Outstanding Design, Quality, Value, and Customer Regard
First of all, I can state that Vaun Duffy Products is a company with truly World Class regard for product design, quality and customer satisfaction. I recently purchase a Large Soft Touch Collar, and a Soft Touch Heavy Duty Braided Leash. I think the collar and leash are the best value you will find on any similar product. For dogs who appreciated comfort, and owners who appreciate comfort, good design, and quality with a touch of style, at a reasonable cost, this is the choice. Now, I'll explain in detail why I made those statement; because, I'm a retired Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering, Manager from the defense industry who likes to tell stories. I recently adopted a 15 month old Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog (I know, I never heard of one either). This dog is a very affectionate, self-minded, "people" dog, who likes to sleep a lot, with major energy bursts in between. He is a water dog who likes to run off the end of the dock into the lake, swim back to the beach, jump up and down looking for admirers; and then, charge off to do it again, over and over. He always attracts people wanting to pet him. When this dog gives you a handshake, or a "love pat" to the arm, leg, or chest you know instantly why they're called a Leopard Dog. I really regret that someone previously taught him to "sit and shake". I wish they had stopped at "sit". I typically walk/train him on a choker collar. He absolutely refuses to move and inch from the back door on the heavy duty run I made him because the heavy duty clip and cable leash pull on the choker. I got him a 1" x 22" leather collar of cheaper quality; because, I wanted to reward him to swim without a chocker, and make the run more comfortable. The cheaper 22" collar was somewhat loose at it's tighest notch, but no other heavy leather product at either the local national pet chain, or local pet boutique came close to fitting him. He immediately tried to get the collar off, and tried to chew the loose end that was left after adjusting to the tightest notch. After his first swim in the pet boutique collar, I left him on the run, on the deck to dry. I came back 15 minutes later; and, he had almost stretched that collar to where he could get loose. The 1" x 22" collar is now 7/8" x 24". The 24" Soft Touch Collar fits perfectly at the tightest notch, leaving room for growth (hope not). It has an inner layer of soft quality leather which is 1 1/2" when flat, continuously stitched with higher quality cord to a 1 3/8" wide, thicker outer layer of quality leather. Delta has made no attempts to remove this collar. The stitching is only interupted where the leash eyelet is attached at the top of the collar. The boutique collar has a rolled pattern on it's edges which looks like stitching. The Soft Touch Collar buckle is secured by double stitching of the folded thick leather. The stitching actually includes 2 loops of cord around the outside of the leather. The boutique buckle is retained by 2 rivets, immediated followed by the leash eyelet and single stitching of the folded leather. The Soft Touch Collar has two leather loops to retain any extra belt, so there is no temptation to chew on whatever hangs out after the buckle. The separate tag eyelet, adjacent to the buckle, is also a big plus because Delta's name tag is prominent, and easily readable to his admirers, while I hold the leash in an attempt to keep him from delivering a "love pat". As for the Soft Touch Leash, it is of the same high quality leather. The people end has the soft inner layer of leather that is stitched all the way into the braid. Both ends are braided, which not only looks good, but provides shock absorption to increase the overall strength of the leash. The design of the braid at the dog end even appears that it would increase the leash's tensile strength. Having designed a run for him in which I wanted no component rated at a load lower than 400 pounds, I know how hard it is to find a leash clip rated at anything higher than 90 pounds. I don't know the load rating of this solid brass clip; but, it appears to be at least as strong as the 210 pound rated plated steel clip I found. Now the topper. I recieved the leash less than 48 hours after ordering it. I put them on the dog, and went for a walk. The dog, and I, were comfortable with the set up. I put the dog in the back of the car, did not take the leash off, and went to change my shirt. In the minute, or two, I was gone, he had chewed through the leash just above the braid. I was not happy with Delta. I decided to write Vaun Duffy Products, with a picture, to explain what had happened. As I stated to them, it was clearly not their fault; but, I like the leash, even if Delta doesn't, and I asked if I could get a discount on a replacement. Gary, from Vaun Duffy, responded within 30 minutes of my e-mail, and shipped me a free replacement. Given my work experience I believe I know World Class values when I see them. I don't know if Gary is the owner, or an employee; but, he's a class act with a class product.

