How do you turn on the red light? the graphic instructions simply "say" to push the button. when i do that all i get are the 3 levels of white.

To be honest, it took me a while to get the hang of turning the red light on and off. Once I managed to turn it on I couldn't get it turned off, and vice versa. Its one of those things I've learned to do, but can't quite explain how I do it. I guess pushing and holding the button is the 'secret'.

How do you know when the rechargeable battery is full?

There's an indicator light on the battery pack that changes from red to green during recharge. If the battery is low while in use, the headlamp will blink (and you won't be able to use the highest setting without it shutting down).
