Bob Books - Sight Words Kindergarten Box Set of 10 Paperbacks | Decodable Phonics Books, Ages 4 and up, Kindergarten, Flashcards (Stage 2: Emerging Reader)

I got all of the sets for my daughter who was behind in reading and still in. She works on these books daily and loves them. She even comes home asking for them. They are simple and easy to follow along. The pictures are not super colorful which helps the reader not be distracted. They are easy to travel with or just a quick read while cooking dinner. As a teacher myself I recommend these to all my students.

I got turned onto the Bob Books when a friend brought over the first set of Bob Books for my then 4yo son. They are so visually simple, but he really learned a lot from them. So, I just bought him the Sight Words set as the next step. I really love the fact that they included flash cards. As a general rule, I usually hate the idea of flash cards because I don't like forcing a young child to learn through rote memorization. But I ended up using the flash cards as a game. My son and I compete to tap the card first when he reads one of the new words for each book he reads. He has a blast and he's learning the words quickly. I'm sure there are other better ways to use the flashcards, but this is what seems to appeal to him. We also just read the books on their own. Again, the pictures are simple, but I like that - they are not overly distracting, which allows him to just catch the gist of what's going on, without giving it all away, and thus he can focus on the words. Sentences are short, but actually can have a number of complex words to challenge them, as well.

Very pleased with these books! My little is able to sit down and read the books completely on his own and has gained so much confidence!

I went back and forth on which decoding books to get. I finally went with the BOB books and I do not regret it!! My 6 year old loves them and they have helped with his confidence. My 3.5 year old wants to learn to read now and will “read” the books by telling the simple story and feels confident about himself as well. I will be ordering more once we are done with this set

During our reading time, I had a hard time to get my son's attention on the words of books. Most of the time he only liked to focus on the colorful pictures and scanned quickly at the word lines. So it's difficult to teach him reading and remember even the simple words. I gave Bob books a try and so glad that I picked it, since now the little boy has really focused on the words and learned them quickly, yay! The simple drawing of the books are intentional to withdraw the little ones' attention from the animated pictures, that's the main point. The only thing need to be improved is the connection between the word and the pictures. Sometimes my son can guess it based on the pictures like dog, cat, bird, bug without really learning the words. But it's helpful and effective to learn sigh words. I would strongly recommend these books for the very beginning reader to build up their confidence in reading.

These books are amazing and have helped my 6yr old become a better reader. she reads them almost everyday. They are easy and short so she doesnt get discouraged. This is our second set of these books

We really appreciate the BOB books in our home. Books that my daughter, nearly 6, can read without getting too stumped or frustrated. They're probably a tad bit too easy for her, but the repetition is what counts for me and she can and will pick up these books on her own to just read. We also have level 1 books. We'll probably get most of the sets because we use them that much. I just haven't found other sets of books that are this read-able for her. What I do not like about them are the ugly and creepy drawings. They really bother me, to an irrational point, I know. My husband is indifferent about the issue. I know something is better than nothing, but I wish I could find more quality design/drawings in books that we use this often. Overall, we really are grateful to have these books and recommend them to anyone. If I could find its literary equivalent with nicer illustrations, I would switch in a second.

My son just finished a Young 5's program and is out of school for the summer. He was beginning to learn sight words and I was told he was a Level A reader. It wasn't until summer vacation actually started that I realized I didn't really understand what that meant. I thought it would be simple to go to the store and pick up some books for him to keep up with his newly acquired skills during summer break. I had tried purchasing other learning-to-read style books and they were too advanced for him despite it being the "earliest" stage. Insert BOB Books. My son can actually somewhat read these books and is learning fast from them. The back of the books in this set actually say they are Level B and C books but these are perfect for him to build on his vocabulary. I especially love this set because it comes with flash cards of sight words found in the stories. On the opposite side of each flash card has a picture and sentence that coordinates to the picture, using the sight word. It comes with 10 books and each book introduces 3 new sight words. The sentence structures are perfect, using a lot of the same words frequently in the same book, but in different orders so they aren't reading the same sentence over and over. They are seeing the same words in different orders of the sentence, creating familiarity and confidence, along with other commonly seen words. This is our first BOB Books purchase and I will definitely be getting more, although I wish they all came with flash cards (not all sets do).

Great resource for beginning readers

Very simple and easy to decode for first-time readers. If you’re looking for extremely short stories with very uncomplicated illustrations (on the verge of too simple) these would be great for most all beginners ages 4 and up. Sometimes a bit more color would be nice, especially when descriptive words like ‘red’, isn’t shown. But they’re a set nearly every parent or educator should acquire.

First, I didn't realize their was an order to the different sets. So I bought the Sight words as my first set for my 4 year old daughter. She is just now learning to read in school and she absolutely loves these books. Being able to read a while book by herself makes her proud. And I love finally having bed time stories read to me 😋 Each book is simple with few words and pictures. As you progress through the system and your child becomes better at reading it gets more complex. It comes with flash cards which my daughter and I are able to play various games with. This was the first set I bought and I'm definitely looking forward to getting the next set

5 year old son still working on these! We try to do a one every few days and then repeat as necessary. Son wasn't very interested in reading before this Pros: Immediate tangible reading progress in child, nice illustrations and characters Cons: A little pricey

Bob books are The best kind - for beginners. Easy and catchy enough to keep interest and yet challenging with new words.