First-class product with first-class customer service
2024 UPDATE: Love this collar. I am buying my second leather collar for the same dog. This collar is tough. Folks, it has gone through salt water, chlorine, river, lake, creek, swamp, meadow, beach, mud, mountains, etc. The leather is still good, and the brass looks great. My 70 lb. dog grew into a 90 lb. dog. He still wears the size large, although on the last hole now. The collar is thick and tough enough to grab when you need to restrain your dog. I am replacing the collar for two reasons. First, the D ring finally fell off after six years -- but this is a hard playing dog in a variety of environments, so no complaints because the rest of the collar is great and still functioning. Second, I have washed the collar again and again over the years, and it always comes clean. This time, however, it still smells like dog. At $25 and six years, I definitely got my money's worth, so I am buying another. I will keep the old one on hand as a back up -- maybe save for the beach. Buy this beautiful collar for its durability, its comfort (for your dog), its ability to handle your dog's weight and rough play, and its attractiveness. You cannot go wrong. ORIGINAL JAN. 2018 REVIEW: This is a sturdy, made-to-last leather collar with beautiful stitching and brass hardware. My dog has been wearing it for more than two years, and it still looks great with all stitches intact. It cleans beautifully. If it was a little stiff at first, it is nice and supple now. This type of collar is GREAT for a large breed dog. Not only does it serve as a collar, but I also grasp it to restrain him from jumping all over the delivery man (to give kisses, of course). It has been quite comfortable on my golden retriever (first as a puppy and then as an adult), who doesn't scratch at it as he did with his earlier nylon collar. I love the Soft Touch Collar's large D ring, since it's often a challenge to hook the leash on a lively, furry neck when there's an itty bitty D ring. The additional small ring for the dog tags is quite handy. When I bought the collar, my puppy was 5 months and 47.8 pounds. I thought I measured correctly but he must have been just very furry that day. The large collar was too big (although he grew into it, to be sure), so the medium was just perfect on a puppy of that size. Now that my dog is 71 pounds, the large is perfect. Vaun Duffy Products was extremely responsive and helpful in making sure that my puppy had the perfect fit, and for that, they have my loyalty. Five stars for product and five stars for customer service! I recommend this collar highly.

There is no substitute for a real leather dog collar!
Leather. There is no substitute. This is a fine collar for a big dog. There is just no substitute for real leather. For thousands of years, leather has been one of the most reliable materials available to man. Leather is still a good choice for many applications today. Saddle stirrups, an arguably importance piece of riding equipment in terms of safety, has been made of this material for thousands of years and riders have staked their lives on its reliability. A good quality leather that is properly sized for its application is very reliable and unlikely to fail the user. In my opinion, it is the perfect material for a dog collar. I have a large dog that loves to pull on the leash. His old collar is over two years old and it is still in good shape even though he gets bathed every week. The collar has lost its brown color and faded. I decided to replace it with a padded collar and decided on this one, the subject of this review. This is a wide collar at almost two inches in width. The wider it is, the more comfortable for the dog. Pressure is distributed over a wider area. Of course, that also means he will experience less discomfort when pulling against the leash and may not discourage him from this annoying habit, but that is another topic for discussion. My dogs spends comparatively little time on the leash and a lot of time just wearing the collar around the house. His comfort is my main priority. I can also use an e-collar to discourage him from pulling against his leash. He is a big dog and there is enough room on his neck for this collar and an e-collar to be used simultaneously. I live in an area that have strict leash laws. Even though the e-collar controls the dog better than a regular leash, I have to follow the rules and use the leash. The quality of craftsmanship is very good on this item. I was surprised to find it for this price. The leather is full grain. The padding on the inside is soft to the touch. I have no doubt that the leather will soften in time. It is stiff right now because it is new. The hardware is brass. So you will not have to worry about rust. The leash attaches to the D-ring in the back. There is a very small D-ring near the buckle for ID tags. Do not underestimate this feature. Having two separate D-rings on opposite sides of the collar is important. One for the ID tag and another to attach the leash to. You do not want the ID tags and the leash to clip on to the same D-ring on the collar. One day, you will make a mistake (easy to do early in the morning before coffee) and clip the leash to the split ring of the ID tag. One strong pull and the split ring will open and your dog will have his freedom. You also do not want to keep turning the collar around just to attach the D-ring. That irritates the dog's neck. So the bottom line here is to pick a collar with two D-rings. If I have to nitpick, I would have made the small D-ring on the bottom, the one near the buckle, a little bit bigger. I like having enough room to attach two separate ID tags (In case one falls off), a Homeagain (a pet locator service) tag, and vaccination tags. I expect this collar to last a very long time. The craftsmanship is superb and likely superior to the designer belt that you have holding up your slacks. This is an honest-to-goodness full grain leather material. Highly recommended.

He likes it!
So far I am quite happy with this collar. It doesn’t have any weird things poking my dog on the inside of the collar. The leather is nice and soft and the inside is padded. I shopped for the right collar for a while and finally found this one. Dog is 90lbs and I bought size large.

