Teton 20F and 5F Degree Sleeping Bag; Lightweight, Warm Weather Mummy Sleeping Bags for Adults and Kids, Camping, Backpacking, Hiking

I do quite a bit of camping in the brush. Often 2-3 times a month. I preferably sleep by a fire, directly outside in the elements, and under a tarp or under nothing at all. I use a cheap sleeping pad For comfort and bit of insulation from the ground. With nothing but moisture wicking long johns and wool socks, This bag kept me warm in 18 degrees with 4 inches of snow in the surrounding creek bottom. We woke up to 2+ more inches of snow on the ground. My feet never even a hint of cold weather exposure. They stayed comfortable all night. The micro fleece inside is very cozy and my favorite thing about the bag. I hate sleeping bag materials, So this was quiet a relief. The wind was steady and crept in through the mummy hole, I tightened it down as far as it would crimp up leaving about. 1-2 inch hole for breathing fresh air on occasion. I simply faced the hole away from the wind so I wouldn’t suffocate in the bag or suffer from wind blast through the hole. Excessive wind can just be blocked by a pillow. Aside from the mummy hole - no wind made its way inside. I’m 5’11” with a 31” waist, Medium shirt size - smaller build guy. This bag is as small as I would ever want to go. Almost no room inside once it’s zipped up and I have no more head room hardly at all. My camp buddy made fun of me cause I was sleeping like Dracula Stuffed in a tiny coffin. I like to sit up on my sleeping pad and hang out around the camp fire. This bag made it impossible to sit with my legs crossed, but it has a two way zipper - I just opened the zipper from the bottom of the bag and was able to sit Inside the feet portion with my legs crossed the way I wanted and had the rest of the bag to wrap around me. Before discovering this method - I was super disappointed with not being able to sit Up in my bag comfortably. Although it’s a bit tight - This bag is now my favorite winter bag. I’ve tested It in record lows for my region and it easily passed. It’s also pretty lightweight and compresses in a compression sack extremely well. Highly recommend budget sleeping sack!

Just got my Trailhead 20+ from Amazon for a great price--I was excited when came in (as they were out of stock). So far I like this bag and from other reviews, I expect it will hold up. As other reviewers commented, there aren't a ton of choices in the synthetic, light and reasonable cost category. I like synthetics because I have kids and that means they'll use (or better said misuse) them at some point and better to know you're not ruining an insanely costly piece of equipment, not to mention the wet factor. This bag strikes the perfect balance of everything thing from cost, weight to features. I received the bag this week and immediately wanted to test it. Thankfully we had some mid-20 temps recently, so it made for a perfect testing ground. When I went to bed, it was in the upper-30s and by dawn in the mid-20s. The details on prepping for the evening: I put on a dry base layer (long sleeve top, long john pants, fresh wool socks and a stocking cap). I also slept on an inflatable pad. I was thinking about trying a liner, but I wanted to test the bag for it's rating and that's what I did. More details on this test: - For size comparison, I am 6 foot tall and weigh about 195. I wear a 42-L jacket. I'm not a huge guy, but not small either. This bag comfortably fits me. - The inner bag material isn't slick or slippery. I was actually concerned about this, but it made it easy to move around because the bag stays with your body as you turn. - The footbox has plenty of room, so your feet can move around without feeling cramped or having too much area to move around. - I hung the bag from the loops when I got it out of the box and slept in it the next night, there were no cold spots to notice. Store with the loops if you can (read the directions for any bag for storage). - Really liking the mummy hood drawstring. My old bag has a shoulder and hood drawstring. This simplifies the process and doesn't feel like you're going to hang yourself in the middle of the night adjusting. - The temperature rating does seem to be fairly accurate. I was not cold at 26-degrees (which is what it got to during my test), but I would say that if I were going to go too much more, I'd add a liner. Seems accurate. - Comes with a stuff sack. - Read the care directions if you are considering it, e.g. don't put in a washing machine. Here's the deal, you want to go down and expensive, go that way. Want a synthetic that is of reasonable price and that comes as advertised, this is the bag. I'm interested to find out how it holds up over time, but from everything that I can see to date, this bag is going to be a great investment. Item is as advertised. Happy trekking. Will update as necessary as I use on the trail. --- Update 10/2016 I had a minor issue with the bag. I contacted Teton Sports and they resolved the issue immediately. Another great reason to buy this bag. I still like this bag a LOT.

