Teton 20F and 5F Degree Sleeping Bag; Lightweight, Warm Weather Mummy Sleeping Bags for Adults and Kids, Camping, Backpacking, Hiking

After hours and hours of reviewing multiple websites I decided on the Teton. I was in the market for a lightweight bag rated as close to zero as possible that will take a small amount of space. I will be loading this sucker on my adventure motorcycle for moto-camping everywhere from the Appalachians to Deadhorse, Alaska (in the summer) so I need something light and compact. This is the only ultralight bag rated around +5 that I can find for under a hundred bucks. You can't beat the 4.1 lbs weight that compresses down (with the included compression sack) as small as this one. First, the +5 is the survival rating and should be comfortably warm down to +25. I tested this out yesterday by sitting in it on my snow covered deck with a temperature around 8 or 9 degrees for just under 10 minutes before I got bored. I wore only shorts, short sleeve shirt, and wool socks. I was comfortable. I could feel a little coolness were my arms were touching the cold metal of my chair but I was most definitely warm enough. If it gets down this low when I am out (which I don't anticipate), I will just keep on more layers inside the bag plus I will be using a waterproof/windproof tent and won't be sleeping out in the elements. I feel confident that this bag will be perfect for my needs. I am 5'10" 155 lbs and there was plenty of room. This bag would easily fit a larger frame but the fit of the bag should depend on how you sleep at night. From my research I found that a slightly larger bag will be better for me since I move around a lot at night. If you wake up the way you fall asleep then you probably want it to be pretty snug but since I don't, I will need a little more room. The inside is more comfortable than the sheets on my bed and the hood cinches completely around my head and face when I tightened it all the way. The compression sack is a little suspect and I feel like it may not hold up after dozens of uses but it came with the bag so can't complain. I'm thinking of buying a more rugged compression sack to use for the bag then use this one for clothing or other compressible items. Item was delivered to me 3 days after purchase, some of the other reviews spoke of months but there must have been a back-order at the time. I could not find another bag rated this close to zero that weighed less than 5 lbs, compressed this small, and cost this little. Most bags rated ultra-light cost far more.

I'm trying to get myself into camping and backpacking as a new hobby. And as many people know, starting a new hobby can often be pricey and difficult to do until you get all the gear you need. I bought this sleeping bag back in October of 2018, but I only just got to give it a good cold-weather test about midway through February. Let me just first say that I'm a big guy. At about 6'2" and 275 lbs I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to fit too well inside this sleeping bag. However not only do I fit, but I fit with a few extra layers of thermal clothing on as well. It's a little snug, but workable. I set up my tent in my yard after shoveling snow out of a 9' x 9' square section. My sleeping pad is a Klymit Static V Insulated pad and the temperatures at night when I went out to sleep were hovering around 18 degrees F. Not only did i stay toasty warm, but at one point I felt like I could even take a layer of clothing off and still be perfectly comfortable all night long (even with my feet hanging over the end of the sleeping pad about 3-4 inches). At the time I purchased the sleeping bag it was selling on Amazon for $63. I've got to say that I couldn't be happier with the purchase. It was affordable, it was comfortable, it's easy to fit back into its stuff sack and compresses down fairly well, and most importantly it kept me warm. The only downside that I can make note of, and a lot of other reviewers seem to have the same issue, is that the zipper tends to be a little difficult to work with. And while it can be a tad tricky, I've managed to find a way to work with it fairly easily most of the time and, as a result, I don't feel it warrants removing a star from the overall rating. The bottom line as I see it is if you need a cheap sleeping bag to keep you warm in cold weather conditions, this is a great purchase at a great price.

