Can you see through the cloth? I'm trying to cover up fiberglass sound insulation for a soungdabsorption panel. I don't want to see the fiberglass.

I would say yes depending on the back ground color. I just used this on a bass cabinet I built. Keep your eyes peeled I will post a review here shortly with a sea foam green amp.

does the material have any vertical and horizontal stretch?

Both. We doubled up the fabric and used it to cover a subwoofer.

Is this fabric thin enough to allow airflow from AC return?

My opinion is that it would allow air flow , however it would be significantly restricted. Unless you have other returns that could make up for the loss you could be causing other issues with your AC unit down the road.