I got this bag for an October camping trip and compared it to the very similar Ledge model. I ended up picking this one because of the soft lining and poofy foot box. I've never really had a sleeping bag nor have I wanted one because of how constricting they are but I've also been frozen and unable to sleep on every camping trip until this last one. The temperature got down to the low 40s/upper 30s and I am so glad I had this bag. Granted I did layer up with socks, long johns and a hat, I stayed cozy and warm all night to the point that I woke up burning and had to shed some layers. This is unusual considering I get cold so easily, I even wear sweaters in the summer. I'm petite, about 5'3" and I felt like the bag was fairly tight but it didn't bother me so much as warmth was more important. I'm a side sleeper too but I was perfectly comfortable rolling on my side with the bag rolling with me. My much taller boyfriend also got this bag and he was comfortable and warm as well. There are a few downsides to this bag which other reviewers have mentioned but for the price I can live with it. First, it's bulky, something to be expected of a winter sleeping bag with fiberfill. Now it wouldn't seem so bulky if I could have had an easier time stuffing it into the compression sack but the sack is pretty useless once you take the bag out for the first time. I had to cram the sleeping bag with my foot to get it to fit back in and after about 15 minutes of struggling I gave up. The compression straps honestly don't compress much either. I knew this would probably be an issue before I bought the bag so at some point I will probably just get a legit compression sack that works better. Last thing is that the zipper snags easily. It's not a particularly highly quality zipper and the thick piping next to it that helps insulate the bag constantly gets in the way of zipping the bag. I also had a feeling it would be a problem but I remind myself how much I paid for the bag and am glad it does what it's supposed to - keep me warm. So if you're not interested in spending $300+ on a bag, this bag is a really decent affordable option.

A fair bit of research led me to this sleeping bag. I own quite a few, but wanted something that was light enough to backpack with, packable, comfortable, and under $100. I have been putting together an alternate set of backpacking gear with more of an emphasis on value. The goal being a multi-purpose set of gear that I can loan out to friends on my never ending quest to grow the backpacking community and get more people in the woods and on the mountain. After having used it several times I have not been disappointed. The true test will come when we move into the colder months, as I have only had this bag down to the high 20s, at which point I had to actually open it up a bit because it was so warm, so I expect it to fare well in considerably colder temperatures. This bag is wider than many other lightweight sleeping bags, making for a comfortable fit. It also has a convenient Velcro cover for the top of the zipper which keeps it from abrading against you, and provides some protection against zipper creep. It is worth noting that it can be difficult to fully zip up, and may require a bit of repositioning to get enough slack in the liner to allow it to fully zip. It does get caught on itself a bit as the zipper makes its way up, but not so bad that it becomes frustrating. Slowing down a bit takes care of this problem. The fleece lining does a good job in the comfort department, but will hold some odour and moisture. As with any sleeping bag, especially on colder trips, it is imperative to dry your feet completely before slipping into your sleeping bag. The compression sack that it comes with seals with a drawstring and then offers 6 points of compression tensioning. When taking the time to evenly compress this, it becomes small enough to fit in the sleeping back compartment of every pack that I own. Some more expensive bags do get considerably smaller, and if that is important the Teton LEEF is a great option, offering a bag that is slightly lighter, compresses smaller, and provides an additional 5 degrees of insulation with a safety rating of 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The LEEF offers this for a few dollars more (at the time of posting), and I plan on purchasing that next if the Tracker holds up to the precedent it has set thus far. All told, this bag offers value that NOTHING in this price range can come close to with such a low temperature rating. I have no complaints and look forward to using this bag through the winter. I will update my review in spring to reflect its performance when put to the test and pushed to the limits of its comfort and safety rating. Teton has a great reputation, and offer a great value on every product I have owned from them. I look forward to reviewing more of them in the future