I had the TETON Sports Journey 20F bag, which I liked very much, but it didn't live up to its rating on a 35F night two years ago. This year, while getting ready for the same spring campout, I decided to upgrade to this bag after much research. Here's what I discovered: Pros: - It kept me toasty warm - almost too warm - over two nights where temps dipped into the 30s. I was wearing warm clothes (merino wool/poly blend long underwear, fleece shirt and pants - I was taking turns tending a fire all night with a group of people and didn't want to keep getting in/out of clothes), and I had an insulated sleeping pad, so I can't vouch for the performance down to the rated temps or with less clothing. But pretty much the only parts of me that were chilled were my face and exposed hands; the first night, I had to sleep with my arms out of the bag. - There's extra padding/insulation in the footbox without sacrificing room to wiggle your feet. - The inside of the bag feels awesome. It's a very soft microfiber that feels like a bed sheet, not the usual slick nylon or itchy flannel of most bags in this price range. - Synthetic fill is better at resisting moisture. Condensation is always an issue here in the humid East, and I sweat like by skin has sprung a leak most of the time, so having a bag that dries quickly and stays warmer when wet is a huge bonus. - The ripstop outer shell feels like it could handle a lot of wear and tear. - It comes with a compression sack. - I mean, it's cheap. No getting around that. 10 points for value, especially compared to the bags sold in big-box or the various "-Marts". Cons: - Don't be fooled by the "ultralight" in the name - It's bulky and kind of heavy. I have a 65L backpack with a 10L sleeping bag compartment, and it completely filled the compartment, even after compressing the bag as much as possible. It's the size of a medium-sized watermelon. It also weighs exactly what the specs say - 4lbs 1oz - when in the stuff sack (it might be a few ounces litter without), so for backpacking, it's on the upper end of what most people carry. If you were using this as a backpacking bag in the spring/fall with the usual "shoulder season" extra kit (warm clothes, extra food, etc), you might not have the extra room for a bag like this and you'd probably be better served with a down bag. However, things like weight and bulk are relative, and while this might not be a bag for those who like to travel small and light, the "average" backpacker might find it's fine. Like I said, it fit in my 65L backpack along with all of my other kit, geared towards a two-night weekend trip. - I'm a short, stocky guy (5' 8", 210lbs), and while this bag had plenty of length and room in the feet area, the shoulder room was pretty tight. It's a left-zip bag too, which meant to zip it all the way up, I had to reach across my chest to get at the zipper. I found the bag a little confining, but maybe if you're used to mummy bags, you might be fine with it. I personally could have used a few more inches across the chest. - Speaking of the zipper, it's small and I'm not sure how it will hold up to repeated use. Conclusion: This is actually a pretty-good bag as long as you have realistic expectations of it. Let's face it, for a 5F bag well under $100, it's great. It seems well made, it's warm, and for a cheap synthetic bag it's not unreasonably heavy. This is a bag geared towards car campers, Boy Scouts, and maybe weekend backpackers - not for a month on the Appalachian Trail. If you know that going foward, you'll enjoy this bag a lot more.

Worth every penny. Warm, comfortable and light. Can't ask for much more

A fair bit of research led me to this sleeping bag. I own quite a few, but wanted something that was light enough to backpack with, packable, comfortable, and under $100. I have been putting together an alternate set of backpacking gear with more of an emphasis on value. The goal being a multi-purpose set of gear that I can loan out to friends on my never ending quest to grow the backpacking community and get more people in the woods and on the mountain. After having used it several times I have not been disappointed. The true test will come when we move into the colder months, as I have only had this bag down to the high 20s, at which point I had to actually open it up a bit because it was so warm, so I expect it to fare well in considerably colder temperatures. This bag is wider than many other lightweight sleeping bags, making for a comfortable fit. It also has a convenient Velcro cover for the top of the zipper which keeps it from abrading against you, and provides some protection against zipper creep. It is worth noting that it can be difficult to fully zip up, and may require a bit of repositioning to get enough slack in the liner to allow it to fully zip. It does get caught on itself a bit as the zipper makes its way up, but not so bad that it becomes frustrating. Slowing down a bit takes care of this problem. The fleece lining does a good job in the comfort department, but will hold some odour and moisture. As with any sleeping bag, especially on colder trips, it is imperative to dry your feet completely before slipping into your sleeping bag. The compression sack that it comes with seals with a drawstring and then offers 6 points of compression tensioning. When taking the time to evenly compress this, it becomes small enough to fit in the sleeping back compartment of every pack that I own. Some more expensive bags do get considerably smaller, and if that is important the Teton LEEF is a great option, offering a bag that is slightly lighter, compresses smaller, and provides an additional 5 degrees of insulation with a safety rating of 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The LEEF offers this for a few dollars more (at the time of posting), and I plan on purchasing that next if the Tracker holds up to the precedent it has set thus far. All told, this bag offers value that NOTHING in this price range can come close to with such a low temperature rating. I have no complaints and look forward to using this bag through the winter. I will update my review in spring to reflect its performance when put to the test and pushed to the limits of its comfort and safety rating. Teton has a great reputation, and offer a great value on every product I have owned from them. I look forward to reviewing more of them in the future

