An Honest Review by Brandon
What a burger what? Pfft, OK truth yeah some of you know what I am talking about and yeah hands down one of the best burger joints. However, nothing beats some down home grilling and smoking.Different types of fuel for different types grills. This is not intended for propane incase that wasn't obvious :)Charcoal and wood chunks let's go! Nope, not getting into that debate. They both have their places. However, I do have 1 thing that I firmly believe in. No lighter fluid! But, but, Brandon how are we going to light our grill. Get some sticks and spin! OK no, caveman days ar over. Kind of a shame, always wanted to try the bopping a woman on the head! Wait what? Ok, this is where this product comes in.For starters, if you are new to grilling/smoking food and used lighter fluid, ate whatever you cooked, and you could literally taste lighter fluid, 2 things for ya rookie. 1 you used lighter fluid. 2 you used lighter fluid ha! OK, no number 2 is actually you didn't let the coal or wood burn long enough. What I want you to think of, is there any of that lighter fluid taste, even the slightest after your fuel has burned to a beautiful Grey steaming red volcano? Did you literally just use lighter fluid to cook what you are now ingesting. I'll have a steak with a side of lighter fluid to guzzle it down, YUCK!Charcoal chimneys. Yessir. A beautiful thing and let us be honest, some times a pain in the back side as well. But this is where experiemce and use comes to play so don't shy away. You know that old saying practice makes perfect? Hey might not be perfect but you will get a fire! Have some options with these guys. Retail stores sell naturally wood spindles little chunks you can put right under this after you have filled it with either coals or wood chunk. Light those little babies and they get the coals a Rollin. Another option. You still get newspapers? Ever go to grocery store where they have free news paper for their store adds wink wink. Grab a few ball em up, slap em under the chimney after adding said fuels, light papers and away she goes. Now to you newbies I will give the fair warning of using option method numeral duece. If paper is too tight, too loose, not enough, you will be going at it a few times. That is where the practice end in fire. But remember, wink wink, you can have plenty of practice! So, now we got a fire under our fuel source, no nummy lighter fluid used. Now the dreaded long wait for that Grey wholesome goodness. Come back after 45 minutes right, noooope. Again that is where this product comes in. The stacked fuel source is being heated from bottom to top in an enclosed area. Which means your fuel comes up to desired heat faster.OK you are making this sound too good. There has to be something wrong! Well, of course there is. As always, nothing is perfect. So, if you are like me and are a flip flops only type of person heed caution. The bottom of these are an open basket type of deal. This means if wood chunks or broken Charcoal are small enough, when you go to dump your hot coals in the grill, you might get a little raspberry coming down trying to attack your toes!Great we are now fully informed on these magical chimneys, now what say you about this particular one? I definitely recommend for a couple reasons. First it is on the larger side. This means less fuel in the grill to heat up for larger portions. The other part is the shield by the handle, it helps, granted I will say that the shield could have been better thought out cause it still gets hot, just not as hot. Please do not test this and touch that thing. Guarantee you are gonna be cussing and crying to your partner. Yes grown man/Woman to baby from 100 to zero in 0 seconds flat.Enjoy!

works well
I've only used it once so far, but it worked well. the newspaper lit quickly and stayed lit (i know someone with a different brand who usually has to repeatedly light their newspaper before the charcoals catch). despite not having the second hinged handle like some of the nicer ones, i didn't have any trouble directing the hot charcoals to a specific area of the grill. i have grill gloves so i don't know how well the heat barrier works, but it's obviously better than nothing. i recommend it.

Too late
Not much to it. We used to have one. It worked great. Then we needed one. So I ordered it. It was supposed to be here by noon. We left to go to the picnic at 2, it still wasn't here. We ended up buying charcoal starter fluid at QFC.

I have used several types of charcoal chimneys and this is perfectly sized, lasts about three years
Perfect for those who don't use gas, charcoal cooking tastes better anyhow

Healthy alternative to lighter fluid
Put some paper in the bottom for the wick, pile on the charcoal, and then pour some cheap vegetable oil on top. Light it, and about 10 minutes later, you can pour it on the grate and grill. No unhealthy fumes.

Would buy it again if I needed to.
Struggled lighting coals before this. This get the coals nice and hot very quickly. It’s all one piece, ready to go out if the package. A good size. Build quality is also pretty nice.

Makes starting charcoal for grilling a breeze!
Perfect size for starting a charcoal fire in the grill. It makes getting the charcoal going much easier! You get a lot better burn and no wasted charcoal. It is well made and seems like it will last a really long time being subjected to high heat. It's lightweight and easy to store (you could even hang it on the side of the grill if you want to).

Perfect for longtime use
This is the best one we have gotten, it has held up to daily use in the spring, summer and fall. the handle does not get hot so it is easy (and safe) to dump the red hot charcoal. Very easy to use and does not take up a lot of space