Excellent, high-quality collar
I purchased two of these collars, size medium, black with tan interior for my two dogs. These are well-designed, very high-quality collars that are true-to-size and look great, too. I've purchased two or three other leather collars for our new rescue puppy and they were of very poor quality. They didn't have the additional loop for any extra end length, which left it hanging and encouraged Faolán to chew on it. They also stretched easily, which posed a danger of him slipping out of the collar. Since these collars are double layered they do not stretch at all. The stitching is strong and even, the buckle is secure and the small loop next to the buckle for ID and rabies tags is perfect. Having an additional loop at the top of the dog's neck makes putting on the leash quick and easy. You can trust the size chart for these collars. Faolán, who is 9-months-old, wears his at the third hole from the end, which leaves extra length that needs to be slipped through the additional band. This band holds the extra length securely. He also has plenty of room to grow and continue to use this collar without it being excessive or bulky. Our other dog, Finn, is now seven-years-old. The medium collar also fits him well. He wears his on the first hole from the end and it remains secure, whereas some collars fitted on this hole come loose easily. I expect these will be the last collars we will have to buy for our pups. They are the best-made collars I've come across, and I've had dogs for decades. The hardware is strong and secure, and the design of the entire collar is well thought out. We've only had these for about a month, but they've been worn on hikes where the dogs have gone through streams, mud, briars, etc. They've been through repeated wrestling matches in deep snow and also in the living room. They've been exposed to the other dog's nails and teeth, as well as sharp things in nature. They've gotten soaked through with either stream water or snow. As I look at them now they appear brand new. There's not a scratch or tooth mark on them, nor is there any water damage. One concern I had was that they might be too stiff, but they seem to be fine. The pups had no issue adjusting to them at all. So, not only are they of excellent quality, they are great looking and seem to be very comfortable. If you're hesitating to purchase this collar for any reason, don't. They're worth the price and I expect them to last a lifetime.

Great collar for the right dog
This was the same length as my dog's "old" collar but I did need to drill an extra hole in it so it would fit him comfortably. It can be a little tricky to get the collar off but I think it's just a matter of "breaking it in." I got the small since I figured that the medium would have been too wide on my dog's neck (30 lbs. dog, so too big for "little" dogs, but too small to be a "medium-sized" dog). Compared to the previous collar, it is a little more narrow and does look a little thin on his as a result but it's still a very handsome collar; the extra padding is probably more comfortable for him too. It would look great on a 20-25 lbs. dog. I can see the extra loop to help secure the tab maybe getting caught on some dog's hair though. I am not sure if that's been happening with mine yet but I'll try to keep an eye on it. However, the hardware looks pretty solid and it is nice to have a separate ring for tags. Pros: Solid hardwere Good construction Leather padded Extra hole(s) can be drilled in collar if need arises Loop for dog tags Cons: Leather scratches easily (I can scratch it with my fingernail, imagine what a dog's claws can do) -- mind you, it is also a COLLAR on an animal, not a glass unicorn Extra loop to secure strap may catch on medium-length fur May need extra hole(s) to be drilled; sizing tricky for large small dogs or small medium dogs Collar may need to be broken in a little to make it more flexible/pliable; can be tricky to take off dog before its broken in (may pose a problem for less tolerant pets)

Good craftsmanship at a great price.
I was in the hunt for a better collar for my 100 lbs mutt. Him and I have shared quite a lot of adventures while on the trail, across desserts, mountains, valleys, rivers and all California has to offer. I wanted a more classic looking leather collar which would look good on him and also be comfortable. The thing that surprised me the most about this collar was the quality at the cost it was being offered. I wasn't sure if it would really hold up to how good it seemed, but once I got it in the mail I was pretty pleased right away. I value good craftsmanship and I am quite willing to pay for it. But I also like a good deal. And I feel at this cost, this collar is well worth the money. The second big surprise was how comfortable the collar was for ME! When ever I've had to hang on to my pooch, either at home or on the trail, it is quite easy to get a grip on to his collar even if he pulls with force. It has a nice decent level of padding on the inside, plus the corners are rounded, so you don't fear that sharp burn from raw leather friction against your hand. This wasn't something I considered, but I very much appreciate it now that I have it. The only concern I would have is durability. I've had him burn through collar on a yearly basics since he spend so much time outdoor. But, if it last me anywhere close to a year, it would have performed as long as much more expensive collars I've bough before. Even for this reason, I am still giving this a five star review. I will be honest and say that I do question the durability of the collar, but even so, it is as expensive or even cheaper than a lot of the other collars they offer at PetSmart and it is better built than a lot of those. So I probably would just buy another one. Heck, I'm buying more for my other two dogs!

Appears to be great item!
Received this collar today, so far it looks to be of very nice quality. I got the tan/coral in large for a 72lb Rottweiler/Basset Hound mix. His neck measured at 20 1/2, and, after reading the reviews that this does run large, I am glad I went with the large size, as I was able to get this around his neck 3 notches from the end and with 2 fingers of wiggle space. Buckle seems to be secure and I really like that the design for the id tag and leash ring. Pup seems to be comfortable, and he looks very handsome in it. I’d love to be able to post a photo, but he’s camera shy.

Slightly disappointed
The blue leather is cracking however the inside is where the quality of this product lies. It is still brand new and super soft. My black labrador looks super classy with his blue collar & I love it for that.

Great durable leather collar!
Great quality leather collar. I have a strong boxer who needs a heavy duty collar that won’t break during walks. This fits the bill! It’s a very nice brown leather collar with gold buckle and the padded inside doesn’t rub on my dog’s sensitive skin.