This is more of an unboxing review, and also it is more of a 3.5 star review. Just got this from UPS, opened it up, and got it out of the stuff sack. I hope I am able to stuff it back in because it was a tight fit. I bought this for the purpose of backpacking. It will never see use other than that as I have a nice, large, roomy sleeping bag when space isn't as much of an issue. With that being said, this bag can pack down small and is light weight. They do this by not making the bag much larger than is needed to fit a human inside. I am about 6 foot tall, and weight about 235 pounds and built like a hockey player. I am pretty much a brick... Size 13+ shoes, wide hips and shoulders. I stated all of that to help describe the fitment. It fits like a human condom on me... Normally I sleep pretty spread out with my arms and legs going all over the place. I won't have the space to do it in this bag. It is just wide enough to have my feet apart about four to six inches. It is pretty snug at my shoulders, and enough room in the hip area to wiggle back and forth a bit. So, small fitting aside, the bag is warm. Damn warm. It was low 60's in my living room when I crawled into it, and it took maybe three minutes before I was toasty warm, almost to the point of sweating feet. The insulation they use seems like it will get the job done very well considering there really isn't much around compared to the larger lightweight bags on the market. Another selling point for me was the price. Not many bags are out in the market for under $60 with the build quality of this one. After seeing the fancy high dollar bags that go for $200+, the only thing they would have is more space inside the bag. Pretty sure I will be happy with this sleeping bag out in the field. I also have a Teton sports back pack, as well as my son's sleeping bag. They make a quality product and even offer a lifetime warranty. ******update***** So I took the bag out for a hunting/camping trip to the grasslands of central/eastern Washington state. The overnight temps got down pretty low, maybe high 30's as a guess on the higher side. Once I got shimmied down into the bag, I stayed warm. But when your feet are semi moist from being wet all day, and you are cold and trying to crawl into a tight fitting sleeping bag in a one man backpacking tent, it is a rough experience. If only the bag was just a pinch wider all the way down, it would be perfect. I understand with more bag = more weight and size. But it literally just needs to be maybe two inches wider all the way down to be a wayyy better bag. Once inside, you are kinda screwed if you are a rough sleeper. I roll around, toss and turn, and that is hard to do in a small fitting sleeping bag. I will keep it, and hand it down to my youngest son for when we start camping and I will try to find another bag for myself. I had to drop it from a 4 star (really 3.5) at unboxing to a solid 3. It is a great bag, with great materials and construction, just super small.

Did extensive comparison shopping over several nights on Amazon for a sleeping bag that is durable, warm, and lightweight at a good price point. The zippers glide open and close smoothly, was very warm when I got inside, and is lightweight and compact. This bag goes above and beyond by being super easy to get back into the outer bag after taking it out which I haven’t experienced with other bags in the past. I purchased this bag a little over a year ago. I am 6ft 1in and 180lbs and I have some room to spare in this bag. I have been on several multiday and 2- week long trips with this bag and have been happy with it. Its light weight, easy to stuff, and packs small. Most of the nights have been 55 degrees or below, with the coldest being 28 degrees. I am a hot sleeper and can easily wear shorts with a light pair of socks in this bag down to 40 degrees. I can wear a light long underwear shirt, shorts, and medium weight socks down to 34. Anything colder and I am wearing light weight long underwear and wool socks. During the couple nights of sleeping below 30 degrees in the bag I was perfectly comfortable until just before sunrise when it was at its coldest. My feet became chilly. I added a light pair of light socks under the wool socks and was warm again. There have been 2 nights that the temps were around 60-65 degrees. I was warm enough with the bottom zipper 2/3 the way open to be hot. Ended up using it as a blanket. The bag stays close to your body throughout the night and can take some getting used to if you are used to sleeping in a standard mummy bag. Once you have slept in it a night or two you really start to understand why they made the interior of the bag out of the soft material. The bag is super quiet to sleep in which is good for the light sleep who moves around at night. I sleep on my right side, on my back, and on my left side. When I am on my sides I keep my legs pretty bent. When I move between the positions throughout the night the bag stays with you and you never seem to spin inside the bag. I just finished washing it, following the tags hand washing instructions, and it looks like it did when I received it. I haven't had any issues with any of the stitching or the insulation losing loft. The only downside with this bag is for people with broad shoulders, like I have, it can be difficult to zip around the shoulder area once inside the bag. I can do it easily now after plenty of practice. Of course this is also a positive because the closer the bag is to you the warmer you are. I am looking to buy there 5 degree bag for some climbing trips in colder weather and cant wait to try it out.

