappointing.I hope you would reconsider this decision because I was expecting better performance from this hood and this brand. Thank you.Cookology: Good Afternoon,Unfortunately this is part of our terms and conditions and must stick to this.We do understand the inconvenience.Kind regards,Buyer: Your product never performed the task it is designed to perform. It is very disappointing.I will need to warn other Amazon customers about this product.Thank you.In Conclusion: After this last comment, I never heard back from Cookology so as promised I am warning all of you on Amazon about purchasing this product. I have to say that as soon as the hood was installed, I noticed the air was not being pulled but thought that over time it will start doing it. Now I regret not immediately contacting Cookology and regret buying it early in anticipation of my kitchen installation. Planning ahead has unfortunately been my curse. So warning, all that is going for this hook is its simple, and minimal appearance, other than that however it does not work as a practical hood in pulling air out of your kitchenSo please stay away from it. I will always be happy to come back for more reviews if Cookology recognizes the flaw in this hood and fixes the problem I am having.****Very Important:If you want to have the 80 cm between the top of your counter and the hood as it is suggested in the installing manual and you have the standard ceiling height (2.5 meters). Think twice about buying this hood. If you are not a builder or you are not versed in construction, do not buy it. Because if you hire someone to install it for you it will take a long time to figure it out and it will cost you more than is worth. In addition to this hood not pulling any air, it is extremely difficult to install. Hope this helps all of you.

Simplistic, modern design
So far so good. Had this installed by electrician last week and it looks great. Electrician did comment that it was very fiddly to erect but managed in the end.I’m pleased with it’s simplistic modern design which doesn’t take up too much space as bought it to replace an existing extractor that was out of scale with its location

Not for the inexperienced DIYer.
The product looks good and well finished, works well, however installing it is another matter! Assembling it at ground level was fine but fitting it to the ceiling plate was difficult because there is no clearance between the end of the angle hangers and the inside of the top plate causing the bolt holes not to line up needing to be drilled out.