I purchased this bag a little over a year ago. I am 6ft 1in and 180lbs and I have some room to spare in this bag. I have been on several multiday and 2- week long trips with this bag and have been happy with it. Its light weight, easy to stuff, and packs small. Most of the nights have been 55 degrees or below, with the coldest being 28 degrees. I am a hot sleeper and can easily wear shorts with a light pair of socks in this bag down to 40 degrees. I can wear a light long underwear shirt, shorts, and medium weight socks down to 34. Anything colder and I am wearing light weight long underwear and wool socks. During the couple nights of sleeping below 30 degrees in the bag I was perfectly comfortable until just before sunrise when it was at its coldest. My feet became chilly. I added a light pair of light socks under the wool socks and was warm again. There have been 2 nights that the temps were around 60-65 degrees. I was warm enough with the bottom zipper 2/3 the way open to be hot. Ended up using it as a blanket. The bag stays close to your body throughout the night and can take some getting used to if you are used to sleeping in a standard mummy bag. Once you have slept in it a night or two you really start to understand why they made the interior of the bag out of the soft material. The bag is super quiet to sleep in which is good for the light sleep who moves around at night. I sleep on my right side, on my back, and on my left side. When I am on my sides I keep my legs pretty bent. When I move between the positions throughout the night the bag stays with you and you never seem to spin inside the bag. I just finished washing it, following the tags hand washing instructions, and it looks like it did when I received it. I haven't had any issues with any of the stitching or the insulation losing loft. The only downside with this bag is for people with broad shoulders, like I have, it can be difficult to zip around the shoulder area once inside the bag. I can do it easily now after plenty of practice. Of course this is also a positive because the closer the bag is to you the warmer you are. I am looking to buy there 5 degree bag for some climbing trips in colder weather and cant wait to try it out.

This is more of an unboxing review, and also it is more of a 3.5 star review. Just got this from UPS, opened it up, and got it out of the stuff sack. I hope I am able to stuff it back in because it was a tight fit. I bought this for the purpose of backpacking. It will never see use other than that as I have a nice, large, roomy sleeping bag when space isn't as much of an issue. With that being said, this bag can pack down small and is light weight. They do this by not making the bag much larger than is needed to fit a human inside. I am about 6 foot tall, and weight about 235 pounds and built like a hockey player. I am pretty much a brick... Size 13+ shoes, wide hips and shoulders. I stated all of that to help describe the fitment. It fits like a human condom on me... Normally I sleep pretty spread out with my arms and legs going all over the place. I won't have the space to do it in this bag. It is just wide enough to have my feet apart about four to six inches. It is pretty snug at my shoulders, and enough room in the hip area to wiggle back and forth a bit. So, small fitting aside, the bag is warm. Damn warm. It was low 60's in my living room when I crawled into it, and it took maybe three minutes before I was toasty warm, almost to the point of sweating feet. The insulation they use seems like it will get the job done very well considering there really isn't much around compared to the larger lightweight bags on the market. Another selling point for me was the price. Not many bags are out in the market for under $60 with the build quality of this one. After seeing the fancy high dollar bags that go for $200+, the only thing they would have is more space inside the bag. Pretty sure I will be happy with this sleeping bag out in the field. I also have a Teton sports back pack, as well as my son's sleeping bag. They make a quality product and even offer a lifetime warranty. ******update***** So I took the bag out for a hunting/camping trip to the grasslands of central/eastern Washington state. The overnight temps got down pretty low, maybe high 30's as a guess on the higher side. Once I got shimmied down into the bag, I stayed warm. But when your feet are semi moist from being wet all day, and you are cold and trying to crawl into a tight fitting sleeping bag in a one man backpacking tent, it is a rough experience. If only the bag was just a pinch wider all the way down, it would be perfect. I understand with more bag = more weight and size. But it literally just needs to be maybe two inches wider all the way down to be a wayyy better bag. Once inside, you are kinda screwed if you are a rough sleeper. I roll around, toss and turn, and that is hard to do in a small fitting sleeping bag. I will keep it, and hand it down to my youngest son for when we start camping and I will try to find another bag for myself. I had to drop it from a 4 star (really 3.5) at unboxing to a solid 3. It is a great bag, with great materials and construction, just super small.

This is a very nice sleeping bag that is comfortable, lightweight, and very portable for backpacking. While it's not the thinnest or lightest, it is a great value and a very high quality product. I bought two of these - one for me, one for my wife - and we have used them in both car camping with my child and also back country backpacking. This bag works great and I am very happy with this purchase. Here are my thoughts: 1. The 20 degree rating is a survival rating. For comfort, add about 20 degrees - call it a 40 degree bag. If it's going to be warmer than that, you can leave the bag partially unzipped. If it's colder, you will need a base layer to help you preserve your body heat. 2. This bag works fine for me as far as size - I'm about six feet and average build. There's plenty of room for my feet (which stay good and warm by the way) as well as tucking in your head if I choose to. I normally leave my head out and just wear a cap if it gets too cold. 3. The bag is very durable. We have used our bags numerous times and there have been no problems with the zippers or the construction. 4. There's no need for a compression sack - this compresses pretty small as is. Again, we love these. It's not the lightest, the most insulated, or the biggest brand name, but it is very good and durable for the price. I highly recommend this to my fellow backpackers without hesitation.