I camped on Dartmoor at -3 and was very cold. This bag is more suited to about 0 degrees I would think.

This is a fantastic sleeping bag for the money. It is not considered light weight for some long distant hikers but, I do motorcycle camping and its light enough and small enough for that. I do mainly spring summer fall camping and this bag keeps me warm. I did a fall camping trip in Canada's Coastal mountains at 7000 ft elevation and i was a little cool (- 4C), nothing that flannel pants and a shirt didn't solve. Its very well made and I found they made the bag a little larger than your traditional mummy bag. As a 6' 3" 250 lb man the bag was comfortable to sleep in. Teton also made a larger than normal foot box so there is some movement for your feet, which i appreciate. The colour is a nice red and grey. The material used inside the bag is very comfortable and warm. The fabric on the outside appears to be very durable. The zippers work great. As with any bag I recommend a self inflating sleeping matt for warmth and comfort from the rocks, sticks etc. I highly recommend this sleeping bag for people that don't want to spend a fortune and get value instead. It is exceptionally well made. As with any sleeping bag be sure to store it out of its storage bag and hang it up or lay it on a spare room bed to retain its loft until your next camping trip, the bag will last for years. I don't regret buying it. Value in this case does not mean compromise. I have had this sleeping bag for years and its still the one I use. I would not hesitate to buy again. Teton makes great products.

Soft, warm, and well-made.neat stitching, no weird smell. Lightweight and packs small—great for school or trips. Fantastic value for the price!

tuve oportunidad de usarlo en condiciones desde los 0°C hasta los -9°C con mucho viento y lo único que puedo decir es que cumple su función perfectamente, no creo que acampar en alguna montaña mexicana suponga algún problema, únicamente durmiendo con traje térmico(ropa interior) y el sleeping la pasas bien, muy calentito, e dormido el albergues del pico de orizaba, y en tiendas de campaña sin problemas, en el iztaccihualt dormi en albergues y en la cima y sin ningún problema el interior es de microfibra y la sensación al tacto es muy suave y calientita, me agrada un buen. cabe perfectamente en el compartimiento de 10L que suelen tener todas las mochilas para que metas el sleeping, la bolsa de compresión quizá no es la mejor pero cumple su cometido, igual el almacenamiento fuera de su bolsa es buena por que tiene 2 arillos por la zona de los pies para que lo puedas colgar en la pared y mantenerlo en optimas condiciones hay que recordar que los sleepings de preferencia jamas tienen que ser lavados para que se mantengan igual de calentitos, así que cada que vallas a la montaña hay que sacarlo y ponerlo a orear un poco la tela exterior es ripstop que se siente un poco delgado pero con la seguridad de que es riptop impermeable, en la montaña si e llegado a sentir el exterior del sleeping húmedo pero el interior super seco, transpira muy bien el sleeping. el único detalle que podría encontrarle es que si estas pensando tener un solo sleeping para todo, este no lo es, este solo te servirá en climas muy fríos, si estas arriba de 2°C vas a sentir mucho calor :s en las noches si no hace mucho frió suelo quitarme el gorro y se termina enfriando mi cabeza, así que hay que tener cuidado si hacemos esa movida para refrescarnos un poco.

Absolutely amazing sleeping bag. I spent around 5 months looking for the perfect sleeping bag that balanced price, temperature, weight, and pack size. This was the one I chose, and I’m so happy that I did. I’m 5’ 3” and over 200 pounds, so I’m hardly a delicate flower. I was a bit worried about how tight the bag would be, but I was pleasantly surprised by just how roomy it was. I have plenty of room to move inside for a mummy bag. The bag at first felt a little thin to the touch, but I guess I’m just used to old sleeping bags because it’s ridiculously warm for it’s thickness. I also really love the padded hood and draw string. I was looking at far more expensive ones at Cabelas and they weren’t half as nice as the one I got. I’d buy it again in an instant. The zippered pocket for your cell or camera is a nice touch too. Update: having used it between 10-15 Celsius, I was surprised to find that I woke up cold at one point. Granted, I’m a VERY cold sleeper, but still. I still 100% love the bag and will use it for summer as it clearly won’t be too warm for me in the 20’s, but if you are a cold sleeper, it may be something to think about.