I love this sleeping bag! I run very cold and have never been comfortable camping. This weekend, I camped in pouring rain and a huge windstorm and was so cozy and warm the entire time. The fabric is so soft. It's a little large and took up a lot of space in my backpack, but worth it if you love camping and hate being cold.

I camped on Dartmoor at -3 and was very cold. This bag is more suited to about 0 degrees I would think.

This is a fantastic sleeping bag for the money. It is not considered light weight for some long distant hikers but, I do motorcycle camping and its light enough and small enough for that. I do mainly spring summer fall camping and this bag keeps me warm. I did a fall camping trip in Canada's Coastal mountains at 7000 ft elevation and i was a little cool (- 4C), nothing that flannel pants and a shirt didn't solve. Its very well made and I found they made the bag a little larger than your traditional mummy bag. As a 6' 3" 250 lb man the bag was comfortable to sleep in. Teton also made a larger than normal foot box so there is some movement for your feet, which i appreciate. The colour is a nice red and grey. The material used inside the bag is very comfortable and warm. The fabric on the outside appears to be very durable. The zippers work great. As with any bag I recommend a self inflating sleeping matt for warmth and comfort from the rocks, sticks etc. I highly recommend this sleeping bag for people that don't want to spend a fortune and get value instead. It is exceptionally well made. As with any sleeping bag be sure to store it out of its storage bag and hang it up or lay it on a spare room bed to retain its loft until your next camping trip, the bag will last for years. I don't regret buying it. Value in this case does not mean compromise. I have had this sleeping bag for years and its still the one I use. I would not hesitate to buy again. Teton makes great products.

tuve oportunidad de usarlo en condiciones desde los 0°C hasta los -9°C con mucho viento y lo único que puedo decir es que cumple su función perfectamente, no creo que acampar en alguna montaña mexicana suponga algún problema, únicamente durmiendo con traje térmico(ropa interior) y el sleeping la pasas bien, muy calentito, e dormido el albergues del pico de orizaba, y en tiendas de campaña sin problemas, en el iztaccihualt dormi en albergues y en la cima y sin ningún problema el interior es de microfibra y la sensación al tacto es muy suave y calientita, me agrada un buen. cabe perfectamente en el compartimiento de 10L que suelen tener todas las mochilas para que metas el sleeping, la bolsa de compresión quizá no es la mejor pero cumple su cometido, igual el almacenamiento fuera de su bolsa es buena por que tiene 2 arillos por la zona de los pies para que lo puedas colgar en la pared y mantenerlo en optimas condiciones hay que recordar que los sleepings de preferencia jamas tienen que ser lavados para que se mantengan igual de calentitos, así que cada que vallas a la montaña hay que sacarlo y ponerlo a orear un poco la tela exterior es ripstop que se siente un poco delgado pero con la seguridad de que es riptop impermeable, en la montaña si e llegado a sentir el exterior del sleeping húmedo pero el interior super seco, transpira muy bien el sleeping. el único detalle que podría encontrarle es que si estas pensando tener un solo sleeping para todo, este no lo es, este solo te servirá en climas muy fríos, si estas arriba de 2°C vas a sentir mucho calor :s en las noches si no hace mucho frió suelo quitarme el gorro y se termina enfriando mi cabeza, así que hay que tener cuidado si hacemos esa movida para refrescarnos un poco.

Absolutely amazing sleeping bag. I spent around 5 months looking for the perfect sleeping bag that balanced price, temperature, weight, and pack size. This was the one I chose, and I’m so happy that I did. I’m 5’ 3” and over 200 pounds, so I’m hardly a delicate flower. I was a bit worried about how tight the bag would be, but I was pleasantly surprised by just how roomy it was. I have plenty of room to move inside for a mummy bag. The bag at first felt a little thin to the touch, but I guess I’m just used to old sleeping bags because it’s ridiculously warm for it’s thickness. I also really love the padded hood and draw string. I was looking at far more expensive ones at Cabelas and they weren’t half as nice as the one I got. I’d buy it again in an instant. The zippered pocket for your cell or camera is a nice touch too. Update: having used it between 10-15 Celsius, I was surprised to find that I woke up cold at one point. Granted, I’m a VERY cold sleeper, but still. I still 100% love the bag and will use it for summer as it clearly won’t be too warm for me in the 20’s, but if you are a cold sleeper, it may be something to think about.
